Hi, please take into account that Jimmy's voice has developed beautifully over the last 20ish years. In his younger, Cold Chisel days, when they had finally hit success after years of pub gigs, Jimmy was an alcoholic and drinking on stage and yeah, his voice did come across as screamy in some songs, so I think this is where some of your commenters are referencing from. They have not listened to older, more bluesy, more voice controlled Jimmy, who is a long time sober and beautiful family man. He has written a book about his life which I have not yet read. He grew up here in Adelaide, in a tough, low income area called Elizabeth. Hope this helps understand the screamy comments... Hugs!! Oh, and keep in mind he is 65! He started performing in 1973.
@@chisel83 Hey! Great name! I didn't mean to come across as critical. I love Jimmy's voice, actually appreciating it even more since watching some of these reaction vids. I guess I was trying to give a condensed reason as to why some people use the screaming term, as he mentions it every time he reacts to a Jimmy song. Cheers!
Jimmy's voice is home to me, if I hear him when I'm over seas I get a bit teary. It hits you right on the chest and covers your body in goose bumps, it's beautiful.
I was so lucky to grow up in an era where I could see these guys on Friday night, INXS on sat night, midnight oil the next weekend followed by the angels, hoodoo gurus, dragon, mentals, hunters and collectors and on it goes. You should also check out Jimmy Barnes brother John swan who performed as Swanee
His daughter Mahalia is literally the female version of Jimmy. She is the most underrated female Australian singer behind the Bull sisters, Linda and Vika.
I've argued this man is not screaming all my life. He is a legend vocalist and always was. A funny thing I noticed over the years was some of them people calling him a screamer would listen to Tina Turnner and injoy it lol. Yet another amazing vocalist. Long live Jimmy
Ian Moss on guitar is a great in his own way, guitar and vocals. He sings lead on part or all on quite a lot of Chisel stuff. The whole Cold Chisel band is great. Every member of the band wrote a song that was a hit record at least in Australia. The US record companies couldn’t do anything with Cold Chisel. Amazing hey?
The US Promoter asked them if they wanted a convertible Cadillac to cruise around in, them asked if they needed any coke or other substances, they said maybe later, what gigs and radio interviews have you got lined up? Promoter only had a small community country and western station booked out in the back blocks who weren't interested in rocking blues. So they basically packed up and came home. I see that trip as a wasted opportunity where they could have done a road trip and played a few dive bars, they did learn their learn their craft in the wild bars of Oz, and I reckon quite a few people would have spread the word pretty quickly over there.
@@stevegraham3817 I think the most highlighted Chisel song with Mossy singing would be “Georgia”. There must be live versions of that floating around YT

Ian Moss is the first one to sing and was singing on a lot of Chisel songs my favourite of which is Bow River. Also had a solo career and is probably most well known for his song Tuckers Daughter
My cousin met Diesel when he was at the height of popularity in Australia when she was a receptionist at his record company around 30 years ago. She told me he was so humble and nice!
Ian Moss definitely flew under the radar, well, globally anyway. When Chisel folded he packed his bags for Europe, brought his backpack and an acoustic and busked around Europe. He was spotted by Aussies busking in Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen and Brussels. Amazing guy.
Omg this takes me back, Ian Moss in his own right is an extraordinary artist, thank you bro you are awesome, your understanding of music and voices has even opened my eyes and I thank you sir, and don’t think for a second I don’t see those tears well up in those eyes sometimes when you hear a voice like that, as I do
I grew up listening to these guys. Watched them more than once in venues with less than 500 people. Aussies grew up with this like we grew up with vegemite. It blows my mind that the rest of the world are only just catching on.
I'm really enjoying your reactions to all of the Aussie artists but especially John and Jimmy. I'm British and live in the uk and I've been a massive fan of both of them since the 1980s and 90s, and it's so good that you can also see what me and everybody else has seen in both of them for decades

A few years ago I saw an interview with a very posh upper class English vocal coach with a 40 year career. She said that Jimmy Barnes was "THE BEST" vocalist of all time. She referred to his ability to control "scream sounding" singing. She stated categorically that it wasn't screaming. It was perfect control. 🥰
@@ThatSingerReactions it's funny you mention gospel, because this song in particular IS Aussie gospel, at Chisel concerts it is honestly like being taken to a spiritual place, everyone is always crying. And when in pubs and everyone has had a drink, we will all hug strangers and shed a tear too.....it's such a special song. Cold Chisel in general has that effect on Australians. LOVVVEEE watching you discover them and Barnsey! he is our national love and got me through hard times xx

You are spot on. I've been lucky to see and hear him live twice, once as a soloist and once with cold chisel. Absolutely blew me away. Jimmy constantly walks around the stage dropping in harmonies to whoever is singing, that sound angelic. Then punch you in the face with his rock voice. It physically pushes you back. The other singer in this song playing guitar is Ian moss. If you want to listen to another of theirs together, track down Bow River. Jimmy's is the highest most powerful controlled voice I've ever heard. His older brother has an amazing similar vocal range power and tone. Amazing genes in that Scottish family. Check out Lady What's Your Name with a band called Hindley Street Country Club, that's jimmy's older brother John Swan. By the end there'll be no doubt of their family blood lines. There's an odd recording of them singing together. But thanks for taking the time to listen to these and your reaction was exactly the same as ours the first time we ever heard them.
I won a radio competition and not only got two free tickets to an Ian Moss concert, but also got to sit in for his rehearsal before the concert, just my sister and I there! Later we got to meet him and took a selfie together. Lovely man, so friendly and gracious. Wonderful memory.
I want to say thank you to you Nick! You have helped me appreciate Jimmy's voice in a whole new way! My parents listened to Cold Chisel before I discovered them in my late teens after growing up with Jimmy's solo career. Your appreciation for him is so respected by us Aussies!
Ian Moss and Jimmy compliment each others voices so much. It's almost yin to yang. For that song to sound so aesthetically pleasing it's Mossy's low, to Jimmy's harmonies that make that song truly hauntingly beautiful. Let's also give credit to Don Walker, an absolute guru and storyteller. No one writes lyrics like him. He had the ability to truly encapsulate Australian history. I can't believe I live in the same timeline as Cold Chisel.
Every year Jimmy Barnes, and other awesome kiwi and aussie bands play at our local pub at Waihi Beach in New Zealand xmas and New years eve. I could still be at home getting ready, and in the distance you could hear this voice, very distinctive voice, was Jimmy Barnes, honestly he doesn't even need a mike. I lived a good 1.5km away from the pub, you can hear the power of his voice. We have a lot of talent here. Love that you recognize our talent.

info for you: Cold Chisel's origins stem back to Adelaide in 1973, originally named Orange, the band started out as a heavy metal cover band consisting of bassist Les Kaczmarek, keyboardist Don Walker, guitarist Ian Moss and drummer Steve Prestwich. Jimmy Barnes was 16 when he joined the group Cold Chisel soon after the original members and Jimmy became their lead singer. Cold Chisel are an Australian pub rock band, which formed in Adelaide in 1973 by mainstay members Ian Moss on guitar and vocals, Steve Prestwich on drums and Don Walker on piano and keyboards. They were soon joined by Jimmy Barnes on lead vocals and, in 1975, Phil Small became their bass guitarist. The group disbanded in late 1983 but subsequently reformed several times. Musicologist Ian McFarlane wrote that they became "one of Australia's best-loved groups" as well as "one of the best live bands", fusing "a combination of rockabilly, hard rock and rough-house soul'n'blues that was defiantly Australian in outlook." Eight of their studio albums have reached the Australian top five, Breakfast at Sweethearts (February 1979), East (June 1980), Circus Animals (March 1982, No. 1), Twentieth Century (April 1984, No. 1), The Last Wave of Summer (October 1998, No. 1), No Plans (April 2012), The Perfect Crime (October 2015) and Blood Moon (December 2019, No. 1). Their top 10 singles are "Forever Now" (1982), "Hands Out of My Pocket" (1994) and "The Things I Love in You" (1998). At the ARIA Music Awards of 1993 they were inducted into the Hall of Fame. In 2001 Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA), listed their single, "Khe Sanh" (May 1978), at No. 8 of the all-time best Australian songs. Circus Animals was listed at No. 4 in the book, 100 Best Australian Albums (October 2010), while East appeared at No. 53. They won The Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music at the APRA Music Awards of 2016. Cold Chisel's popularity is largely restricted to Australia and New Zealand, with their songs and musicianship highlighting working class life. Their early bass guitarist (1973-75), Les Kaczmarek, died in December 2008; Steve Prestwich died of a brain tumour in January 2011. Place Musical Career Began: Adelaide Musical Genres: Rock music Record Labels: Warner Music Group James (Jimmy) Dixon Barnes of Glasgow via Adelaide was just 16 when he joined the band Cold Chisel in 1973. The combination of 14 Australian Top 40 albums for Cold Chisel and 13 charting solo albums, including 17 No. 1s, gives Jimmy Barnes the highest number of hit albums of any Australian or international artist in the Australian market.
THe meme introduced me to this dude Jimmy Barnes, and I was not expecting that voice lmao. Just astounding man. That kind of power, grit, raspiness, and tone. Just amazing.

Ian Moss could sing for Australia, and then he plays guitar like a cross of Hendrix, Beck and Wes.. That original Circus Animals arrangement is still the best. I love how when they play it now, Charlie Drayton doesn't drum on it, but sits with the guys up the front with a shaker out of respect to Steve Prestwich. Steve was doing just that in the clip here RIP

Ian Moss is the first one to sing and was singing on a lot of Chisel songs my favourite of which is Bow River. Also had a solo career and is probably most well known for his song Tuckers Daughter
Great song written by the great Steve Prestwich RIP Steve
I truly love how you smile when jimmy barns is singing, and a lot of people here say he is screaming, but he is singing
I’ve seen this song live and the stadium was silent you could hear a pin drop. They NAILED it, chills chills chills. I’ll never forget it
So happy to see an American respect true Aussie icons.... Especially this American, he's great and knows what he's talking about. Respect man!
It’s fantastic that you are recognising the amazing talent we have here in Australia 🇦🇺
Loved Chisel
Omg this takes me back, Ian Moss in his own right is an extraordinary artist, thank you bro you are awesome, your understanding of music and voices has even opened my eyes and I thank you sir, and don’t think for a second I don’t see those tears well up in those eyes sometimes when you hear a voice like that, as I do
Love seeing Aussie artists getting the recognition they deserve. Jimmy's voice always gives me goosebumps.Thankyou💜💜
My dad still blames Jimmy Barnes for his hearing problems lol. All that music being blasted and loud Cold Chisel concerts in his youth 😂
Same with my mum and stepdad (my mum worked the bar at a pub down the Port back in the 70s!).. My hearing is going too.. Similar reasons lol 😆
I saw Jimmy Barnes live in a smallish venue and my ears were ringing for 3-4 days after... But what a brilliant gig!
I saw Cold Chisel last week , awesome gig, Ian Moss is a genius , he sang and played lead guitar with no break! Best Aussie band ever 🎉👏👏👏👏❤️
I grew up listening to these guys. Watched them more than once in venues with less than 500 people. Aussies grew up with this like we grew up with vegemite. It blows my mind that the rest of the world are only just catching on.
Great comments on Jimmie’s voice, man!
Mossy can sing 💯💢💥💫
Love your respect... and he is one of the greatest.. bro I'm crying here. 🥲😍
I'm really enjoying your reactions to all of the Aussie artists but especially John and Jimmy.
I'm British and live in the uk and I've been a massive fan of both of them since the 1980s and 90s, and it's so good that you can also see what me and everybody else has seen in both of them for decades
Got to see cold chisel uk tour up in Manchester 2012, and barnsey solo tour 2001 in Birmingham, lived in Australia in the early 80s, where I got to go to my first gigs, inxs, midnight oil, rose tattoo, ect..great memories, ..favourite chisel album? , East, 🇭🇲🎸
One of the greatest voices..ever!
I am always so glad when people from America are amazed with the talent that we have down under.
Let’s not forget Ian who has a very clear and strong voice, great emotive ability and diction.
Yeah he's amazing too
@@ThatSingerReactions it's funny you mention gospel, because this song in particular IS Aussie gospel, at Chisel concerts it is honestly like being taken to a spiritual place, everyone is always crying. And when in pubs and everyone has had a drink, we will all hug strangers and shed a tear too.....it's such a special song. Cold Chisel in general has that effect on Australians. LOVVVEEE watching you discover them and Barnsey! he is our national love and got me through hard times xx
@@ThatSingerReactions Ian Moss is a phenomenal singer and guitarist. Check out one of his solo hits ‘Tucker’s Daughter’. I had the privilege of seeing Cold Chisel live and Ian and Jimmy singing When the war is over literally had me in tears it was so moving.
@@ThatSingerReactions If you thought Ian Moss had a good voice in When The War is Over … do a reaction on this - th-cam.com/video/NhFXjzRRv4w/w-d-xo.html. And to think he’s also one of the very, very best guitarists Australia has ever produced too. Crazy all round talent 😍
Ian Moss is also regarded as one of the best guitarists in Australia. I think he's pretty humble about it too.
Ian Moss is a great singer with a bunch of solo stuff too! Check out Telephone Booth and Tuckers Daughter. Those would be his two biggest hits!
yep those two songs are Aussie classics
His latest album is also great
Yeah, love Tuckers Daughter
Don’t forget “Bow River”.
@@ladytyphon7261 Bow River is a great Cold Chisel song! I was just mentioning his popular solo songs
I won a radio competition and not only got two free tickets to an Ian Moss concert, but also got to sit in for his rehearsal before the concert, just my sister and I there! Later we got to meet him and took a selfie together. Lovely man, so friendly and gracious. Wonderful memory.
Ian Moss & Jimmy Barnes were meant to meet & be in Cold Chisel. Their voices compliment one another so much.
Yep, Dons solo stuff is the shit. As is the Tex and Charlie.
His powerful voice is something above all something. Awesome to listen to and grown up with this legend. Australia's 2nd national anthem is sung by Jimmy.
Im so glad i fell down the rabbit hole and found your channel! Growing up in the 80s and 90s in Australia had immense homegrown musical richness. It warms my heart to see your reactions to these iconic artists and songs. Thank you.
So happy that Diesel sent you a message 👍👍.
Love your passion and your voice is awesome too...love to hear your songs and voice in full flight 💪
Your reactions are so good...ya crack me up 😂😛
Keep em coming mate 🙏
I adore this song. It shows the poetry of music. Everybody who listens go it will have their own interpretation. ❤. Absolutley beautifil whichever way you look at it. Also ian Moss is a legend
info for you:
Cold Chisel's origins stem back to Adelaide in 1973, originally named Orange, the band started out as a heavy metal cover band consisting of bassist Les Kaczmarek, keyboardist Don Walker, guitarist Ian Moss and drummer Steve Prestwich.
Musicologist Ian McFarlane wrote that they became "one of Australia's best-loved groups" as well as "one of the best live bands", fusing "a combination of rockabilly, hard rock and rough-house soul'n'blues that was defiantly Australian in outlook."
Eight of their studio albums have reached the Australian top five, Breakfast at Sweethearts (February 1979), East (June 1980), Circus Animals (March 1982, No.

James (Jimmy) Dixon Barnes of Glasgow via Adelaide was just 16 when he joined the band Cold Chisel in 1973.
The first singer is Ian Moss, the guitarist from Cold Chisel and a music legend in his own right. This song is one of the band's best - and one of the best rock ballads of all time. You should check out the original recorded version to appreciate the full emotion of the song.
Ian Miss is just brilliant 😍
Your reaction at 10:50 is wonderful and why I love your videos. That and you're giving our Aussie stars a new platform.
For a much younger Cold Chisel, try "Cheap Wine" and "Choir Girl", different voices again. Oh, and Jimmy Barnes liked your Insta Post too xx
Choir Girl is just beautiful!!! I've got a lot of Chisel on vinyl, it sounds soooo amazing!!
@@christyzeeaquarianated2600 yep agree. I just made a post about the song and the musicality in Jimmy's voice back then.
So many of these guy's are untouchable and we just worship them, everyday one free radio.
Thank you for reviewing this! Most people don’t realize just how good Jimmy was at harmonies as well! Your reaction at 10:55 was priceless.
Hearing Jimmy brings back good memories, life was much easier back then. I always feel emotional listening to his songs now. He was great live also.
Thank you for your comment ❤️
How are you doing?
It’s nice meeting you here.
