So this the first band I ever saw in concert in Sacramento about 1981. Went into the Marines, then after ended up in Connecticut as a State Trooper a few years later. One night I stopped for a disabled vehicle on I-91 near New Haven CT. Low and behold it was Cheap Trick! Their driver ran out of gas. Lol. They were performing in CT so I gave them a ride to the hotel they were staying at in New Haven. Left to driver behind to wait for the tow truck with gas. These dudes were so freaking cool. Chatted me up and I told them how I saw them at a totally awesome show in Sacramento in 1981. At first, I had a hard time believing them when they said they were the Rock Band Cheap Trick, but I totally recognized Rick Nielson, who had walked back to the car after seeing my overhead lights. No cell phones then so they had to walk to get gas. Anyways, when I dropped them off, they asked for my card. A couple weeks later, I got a package with a autographed poster and a T-shirt. Now that was nice. Always, I like these guys since. Met a few celebrities as a Trooper. Some are cool, some are weird, and some are just plain ol normal like these dudes. Heard this song on the radio today and it remined me of this story. Not that anyone cares but it was cool at the time.

He and the band would come there to sign the students pottery and for the school to sell them to raise money for the school. I would see Rick come the movie theater with his family I worked at. They would always do a donation concert in a park in the area for the March of Dimes foundation. Good People for sure. Nelson guitar shop owned by his father was in the neighborhood too. I've seen a lot of their concerts and ever a guitar pic from Rick he would always throw out, later I gave it to my GF and she made an earring out of it. lol Fond memories. We had a Cheap Trick VS Kiss war while I was in junior high too. So fun

To say Cheap Trick was firing on all cylinders at this show is a vast understatement - one of the greatest live albums of all time. I like the girls running on the stage at :44 and being quickly removed by security. Cheap Trick puts on a show - Ironically I saw them open for Meatloaf years ago -RIP.
Hello to all my preceding generations. 25 here! Grew up listening to good music because of my late father (died at age 59 in 2020) and this type of music keeps those memories of him close!
When my wife and I were dating the first concert we went to was Cheap Trick. Bothe sets of parents said we wouldn't make it. Well, 39 years later and seven (7) Cheap Trick concerts later we're still together! Come back to Bismarck guys.

If you're wondering why Robin goes running off stage right at 0:50, he was checking to make sure that the fan that got bum rushed by security is OK, and to tell them not to throw her out of the show. These guys have always been a class act!
August 19, 1977. The day of my first rock concert in my hometown of San Diego, CA. 38 Special opened, Cheap Trick followed and then KISS headlined!!! All three bands for less than 10$. I still have my KISS tour book! What a great day to be an American teenager in the 70s. Cheap Trick came to San Diego often in the following years. I have multiple Rick Nielsen guitar picks (chewed and unchewed player picks - we jumped on the stage after a show)(one unchewed throwaway graphic picture fan pick that landed near my feet) in my collection of rock n roll memorabilia. It was always a blast to see Cheap Trick back in the day. God bless the Tricksters!!!
I saw them 3 days earlier up in San Francisco at the Cow Palace on the night Paul Stanley told all 14 thousand in attendance that Elvis Presley had passed away. What a great concert. Although CT only played for about 40 minutes their live stage show was pretty entertaining and they had a huge stage sound. Then KISS took the stage and put on a great show. The original 4 members on their 1977 Love Gun Tour is how I'll always remember them. 👍🎸
They were so popular in Japan that the press dubbed them "the American Beatles." I saw them in Philly at the old Tower Theatre. They blew the house down!
I'm a Wisconsin boy, thru and thru! The ORIGINAL singer for Cheap Trick was a dude named Zeno, well.. Robin took over, Zeno ended up singing for Milwaukee's very own; Bad Boy. Stories of Cheap Trick sneaking up here before AND after hitting big, are all over town... STILL! Met Bun E at a Milwaukee East Side pub? Just a real cool cat.

63, got to see them in Mississippi while in the Navy Seabees I believe it was 81 or 82. They were great. Boy was that long ago ,yet seems like yesterday.
Just saw them in concert, New Years Eve 2019 at Treasure Island Casino, Red Wing MN and they brought the house down!!! 40 years of Rock & Roll Domination!!! Young and old were dancing in the isles.
What makes this so fine is the start with the drums....then you have two sets of band members....one side long hair types and the other straight as nerds....this way they play off each other ....and don't forget the end...its always fun to listen to each member play and back forth....btw I remember when this came out in the late 70's...I was a college DJ!
In my album version of Live at Budokan, the lyrics on the album sleeve were badly translated into English and now I always sing: Ain't that a sham, youre the one to blam. Still one of the best live albums.
I never knew this concert came in two parts until some years ago. I had the vinyl with 10 songs on it, and then 10 years later I found a cd with the other 10 songs - Cheap Trick - Live at Budokan Part II. It blew me away!
The Album was originally released in Japan as a double album. I believe they played 2 nights at Budokan thats why this version is different from the album.

This is the Fats Domino composition turned up to 11. One of my favourite tracks from the live album especially with that base of drums that Bun E Carlos lays down at the beginning that builds up the energy before the wall of guitar comes on. One hell of a live jam.
This is probably their best performance of this song. It is so clean and crisp. The drum intro is stellar. I can plainly hear the different instruments.
I have met Cheap Trick and have an autographed photo from the seventies. It was so cool to shake the hands of my idols. Afterwards I was right at the stage for the concert. Great memories. I still cannot believe I actually met them.
I would like to say that when this album came out I really thought that they would've put out as a single. The intro for is honestly one of the best intro's I have heard. The drums with a kick ass beat, you then have the guitar come and it grabs you. The music just elevates you and then comes " You make me cry, when say goodbye".The are a part of it also. Great build up to the song I wish they would have put it out as a 45
I saw them as a young kid, a year before this gig. Nobody quite understood this band, but make no mistake, they did. One of a kind. Underrated, to be honest.
Saw them in the UK in 78 and twice in 79. They don't get across here very often but finally saw them again last December, in Sheffield, with Def Leppard. Awesome show. They've still got it!!@
I grew up about a half hour away from Rockford IL and I was just hitting my teens when they blew up. They were all over the radio back then and Live from Budokan could be heard blasting outta every other young guy’s muscle car back then. Just saw them live here in Reno a few days ago on their last US tour date and they still sound fantastic. Rick Nielson and Robin Zander’s sons also play with the band and they’re every bit as good as their dads.
These videos provide a reminder about how good this band could rock. It's also a good way to demonstrate just how good the guitar playing of Rick neilson can be.
He's an amazing musician. Started so many trends in mainstream lead guitar it's actually crazy. Ain't it a damn shame they don't get the credit they deserve.
Cheap Trick was the pioneer for the greatest decade of music, The 80's.!! Feel blessed to be in high school and college during this time. Peace, Love and Happiness!
I have two great memories of Cheap trick. First off, they are the first rock band I saw live. They were the opening act for KISS. KISS was at the L.A. forum on the KISS alive II tour. Secondly I was blessed to meet Rick Nielsen and Tom Peterson at a small restaurant in Hollywood; they were accompanied by Ron and Russel Mael of Sparks. All of them, great guys- great people.
I’d love to know if Robin, Rick, Tom or Bun ever watch these videos and think “damn we were so good that night”. Because to me, nobody was ever better on one night than these guys were on this one.
I love Cheap Trick. I am a 70 yr old white man and was blessed to live at a time when all the greatest bands ever came into being. The Beatles, the Stones, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mack, The Mommas and the Pappas, Carly Simon, James Taylor, Ten Years After, Cactus, Clapton, The ANimals, Ted Nuggent,Led Zepplin, Jackson Brown Robin Trower and on and on. I thank God I was there for them all and many of their predecessors. Tody there are no more super groups that go on for decades with hit after hit. I miss those days. Thank God for vynil and dvd's.

When you take an already classic song and you make it your own and create somethin unique and still great you get something like what you have here.
I have met Cheap Trick and have an autographed photo from the seventies. It was so cool to shake the hands of my idols. Afterwards I was right at the stage for the concert. Great memories. I still cannot believe I actually met them.

I would like to say that when this album came out I really thought that they would've put out as a single. The intro for is honestly one of the best intro's I have heard. The drums with a kick ass beat, you then have the guitar come and it grabs you. The music just elevates you and then comes " You make me cry, when say goodbye".The are a part of it also. Great build up to the song I wish they would have put it out as a 45

These guys are epic my mom went to school with them Guilford High! Grew up in the 80s! One of the best bands ever! 52 and still loving new releases!
The lead singer went to my school Harlem. He graduated a couple of years before me. Great guy. Rick still lives in Rockford.
I don't like to throw the term underrated around much but they were wayyyy underrated

I saw them as a young kid, a year before this gig. Nobody quite understood this band, but make no mistake, they did. One of a kind. Underrated, to be honest.

Saw them in the UK in 78 and twice in 79. They don't get across here very often but finally saw them again last December, in Sheffield, with Def Leppard. Awesome show. They've still got it!!@

I grew up about a half hour away from Rockford IL and I was just hitting my teens when they blew up. They were all over the radio back then and Live from Budokan could be heard blasting outta every other young guy’s muscle car back then. Just saw them live here in Reno a few days ago on their last US tour date and they still sound fantastic. Rick Nielson and Robin Zander’s sons also play with the band and they’re every bit as good as their dads.
One of the best bands I've seen live, first time was 86 blowing motley crue off the stage in Edinburgh

These videos provide a reminder about how good this band could rock. It's also a good way to demonstrate just how good the guitar playing of Rick neilson can be.
He's an amazing musician. Started so many trends in mainstream lead guitar it's actually crazy. Ain't it a damn shame they don't get the credit they deserve.

Budokan is a great venue. Holds plenty. Note the audience screams. Lots of Japanese girls! I played there in 1968 battle of the bands.

Just saw them in concert the other night. They Robin Zander still has a very strong voice even at 70. They still rock.

Summer 77, they opened for KISS, I couldn't believe they were the warm up act.
This band was SO good in when they were together. It is not a surprise that it was a live album that made them big.
I have two great memories of Cheap trick. First off, they are the first rock band I saw live. They were the opening act for KISS.
KISS was at the L.A. forum on the KISS alive II tour.
Secondly I was blessed to meet Rick Nielsen and Tom Peterson at a small restaurant in Hollywood; they were accompanied by Ron and Russel Mael of Sparks. All of them, great guys- great people.

I love Cheap Trick. I am a 70 yr old white man and was blessed to live at a time when all the greatest bands ever came into being. The Beatles, the Stones, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mack, The Mommas and the Pappas, Carly Simon, James Taylor, Ten Years After, Cactus, Clapton, The ANimals, Ted Nuggent,Led Zepplin, Jackson Brown Robin Trower and on and on. I thank God I was there for them all and many of their predecessors. Tody there are no more super groups that go on for decades with hit after hit. I miss those days. Thank God for vynil and dvd's.
