I was in this concert in 1975. I had arrived in London in 1972 to study business. How do you mean that? This is virtually the worst solo he ever played to that song. He obviously has no genuine ideas but recycles microphrases from former performances. He occasionally is out of rhythm - and not in a good way. Overall, it makes me wish he would just stop. Don't get me wrong: I love Zep, and I love this song. But compare this to the solo he played at Madison Square Garden, maybe you get what I am talking about.
imo this is improvisation and creativity. I think if you only care about execution Jimmy is not the right one for you. Nowadays there are a lot of good executors and a few good composers. I get that you love led zeppelin but art is different than a sport game. He always use licks in this solo but it is really different than tsrt or bbc for example.

Led Zeppelin has been a huge part of my life for 50yrs. Thank you Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and John Bonham. You never fail to touch a part of my soul. This song is certainly as you have said " A song of hope"
I'm envious of anyone who had a chance to see my heros Led Zeppelin live - I was too young at the time and must resort to checking out all their clips on TH-cam! The best band ever!!!
The Kennedy Center honorary rendition with John Bonham's son drumming, Chyna Wilson singing, accompanied by a full choir and orchestra is just one more wonderful celebration of this amazing masterpiece of musical history.
Saw them back to back nights in 1977. The tickets were $7.50! We thought that was a lot of $$ lol. The absolute best concerts of my life. When rock was king and people actually really played and had talent. God I miss those days
Saw the boys back in ‘77 also: Madison Sq. Garden. Paid through the nose: $20 for good seats through a ticket agency. Still my favorite concert! Just awesome!
Just a shattered time now in comparison to the wonderful time in life then full of love and hope when hope demineshis it gets to be dog eat dog sad but we can always have this time piece of goodness
@@alan181090 Heroin made him a sloppy player yes, but it was also very difficult, if not physically impossible for him to play the studio version of the Stairway solo with his Gibson double-neck because the studio solo (which was recorded on a Telecaster) required you to play all the way up to the 20th fret, which is impossible to reach in his Gibson because it had smaller cutaways. But yeah even still, I wish he didn't change the solo so drastically, it still catches me off-guard every time the band starts playing the solo section and Jimmy's still strumming on the 12-string and he switches over to the 6-string a couple of measures late, it's just kinda anticlimactic
I run it back to 6:00 min. Problem is the solo is too short. LMFAO it could be 3 hours long though and I'd still say it's too short. One of the most iconic riffs in rock history.

Let's all face it , Zeppelin was the biggest and best thing about music in general coming up as a young teen until this very day ! In my 50's & still listen to Zep every single day ! LONG LIVE LED ZEPPELIN ! !
I was introduced to Led Zeppelin back in 1975 by my brother. What an experience. I don’t think they knew that they were leading the charge. I’m happy to be a part of it.
I was at the Atlanta Concert in 1973. We were on the field at the old Braves stadium. They were drunk and on drugs and sounded Nothing like their albums. I was caught in a crush of pushing. I finally made it out and found a small area to lay down in. I was looking at the sky and trying to breathe. All of a sudden they played (horribly) "Stairway to Heaven". I looked at the sky and said, "Oh, God. I've died and gone to hell." LOL.....More than 2/3 of the stadium left including us. Then while getting in our car we were robbed at gunpoint!!!!!! Needless to say.... the worst concert of my life and I've been to more than 300! Rolling Stones (Twice), Elvis (Twice) Lynard Synard (5 times) Eric Clapton (three times) Eagles (Four times) Jackson Browne (Eight times), Springsteen (twice), and Jim Morrison (once) and Janis Joplan(once) were my favorites. Maybe Tom Petty as well. I've been to a lot of concerts!
Incredible, might be the best version I’ve heard. Listening to Jimmy’s extended solo you can really hear how he was developing, where he was going as a player. Need to see more of John Paul Jones and John Henry Bohnam, they are the best at what they do. Robert’s voice is amazing, he is a wise frontman.
Everybody calls John Paul Jones John Paul Jones but who the hell calls John Bonham John Henry Bonham? Also, why did you call Page ‘Jimmy’ and not James Patrick Page and Robert Robert Anthony Plant?
I was helping my friend move from California to New York. We drove, and it was a wild trip to say the least. Once we were driving through Pennsylvania, I put on this album and dozed off. I was so sleep deprived but I couldn't help but look out the window at the scenery. It was so beautiful, It genuinely felt like a dream. This song started playing and the sun was starting to peak through the horizon, so the sky looked pink and yellow, and all the green surrounding us only added to the view. It was a really simple moment but It was one of the most amazing things I'm so happy I got to experience.

Why am I crying? So many emotions. Such a masterpiece that’s timeless. Robert Platt’s voice…him looking like that back in the day. Everything about this is perfect. I’ve watched like 4 other performances of Stairway to Heaven and all of them give me goosebumps. Led Zeppelin is nothing short of divine. We are so blessed to have this band!!!!
I was born listening to this masterpiece. How not to love these guys? Do they turn music into magic... or does magic become music? Plant's incredible voice, Bonzo's powerful drums, JPJ's unrivaled talent… and Jimmy's guitar. In his hands, the guitar is not a musical instrument, it is something almost supernatural that translates his feelings, his emotions… a guitar to captivate us and lead us to ecstasy. Thank you dear Jimmy for forming Led Zeppelin! 🎶🎸🎤🥁🎹🎼❤️💙🧡💚
I am 52, never really listened to led zeppelin, but my 16, yes 16 year old introduced me to this absolute genius. He can play kashmir, heartbreaker and many more led zeppelin songs, so am late to the party, but am so glad I lived in the same time of plant, bonham, JPJ and the genius of Jimmy page. In fact I have just bought a les Gibson as my 16 year old told me too.

@Kevin Frelander They threw out the rule book and truly did it their way. Check 6:50 thru 7:15 or so. Page is strumming, and right when he changes it up for a brief second, Bonham does so AT THE EXACT SAME TIME, those two were in sync like no other.

It's interesting because on the record jimmy uses an acoustic guitar for the intro, but in the live versions he uses an electric. I guess it would be hard to switch guitars mid song lol

There are songs that, once you’ve listened to them, fade away without having any impact. Then, there are others that transcend music, achieving poetic status and enduring for eternity. Stairway to Heaven, Led Zeppelin’s immortal masterpiece, is the latter. Its lyrics are rich with cryptic references to allegories and mysticism, offering far more than the simplistic satanism that many detractors argue is its main theme. Robert Plant wrote the lyrics of course, and he has repeatedly said that he drew inspiration from the works of the Scottish writer Lewis Spence, notably from his book Magic Arts in Celtic Britain. And it is that Celtic esotericism and spirituality that truly comes through in the lyrics - no more, no less. The narrative begins with one of the most famous arpeggios in the history of music: There’s a lady who’s sure All that glitters is gold And she’s buying a stairway to heaven Who is this ambiguous female figure? Fans of occultist theories have argued that this is a metaphor for an initiation into a new type of Pagan religion; an obscure, unknown belief. But this notion has an easy counter in the many references to Christianity in the song as a whole. According to some, the lady is the Virgin Mary, and Led Zeppelin seem to tacitly confirm this, mentioning the May Queen later in the song, May being traditionally the month dedicated to Mary. But let’s avoid entering into this kind of debate and evaluate the lyrics for what they really represent. When you take the lyrics at face value, you can see that the woman is nothing more than an allegory of a greedy, materialistic, arrogant society that believes that everything, including a path to heaven, can be acquired with money alone. Moving on, Jimmy Page’s guitar and John Paul Jones’ keyboards embrace us with their ethereal melodies. There’s a feeling I get When I look to the West And my spirit is crying for leaving The West is a clear reference to the idea of purity in the Wild West, which was no longer wild in those days by any means, but is still a representation of adventure, mystery and charm. In essence, it is the place where we can remove ourselves from the materialism of contemporary society and turn our attention to the unknown, to the stranger. Robert Plant wanted to guide us on a sort of spiritual journey, to help improve ourselves and the people around us. And those who hesitate and are watchful (“Those who stand looking”), could be those with a conservative outlook, who disapprove of this kind of spiritual journey because they are imprisoned in societal materialism, unable to look forward. But, just when we least expect it, we will be called to live in peace and harmony, at one with nature and each other (“And it’s whispered that soon, If we all call the tune / Then the piper will lead us to reason”). It is now that we arrive at the famous verse which, if listened in to reverse, supposedly contains a disturbing invocation of Satan. Instead of giving this notion any more airtime though, let’s leave the rebuttal to Plant himself: “To me it’s very sad, because ‘Stairway to Heaven’ was written with every best intention, and as far as reversing tapes and putting messages on the end, that’s not my idea of making music.” This really should be enough to put the idea to bed once and for all. If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow Don’t be alarmed now It’s just a spring-clean for the May Queen This is the reference to May Queen that we mentioned earlier. The bustle in the hedgerow represents our mind, confused by the possibility of this spiritual path, or perhaps simply unprepared for it. But if it’s true that you can find many ways to change yourself, then it is also true that you always have the opportunity to hange your mind and take another path. There are no destinies that have already been written; we are all free to make our decisions with full autonomy. Moving forward with the lyrics, we arrive at the last verse before the iconic Jimmy Page solo: Your head is humming and it won’t go In case you don’t know The piper’s calling you to join him It is here when we finally get the call. Our minds are still confused, but the sweet melody of the piper is resounding in our heads, leading us towards spiritual perfection. The message is then addressed to the lady mentioned at the beginning of the song: the winds are changing and it’s time that everyone realises that humanity can really aspire to something better. At the bottom, the rough stairway to heaven, made of something tangible, is nevertheless floating in the air (“your stairway lies on the whispering wind”). It’s a path, but it’s fragile like any other - perhaps even more so, because it represents the spiritual, not the physical. The lyrics then give way to Jimmy Page’s magnificent guitar, which unleashes a riff, powerful yet dreamy at the same time. It is considered by many the most beautiful solo of all time, but it isn’t the last word; the song still has something to say in the form of one last appeal to listeners: And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last When all are one and one is all To be a rock and not to roll The last verse is a synthesis of the message contained in the lyrics as a whole: no matter how great our faults or our dark sides are, we will always have the chance to listen to and understand both those around us and ourselves. Materialism and individualism will be always present, ready to tempt us, presenting their way as the simplest and easiest one to follow, but the choice relies on us andour intentions to unite mankind. This is the only way to find harmony, to be united and “not to roll”, overwhelmed by a life imposed by stereotypes. Here it is, therefore; our stairway to heaven: our goal in life, according to Led Zeppelin, must be to discover the power of the community, the need to live together, in harmony with our souls and with nature. Only in this way can we we really improve ourselves and others, escaping the real evil of society, framed in its materialism, selfishness and disinterest towards others (“When all are one and one is all / To be a rock and not to roll”). Stairway to Heaven, in conclusion, is everything but a perverse ode to evil and darkness. In fact, it’s quite the opposite, a splendid message of solidarity, brotherhood and equality. Together, we can really change the world around us. To be a rock and not to roll. Maybe it’s just an illusion. Perhaps we will never be able to really get together and do something concrete to make our lives better. But the message is there, and that’s what Led Zeppelin wanted from us.
It doesn't get any better..greatest rock n roll band of alltime performing the greatest rock n roll song of alltime..possibly the greatest live performance ever-jimmys solo is from another dimension

Lyrics
There's a lady who's sure
All that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
There's a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
'Cause you know, sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook
There's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it makes me wonder
There's a feeling I get
When I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen
Rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it really makes me wonder
And it's whispered that soon
If we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn
For those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter
Oh whoa-whoa-whoa, oh-oh
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
And there's still time to change the road you're on
And it makes me wonder
Oh, whoa
Your head is humming and it won't go
In case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow?
And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind?
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all, yeah
To be a rock and not to roll
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

Does anyone remember laughter..

Hi I am 66 finally got to listen to music
My mom said no music back in those days
There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to Heaven
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to Heaven
There's a sign on the wall, but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, makes me wonder
There's a feeling I get when I look to the West
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, really makes me wonder
And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter
Oh-oh-oh-oh-whoa
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on
And it makes me wonder
Ohh, whoa
Your head is humming, and it won't go, in case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow? And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind?
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one, and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll
And she's buying a stairway to Heaven

And Bonham ❤
Jimmy broke a string at 8:36 and kept rocking just like that. Ridiculously good ZoSo
Simplemente epico!!❤

@@alan181090 thanks drugs
@@niltonochoa558 moronic is a disease.
7:03 my absolute favorite part of this solo. I can't tell y'all how many times I've rewinded it back to that lick. Man Jimmy's genius!
I run it back to 6:00 min. Problem is the solo is too short. LMFAO it could be 3 hours long though and I'd still say it's too short. One of the most iconic riffs in rock history.

I like Frank Zappa's version.

Rock will never die thanks to masterpieces like this glorious song.
@John Smith New generation maybe
@John Smith more like pop. I see pop is more famous and acceptable than rap. Most rap songs glorifies drugs, prostitution and most of their artists are also about showing off their money, cars and what not. Their songs will turn a person into a complete scoundrel.
Led Zep is for any generation

Amazing!!! So clearly how they were in confidence playing together with absolutely no stress...The notes and whole music are flowing freely like a river to the sea, there's something special and spiritual in this video.

The narrative begins with one of the most famous arpeggios in the history of music:
There’s a lady who’s sure
All that glitters is gold
And she’s buying a stairway to heaven
Who is this ambiguous female figure?
There’s a feeling I get
When I look to the West
And my spirit is crying for leaving
The West is a clear reference to the idea of purity in the Wild West, which was no longer wild in those days by any means, but is still a representation of adventure, mystery and charm.
If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow
Don’t be alarmed now
It’s just a spring-clean for the May Queen
This is the reference to May Queen that we mentioned earlier.
Moving forward with the lyrics, we arrive at the last verse before the iconic Jimmy Page solo:
Your head is humming and it won’t go
In case you don’t know
The piper’s calling you to join him
It is here when we finally get the call.
It is considered by many the most beautiful solo of all time, but it isn’t the last word; the song still has something to say in the form of one last appeal to listeners:
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll
The last verse is a synthesis of the message contained in the lyrics as a whole: no matter how great our faults or our dark sides are, we will always have the chance to listen to and understand both those around us and ourselves.
Except for the outro part Robert plant didn’t nail the high screams
The beauty , the magic , that’s within us all , you bring me to it within myself❤❤❤❤❤
