I was in this concert in 1975. I had arrived in London in 1972 to study business. It was an incredible concert from which I clearly remember three things: Jimmy Page's magnificent solo guitar in Starway to Heaven, Robert Plant singing bare chest at maximum potency, and the strong weed smell throughout the concert. I was 24 at that time and what a wonderful experience this was: It will live on my mind forever.
Beautifully said. We are the same age. I graduated from Michigan State University in June 1973. I bet you hear this not just in your mind, but in your heart & soul.

So lucky I had a dad with a phenomenal music taste. This is the best song I think that I have ever witnessed and should be the song that represents humanity if u get what i mean.

I was introduced to Led Zeppelin back in 1975 by my brother. What an experience. I don’t think they knew that they were leading the charge. I’m happy to be a part of it.
I was at the Atlanta Concert in 1973. We were on the field at the old Braves stadium. They were drunk and on drugs and sounded Nothing like their albums. I was caught in a crush of pushing. I finally made it out and found a small area to lay down in. I was looking at the sky and trying to breathe. All of a sudden they played (horribly) "Stairway to Heaven". I looked at the sky and said, "Oh, God. I've died and gone to hell." LOL.....More than 2/3 of the stadium left including us. Then while getting in our car we were robbed at gunpoint!!!!!! Needless to say.... the worst concert of my life and I've been to more than 300! Rolling Stones (Twice), Elvis (Twice) Lynard Synard (5 times) Eric Clapton (three times) Eagles (Four times) Jackson Browne (Eight times), Springsteen (twice), and Jim Morrison (once) and Janis Joplan(once) were my favorites. Maybe Tom Petty as well. I've been to a lot of concerts!
Hi I just wanted to thank you again for being so supportive and following me on my journey. I love inspiring and encouraging others. People like you help me to keep showing up! Hope you are having an amazing day!
Notice how the youtube most replayed for precise seeking doesnt have a peak because everybody listens to the whole song. Faith in humanity in these dark times restored at the moment.
How do you mean that? This is virtually the worst solo he ever played to that song. He obviously has no genuine ideas but recycles microphrases from former performances. He occasionally is out of rhythm - and not in a good way. Overall, it makes me wish he would just stop. Don't get me wrong: I love Zep, and I love this song. But compare this to the solo he played at Madison Square Garden, maybe you get what I am talking about.
imo this is improvisation and creativity. I think if you only care about execution Jimmy is not the right one for you. Nowadays there are a lot of good executors and a few good composers. I get that you love led zeppelin but art is different than a sport game. He always use licks in this solo but it is really different than tsrt or bbc for example.
Led Zeppelin has been a huge part of my life for 50yrs. Thank you Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and John Bonham. You never fail to touch a part of my soul. This song is certainly as you have said " A song of hope"
At 66 and seeing the end in sight listening to Led Zeppelin brings me back to my youth filled with enthusiasm, adventure, love of life and BEST rock band EVER!!! Their music stirs such strong emotions! Thank-you Led Zeppelin. . .
55 here. At the time it seemed like the great bands would keep coming. But they didn't. There really was something magical not only about the era but Led Zeppelin in particular.

This was one of my great grandma’s favorite songs. She passed away very recently at age 78. She and Jimmy Page share the exact same birthday. Every time I see Led Zeppelin perform this song live I get chills and tear up a bit. It makes me sad because it reminds me that Gram has passed, but it also makes me have happy tears because it reminds me of all the great memories and inside jokes me and her had. I love and miss you Gram, and thank you Led Zeppelin for this timeless Masterpiece. My best wishes to Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and we miss you Bonzo 💕
Hi Son, I'm a Great grandpa of the same vintage as your Grandma. I'm so happy to hear she was also a fan of Led Zep.. Our generation, although some broke a few of the old school rules, we really had a hoot in our silk shirts, our gold chains, mini skirts, platform shoes. We blew the top off the Discos, grooved all night, all over town to Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin' and any other music that took us through to 5am next morning. I Don't regret a second of it, that is until my Grandchildren and my Great Grand children see the photos at my funeral. It was time to break free of old people's rules and be free but trying not to be disrespecting of the elders. Although they thought we were weird, we weren't, we were just different and a little bit noisy.
I was 7 when you were a hippy and this is in my soul too. Also love Fool in The Rain, Kashmir and countless others! I saw LZ when I was 15 in Medford Oregon. Snuck under the fence!

@@alan181090 Heroin made him a sloppy player yes, but it was also very difficult, if not physically impossible for him to play the studio version of the Stairway solo with his Gibson double-neck because the studio solo (which was recorded on a Telecaster) required you to play all the way up to the 20th fret, which is impossible to reach in his Gibson because it had smaller cutaways. But yeah even still, I wish he didn't change the solo so drastically, it still catches me off-guard every time the band starts playing the solo section and Jimmy's still strumming on the 12-string and he switches over to the 6-string a couple of measures late, it's just kinda anticlimactic
I was born listening to this masterpiece. How not to love these guys? Do they turn music into magic... or does magic become music? Plant's incredible voice, Bonzo's powerful drums, JPJ's unrivaled talent… and Jimmy's guitar. In his hands, the guitar is not a musical instrument, it is something almost supernatural that translates his feelings, his emotions… a guitar to captivate us and lead us to ecstasy. Thank you dear Jimmy for forming Led Zeppelin! 🎶🎸🎤🥁🎹🎼❤️💙🧡💚
I am 52, never really listened to led zeppelin, but my 16, yes 16 year old introduced me to this absolute genius. He can play kashmir, heartbreaker and many more led zeppelin songs, so am late to the party, but am so glad I lived in the same time of plant, bonham, JPJ and the genius of Jimmy page. In fact I have just bought a les Gibson as my 16 year old told me too.

Incredible, might be the best version I’ve heard. Listening to Jimmy’s extended solo you can really hear how he was developing, where he was going as a player. Need to see more of John Paul Jones and John Henry Bohnam, they are the best at what they do. Robert’s voice is amazing, he is a wise frontman.
Everybody calls John Paul Jones John Paul Jones but who the hell calls John Bonham John Henry Bonham? Also, why did you call Page ‘Jimmy’ and not James Patrick Page and Robert Robert Anthony Plant?

I’ve watched like 4 other performances of Stairway to Heaven and all of them give me goosebumps. Led Zeppelin is nothing short of divine. We are so blessed to have this band!!!!
@Kevin Frelander They threw out the rule book and truly did it their way. Check 6:50 thru 7:15 or so. Page is strumming, and right when he changes it up for a brief second, Bonham does so AT THE EXACT SAME TIME, those two were in sync like no other.
I run it back to 6:00 min. Problem is the solo is too short. LMFAO it could be 3 hours long though and I'd still say it's too short. One of the most iconic riffs in rock history.
@@yannyburger Jimmy's solos are great however he lays them. It's just a bonus when they last pretty long. The Stairway solo is definitely the greatest solo of all time if you ever ask me. This is my favorite of all of them by far!

Lyrics
There's a lady who's sure
All that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
There's a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
'Cause you know, sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook
There's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it makes me wonder
There's a feeling I get
When I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen
Rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it really makes me wonder
And it's whispered that soon
If we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn
For those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter
Oh whoa-whoa-whoa, oh-oh
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
And there's still time to change the road you're on
And it makes me wonder
Oh, whoa
Your head is humming and it won't go
In case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow?
And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind?
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all, yeah
To be a rock and not to roll
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
Source
Does anyone remember laughter..

The recording sound quality is absolute amazing.
Goddamn that drum sound is just sooooo perfect. Excellent mix.
My brother introduced me to led zeppelin when I was 11 I'm 59 now we're have all the good days gone
Im a 13 yo girl and my bedroom's wall are ensue under Zeppelin posters😭👍 Thank you dad for the amazing music taste

Jimmy Paige‘s Guitar Solo is out of this world.
And Bonham ❤
Jimmy broke a string at 8:36 and kept rocking just like that. Ridiculously good ZoSo
Simplemente epico!!❤

@@alan181090 thanks drugs
@@niltonochoa558 moronic is a disease.
I like Frank Zappa's version.

@@yannyburger Jimmy's solos are great however he lays them. It's just a bonus when they last pretty long. The Stairway solo is definitely the greatest solo of all time if you ever ask me. This is my favorite of all of them by far!
soo smooth
@Pete The Medic What about the drums? It's Bonham, he's obviously unmatched. Good day my friend!
@Pete The Medic Really glad that we share this same view!
I goes without saying that the drumming is magnificent. But also John Bonham's drums sound so freckin great!!
Greatest guitar solo in the history of rock and roll jimmy page
I guess they don't sell "Layla And Other Love Songs" where you live???
I genuinely think that why does love got to be so sad is one of the best guitar solos (more like a guitar duet) of all time
@@rogerfitzsimmons6476stairway is better. You know that.. is an athem of rock..
