38 years a professional video maker.... and 18 years a professional photographer.... and our first stills-video hybrid wedding will be on July 24th. This video could NOT have dropped at a better time. Thank you Mr. Jackson.
@@markshirley01 Actually, Mark, I am planning to switch between still and video on my camera, my wife will shoot primarily stills on her camera and one camera will locked on a wide shot at the back of the church for video cover. Mic is a lav into a Zoom H1 on the groom and a second feed from the church mixer. I have practiced switching stills to video and back on my camera, a Panasonic G85; it's not hard, just create a kind of muscle memory. The plan is to also utilize still in the video. Why not? Slow Ken Burns moves can work just fine -- and show off the stills work at the same time. My goal is taking what Mr. Jackson does -- a highlight video primarily... but we are also doing interviews with guests at the church and reception. We'll be asking things like, what did he say when he first met her... what did she say when she first met him, etc. We shall see. I used to shoot live corporate event coverage and I see this in the much the same light. Looking forward to it -- plus it's the first time we've flown to wedding. We are in St. Louis, the wedding is in Seattle.
Cool. I shot video for the first time ( I was the only pro shooter at the wedding) so I just grabbed a few clips when I could, merged them with some b-roll photos and ......wow. big impact. The couple wasn't expecting any video but I included it as a bonus since it's not really my forte (yet). This was very helpful. Thanks.
Omg you should put that not only is it single prime only but it's also on aps-c, you mad lad. "Why use lot camera when less camera do trick?" - Taylor, probably also props for gettin so close this time :) introvert taylor who??
I was not expecting that camera. I’ve done video with a 750 and 850, but had not thought to use a cropped sensor. I’ve been thinking of getting the Z50 for video, but will probably just stick with a Z6II
This is interesting! Being a hybrid shooter and using my R6 as my a cam, I would always grab my R due to no overheating, video custom modes and av-/tv-mode for video, when I would do a pure video shoot like this. Since you shoot all manual, why not go with a Black Magic cam? They provide such a beautiful image and are affordable. I myself will wait for a Black Magic cam with an RF mount, since I sold all my non-RF lenses. The C70 is way too pricey atm... But awesome to see you make the Nikon work like this!
I think he does use the R5/R6 now. Assuming this was a couple years ago since travel has been shutdown (in Canada especially) with Covid. I could be incorrect though!
how do you focus ? manual with focus peaking or af-F full with eye detection,... ? I would like to learn how to focus manually but it seems so difficult ! today on Z6ii I have found that WIDE-L, even without eye detetcion, is quite accurate.
This was all manual since Nikon DSLRs didn’t really have usable af. (This video is also from a wedding in 2016) I’m happy to let the z6ii run on more autofocus. I tend to use subject tracking a lot on it
nice video but i am lost. i am newbie in video with a z6ii+Z 35mm F/1.8+polar pro VND 2-5 stops and wanted to buy rsc2 gimbal to avoid shaking effect on my 25fps 1/50sec full hd 1080p videos. I was looking for a course on how to improve my videos. I looked your plugin and it seems just to add motion blur in after effect (i just purchased premere pro). If i understand, your course deals with 25fps 1/640sec typ, without ND, without gimbal,... ? How is it possible to use high shutter speed at 25fps ? Or did you film in slowmotion at 120fps 1/250sec... ?
Didn’t have copyright for TH-cam on the final track so it flagged it and I had to remove the section. I’m doing another tomorrow that I’ll include it in
are there people willing to watch something longer than a 3min something music video style you described? I mean, the attention span people have gets shorter and shorter. I must admit if someone sends me a wedding video 30min or longer, I would roll eyes and cry internally "kill me"
I’m sure there is a market for it. Especially if it’s a multi day event. My couples would for sure hire a dedicated video crew if they were looking for that though.
I find one is easier, cheaper and makes for a better final product. Nikon makes it especially easy. If I was on Sony I’d probably have to run two independent cameras though since they make hybrid difficult

David - are you going to dedicate one person to video and one person to photo.

Haha yah. This video is from 2016 when it came out. D500 is probably still the best crop sensor dslr out there
As always, very informative video, thanks Taylor!
Thanks Taylor that was very interesting. I thought your D780 or Z6 II would have been great for this.
Yes it's kinda weird he went for the D500 for video when he has the z6, D780 and so on
@@doubleo3605 just realized Taylor has answered this - this video was from a few years back when he used the D500.
Great video! Where can I see the actual film? Thanks!
Great share - thank you !
We went to that hotel in November last year for our honeymoon gorgeous place 👌

Helpful and informative. Thanks Taylor!
Good 👍 nice video 👍 thanks for sharing my friend
Great content as usual. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for this great video, I learned a lot from it!
P
thanks for your nice videos
Do you have two “second shooters” with you on this shoot?
I’m just video man mostly today
Amazing video
THANKYOU...
What autofocus was you using on this shoot?
All manual.
Were all those photographers with you?? lol

did you figure it out ? I just bought a z6II and It was a bundle with a rsc2. My problem is mostly "how to focus while on gimbal" though :))
Wondering how come you never used auto iso. But I guess because you like changing shutter speed manually.
Taylor you were in my country?!!!!
Hah I was! This was 2016 though. Will be back once travel life returns to semi normal
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto Hurry up and come back, T!!
That's awesome though!
Sounds great! Not telling you to notify me but...notify me 😹😹
Great video! Would have been great to see the outcome though 🥲
Hah I’ll have another one coming in a week or two that goes more into the day. This one was from 2016 so I hadn’t refined my bts process yet
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto awesome looking forward to it😁👍🏼
What's your camera body?
This looks like Jamaica
Praise the Lord 🙏
Where is the final video? You took us on the process but didn’t show the result.

3 mins is the limit these day for most event stuff
why not have two setups?
