    The flipping lens around to get macro trick BLEW MY MIND! I used to just free-lens and get nervous that dust would get into the camera, but this is nicer when you don't need the customization. Awesome.

    Thanks for the video. I have both the 24mm and 50mm on a crop sensor Canon. The biggest differences are that the 24mm is a wide-angle lens and only goes down to 2.8 while the 50mm is not wide angle but can step down to 1.8. Now, if Cano would introduce a 24mm 1.8, I'd be a very happy camper!

    This is so helpful thank you. I just picked up an old 5d mark ii and a 50mm 1.8 and I think it is going to be a killer for my portrait and product work. Even indoors for events it'll work nice as well. Definitely complement my other lenses as well. I think a 14mm may also be in my future. You would be surprised though, I have a 22mm prime on a crop sensor that does surprisingly well at astro, but the 15mm could be a pretty significant difference.

    50mm F/1.8 is actually not that bad for astrophoto, you can make great panoramas with it ! But you will need to stitch in post and maybe use a star tracker...

      I sometimes use my Canon 24mm f/2.8 STM, but for wide-field Astrophotography, I prefer my 18mm...
      Also, does the 50mm also suffer as much as the 24mm from the 'coma'-effect in the corner of the photo? (stars have wings)

      I personally find the 50 mm too close. You would have to keep your camera pretty far away.
      If, like me, you have your camera on your computer desk, you would be better off with a kit lens. I have an 18 -55 mm lens. Great wide angle to capture your fretboard right to your strumming.

    • @PaulHeimlund
      @PaulHeimlund  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! The 50mm is dope in low light! If you don’t have enough light in the room, just bring in any house hold lamp. Even though your camera might be cropped sensor you can get really cinematic shots, compared to a kit lens.
      Best of luck ;)

    *** “The 50mm is, more or less, what your eyes see...”
    Please pardon my trolling, the video is excellent. However, it is worth noting that the notion of a 50 being “true” to human vision is based on it being mounted on a FF or 35 mm camera. On a crop sensor, a “true” field of vision is closer to 35mm. Which, now that I think about it, is covered under the “more or less” bit. So never mind. Carry on as you were.

      You’re completely right. I edited that part out of the video. Hence the more or less comment. Great input!

      pidge414 When is was using a 35mm film camera I found that 70mm seemed to match my eyes far better than 50mm. It was only when I used my 50mm on a crop sensor digital camera that it matched my eyes. I’m not sure if this is a bad sign or a good sign.

    50 is what your eyes would see, but on a crop sensor you're using it's more like 80.

    I just got mine today for $40. I shoot on a kit lens that came with the camera so it is a little bit of a learning curve but from what I've seen using the 50mm its worth the money and forces me to be more creative and use different angles
