Not sure if this falls under bts, but I'm very interested in that handheld rig you have going for the a7III! Never seen someone use a shoulder strap/chest brace set up before like that and I'm curious what you like about it/how comfortable/convenient it is to use! Do you find if gives you a close-ish look to like an easy rig?
Thanks for posting this! I would love to know more about your handheld rig/gimbal/tripod/monopod setup, and how you gameplan for rapidly changing over the course of the day, and keeping the other components nearby and accessible. I'm always scrambling to have the right setup from one moment to the next. Would also love to see more about that sweet handheld rig.
Sweet! Yah going to make a video on the handheld rig, and I've got the links to every piece put together on our gear kit page which is linked at the top of the video! As far as having the right stuff accessible I think having a second shooter or assistant goes a long way first off. Beyond that it's all about always thinking a few steps ahead, knowing what you will need where, and asking for what you need. For example if the schedule gets tight and I need to be in one place and then need something else for a different setup I have no issue saying hey I just need a minute I'll be right back. You're the professional, and there should be trust that you know what you are doing and what you need to make the best film possible. And when all else fails what you have on you should always be usable for most scenarios. If I ever get caught in a tough place whether with my gimbal setup or my handheld setup I can probably shoot whatever I need to shoot. Might not be my ideal way to shoot it but I can do it.

Don't really understand why some people here are bashing you for using a mask... Respect you guys for being so professional and playing it safe always with the masks on! Well done!

Well again....it doesn't matter what anyones opinion is. I am legally required to wear one to be able to be a vendor at a wedding. It's been that way for this entire season and may be the same for next season. I'm not going to not make any content because I would have to wear a mask...

Thanks so much that means a lot! Good to know! I'm up there a handful of times per year, sometimes for shoots, sometimes for fun haha. Whereabouts are you?
Loving your camera setup Bobby. It's exactly what I've envisioned in my head for my own rig. How is it weight wise and portability? I film adventurous wedding so do you think it would be a little too much for something to hike with etc? Just seen you mentioned about making a video for it. Will definitely check that out! Great video! It's good to see so many filmmakers various approaches!
Hey! Thanks it's a pretty fun setup. Weight wise I really don't have a gauge but most of the weight sits on your shoulders so it's not too bad. I can pick it up with one arm but wouldn't hold it that way for too long. My only issue with portability that I am trying to solve is when I'm not using that rig I'd like a way to rotate it to my back or something so it can be out of the way. Haven't perfected that aspect but that's a pretty small issue. I think you could hike with it if you didn't have to bring much else. You could also strip this down a bit. I'm also running the 24-70 which is a heavy lens. If I were hiking with it for an elopement I might take a smaller prime with me instead. Yah planning to do a video on it, in the next week or two probably. You can check out all the pieces of the kit here though! kit.co/WeddingFilmSchool
That ring shot is genius!! It's those little details that make wedding films special. I am curious about what your music searching process is like - I always avoid songs with lyrics just because they tend to be generic on these royalty-free websites, but I think this one worked well on this
Thanks! Ring shot is one of my favorite shots of the day haha. Get to just totally set something up how I want it. S for vocal tracks you really have to be using music bed as they have by far the best library especially when it comes to vocal tracks (there's a link for a free month or something in the description but I've used them way before I was an affiliate). I almost only use songs with lyrics but that's a personal choice. If you look at one of my recent how to edit weddings videos I go over music selection a bit

Nice video :) I have one question for your experience with wedding. Do you think, that clients are wonder about video quality? I think, if you will shoot wedding with a7III and next time you will use a7sIII, do you think that clients will say - oh there is a better dynamic range and colors than last video. Or they are wonder only about their story? My point is, how important for weddings is to have the newest cameras, and if someone will choose videographer because has a better image quality. Thank you for reply :)
Absolutely not. I mean if your product looks VASTLY different then what is on your website or one of your films that they saw then yes, but your client will not notice the difference between any current camera. You are far better off having a camera that serves your purposes that you need than having the best. 99% of wedding filmmakers do not push their gear to its limits. Upgrading cameras does more for making your life easier than it does for the quality of your finished product.
@@WeddingFilmSchool Thank you for quick answer and good advice :) Thanks to your channel, I started make wedding videos because of you, it was great inspiration :)I am looking forward to next video. Send greeting from Czech
I haven't seen someone orient a shoulder pad like that on a mirrorless rig before. That, in combination with the neck strap, looks like an awesome combo. I'm going to have to try that!
@@WeddingFilmSchool I just shot my first graduation and oh my goodness I still have so much to learn! My background is in mostly design and post production. Your videos are very inspiring and helpful. Thank you for making this video! 👍
Loved the BTS! Thanks for explaining so much for us all. Just quickly, how much does a video production like this cost the couple? 2 Shooters full day, 4 bodies a drone and edit.
Happy to help! My collections are based on the end product, a one song or two song highlight film essentially, though there are some other differences in my collections. It's always two shooters, and it's never limited by the gear I use (i.e. they can't hire me for less cameras or no drone or something that I feel makes my job easier or makes my work better). My collections start at $4500 for video.

You guys don't understand how your videos make me feel...I got so emotional watching the final video. The song choice was just perfect!!. Is the final video given to the client usually this short, or is it a much longer version of this given to the client?
I don't offer a main film longer than 8 minutes. They can also get their ceremony film as well as a speeches / dances film from the reception, but the creative edit is always 8 minutes or less for me - Bobby
FOR REAL haha. Definitely wish it wouldn't have been the case both for filming and for my audio (and the audio from the day haha) but oh well what can you do. Glad you enjoyed it!
I use the same Godox lights for weddings- I picked up a powerbank from Amazon for like $110 to power them so I don't have to worry about finding plugs or running extension cords!
People in the US are really living the dream... 80% of the weddings & couples I shoot (Germany) are either wiling to pay for one photographer or one videographer. About 15% of the weddings I am booked as a hybrid shooter who does stills and video coverage. And at maybe 5% of the weddings, there is either a photographer or videographer in addition to me.
Yikes, well I don't know your market but there are people here in the US who say the same thing. It's all about finding the right couples and marketing yourself the right way. And I would never do both photo and video by myself at a wedding, I'd go crazy! And I would deliver two bad products probably haha
Thanks! It's a custom build out little rig and it's awesome! I am going to be making a video about this rig specifically in the next week or two but you can find all the pieces in our kit! kit.co/WeddingFilmSchool
Thanks for the sharing these tips and tricks! But I gotta ask, what cam and settings was this video done with? The highlights seem a little over exposed.
Yah there are definitely some overexposed shots in the BTS stuff. I dunno it was pretty run and gun and was shot by an outside hire. Also our first time doing BTS
@@fitzgeraldfilmsMN Yah that's not really realistic unfortunately. I'd have to like track it on the day of and would affect my final product which I'm obviously not willing to do. In general I'm probably between f/2- f/4, shutter ideally at double frame rate, and iso wherever it needs to be accordingly. Outside probably using and ND (i talk about that at some point in here) and if not I'll crank shutter to wherever it needs to be
Mind sharing how you rigged up the shoulder mount and strap on your rig to use the way you did? My back is taking a beating and I don’t always love a monopod. Lol
i love the rig ...the handheld..with that thing pushing against the body. How did you rig that up? could you make a detailed explanaition. I like shooting handheld and want to have more points of contact with my cage and gh5
Great Video!. Do you find it easier to color correct and grade using no Picture Profile? Do you decrease sharpness in camera then add it back in editing?
I (Bobby) don't feel like a major expert when it comes to color grading and I find that shooting in cine 4 or log, at least for me, ends up being more work and I sometimes find myself second guessing the grade I've done. I am happy with my colors and I can achieve that look with PP off so I'm content there I guess for the moment. I do not decrease sharpness
@@WeddingFilmSchool Thanks for the response. I find myself in a similar situation. I'm shooting a flat cin4. I'm constantly questioning my grade and know it can be better but can tune it to how I would like, also being red green color blind don't help. I think I'll try no PP for my next. Thanks! Do you have to mask out each shot to de-saturate the over saturated greens? Or do you just use your lut with minor adjustments?
I don't typically do a color mask. My current wedding I'm working on there were a few shots that I had to so it's not like it never happens but that was more to match between cameras than it was for the look itself. I generally don't mind the way greens look after my look is dialed in and I don't usually touch them specifically
Great video! A couple of questions... Do you use a UV filter on all of your lenses? Do you not ever use the awesome auto focus on the Sony A73? What type of viewing monitor do you recommend? I usually shoot 108060 50mbs Looking into shooting more 4k. Is it ok to shoot 4k 60 @6oth on shutter? Thanks for your input!!!
I don't use a UV filter on any lenses. I now use the a7siii as my main camera but in either case I have a custom button assigned to swap between AF and MF. Sometimes I'll fully manual focus a shot but I don't like doing that with standard sony lenses which are fly by wire focusing. Instead sometimes I'll touch screen to grab focus and then switch to manual so that it doesn't keep hunting. Also during a ceremony a lot of times I will have certain cameras on MF. No you need to shoot at least double your frame rate so you'll need to be at 1/125th or higher
Thanks for the feedback, what would you say could be a "wow" factor in a behind the scenes video? I'm always open to ideas but I will say this is uniquely difficult to pull off because my priority of course at a real wedding has to be my couple and the job I'm hired for. Not my youtube channel
@@WeddingFilmSchool the behind the scenes was dope just the final product felt somewhat basic. I know everyone has a style and artistic vision but maybe doing tighter shots and more movement creativity? Again just my opinion and I look forward to watching your next video. Keep up the great work 💪🏾💪🏾
For sure! It's a bunch of smallrig pieces for the most part, but I'm thinking I'll make a video about the rig itself as I've gotten a lot of comments on it
12:54 😂 gotta use the speed to get the shot. Also any reason you shoot with PP off on the Sony's instead of cine 4? Do you do any color grading to the final image?
Haha! I shot cine 4 for like a year but the advantages didn't really seem worth it to me. I can get an image that I like with PP off with less work. An yah I do a grade for all of my weddings
@@WeddingFilmSchool Awesome! By August my elbow is trashed form lugging my camera all summer. I'm not a monopod dude, so this might be just what I need!

I have never have more than 5-7min setup time before the ceremony starts. My brides refuse to put the dress on until about 15 min. before the ceremony is scheduled to start . (Bridal prep is only scheduled for 20 min total time & I'm competing with the photographer during that time).
How long have you been doing video? One thing I have done more and more in the 14 years I've been shooting weddings is play a bigger role in the timeline and ask for what I need. I can't setup for a ceremony in 5 minutes so I would always look at their schedule and make those changes for them to allow them to get the best video possible. And if you feel like you can't really work alongside a photographer then show up earlier for bridal prep or something
@@WeddingFilmSchool I've been at it for almost 11 years. I shoot weddings in an area where they don't truly appreciate the craft. (Middle/lower Delaware) I am relocating to a bigger city area just outside Pennsylvania and planning to revamp my entire wedding company. I'm a big fan of WFS and looking for ways to reinvent the brand. You guys are awesome and have given me much to consider in my process.
On the handheld rig is the 24-70 sigma art, but that rig is with the a7sii in this video actually. I use my a7iii on my gimbal because the AF is better
Hi I see that you were using a power bank for your power supply for your camera can you please tell me what kind is it, because I have been looking for one for my blackmagic pocket cinema 4k thanks 🙏.
Hey, honestly don't know the name or anything. I have a couple from amazon, different brands and they all work great. Don't even know the battery size but it can power my a7iii all day, and it's physically the side of two decks of cards length wise and the thickness of one deck of cards?
@@UnclePrakrik I'll go over it when I make the video but off the top of my head I think it mounts to the rails with the rail block clamps I linked in that kit
We don't use just one. On the handheld setup we run a 24-70, gimbal is a 16-35, on the monopod usually a 50 or an 85 and on sticks you will see us using a 30mm, 100mm, 135mm, and 70-200mm
I'm trying put together a documentary on wedding videography for my thesis project in grad school. I wish I could find videographers in St Louis, because that's where I'm currently residing. But I need potential wedding videographers to interview....
Can you please help me to understand how do you focus? Is it always autofocus(Eye) if so how do you transition on non human object and focus. It's difficult to understand which focus mode to use especially for wedding where you need change focus with people face and things quickly?
Depends on your camera. If you have solid AF you can utilize a touch screen if you have it or your focus points. Or you can trust your cam to know what you want to focus on if it's a human or utilizing your various focus modes like zone or wide. If you're camera's AF isn't good, then of course you'll want to have the right settings but they will only help so much.
A bit unorganized compared to other weds BTS ive watched, like here the groom already had the suites on and asked to take off. Well as they say, pick the advice it may seems right and good for you.. learn from it .. 🙏 THANK YOU so much for this video, And i subscribed, cant wait to watch more of your channel📸🤩
That's just called rolling with the punches of the day my man haha and it's a lesson in itself! No matter how many times I tell a groom not to get ready before the day....sometimes it just happens. I'm not gonna not film groom prep because of it. Thanks for watching and glad you liked it!
@@WeddingFilmSchool Probably. Any suggestion on what size monitor to get? Budget friendly. I also have little clearance on the gimbal to the handle arm ratio.
I use a 5 inch on my gimbal but whenever I switch to my handheld rig with the 7 inch monitor I always like it better haha. But it would be heavier and more cumbersome. A 5 inch is still a big upgrade from the camera monitor
What would you guys like to see in future BTS videos?

What kind of hip-jig are you using there? Looks great and stable.
It's very stable! It's a rig built from a few different things. Thinking I'm going to do a video on it as there has been a lot of interest
@@WeddingFilmSchool would be greatly appreciated
@@WeddingFilmSchool Agreed, would love to hear about this! Looks convenient, easy to move in, and easier on the arms than hauling a gimble all day.
Oh yah for sure! Doesn't wear out my arms. Doesn't give the same look as a gimbal of course but it has it's place for sure
Great video! A lot of great information!! What is that side rig that you uses? It looks super Kool.
Thanks! It's a custom build out little rig and it's awesome! I am going to be making a video about this rig specifically in the next week or two but you can find all the pieces in our kit! kit.co/WeddingFilmSchool
Great content. I love BTS. Thanks!!
Thanks so much!
51 minutes. Well done. Will be sitting this throughout. And thanks for wearing masks! People like you guys really make the world a better place :)
Haha thank you! Yah had no idea how long this would turn out but I mean it's a full wedding day condensed way down so I guess it makes sense!
this is beautiful... well done
Thank you so much! - Bobby
Thanks for the video! Has anyone ever requested the raw footage and been disappointed that it wasn’t all shot in 4K?
Literally have never had that problem. I think in my 15 years doing this I have only had maybe 2 or 3 people even ask about 4k - Bobby
@@WeddingFilmSchool Bobby, does that mean you upscale and output your final delivery at 4K 30 FPS or 24 FPS?
VERY NICE VIDEO!at gimbal what aperture do you use at day with your lens?for exable at time of video:18.51.thanks
Probably f4 but this video is old I don't remember
Nice Bts
Thanks for the sharing these tips and tricks! But I gotta ask, what cam and settings was this video done with? The highlights seem a little over exposed.
Yah there are definitely some overexposed shots in the BTS stuff. I dunno it was pretty run and gun and was shot by an outside hire. Also our first time doing BTS
@@WeddingFilmSchool some great info anyways! and far from the worse that ive seen lol
Great Bobby! And I haven't even watched it yet!
Thanks man! Let me know what you think when you get around to it!
Yup, great stuff. I'd love to see camera settings with the raw footage. I know it'd be a lot more work though.
Lol
There's a video on the channel going over this rig - Bobby
i love the rig ...the handheld..with that thing pushing against the body. How did you rig that up? could you make a detailed explanaition. I like shooting handheld and want to have more points of contact with my cage and gh5
I have a video all about this rig on the channel!
I love it perfect
Thanks!
very helpful, Waht is your picture profile and color mode?
Thanks! Think I talk about it somewhere but I shoot standard, PP off, so nothing special there
@@WeddingFilmSchool How do you color grade the Sony standard footage? It looks great.
I generally don't mind the way greens look after my look is dialed in and I don't usually touch them specifically
hi.very nice BTS!can you give a link for power pack so i can give continues power to my gh5 lumix camera?thanks
All gear used is linked in the kit in the description
great! What is your picture profile for A7III?
PP Off
Great video :)
Thanks!
@@WeddingFilmSchool Thanks for your info!
Thanks for the video. In my opinion it’s missing the wow factor. Look forward for more future videos. 👍🏽
Keep up the great work 💪🏾💪🏾
Oh gotcha gotcha. Yah there are lots of variables as I'm sure you know. The day, the couple, the vendor team, etc.
love to get more details on that rig you have.
@@WeddingFilmSchool interesting, I'll have to try it. I guess then my question is why upgrade to the A7siii haha.
@@stevenuseda6317 dynamic range and 4k 60!
@@JDHD2 Understand the 4k 60 but you're not getting more dynamic range using PP off. Regardless these guys make great films so its all semantics.
great job!
Thanks! :)

Nice job Bobby
Thanks yo!
What is that strap rig you are using? I like that...could save my elbow!!
I'm making a video about it but you can find all the pieces here kit.co/WeddingFilmSchool
@@WeddingFilmSchool Awesome! By August my elbow is trashed form lugging my camera all summer. I'm not a monopod dude, so this might be just what I need!
Hope it works well for ya!
I got PTSD when you didn't even put on a wind muffler on the mic when its basic sense that you would hear leaves shaking cuz the wind.
good afternoon,i would like to kow the name of the equipment th you use in this weding. The thing you put your camera the one u+you put in your stomatch.
Hi Nice video Thx What is that camera strap around your neck with bottom support called?
Thanks! It's a whole rig setup built out of many pieces....I plan to do a video on it but here's most of the pieces of it kit.co/WeddingFilmSchool/ultimate-handheld-rig
I have bought all the accessories for Ultimate Handheld Rig but i cant figure how you set the NICEYRIG Steady Shoulder Mount
to your belly!!! Please help! Thanks
What is that strap rig you have when you go hand held?
Planning to do a video on that whole rig setup as I've gotten a LOT of questions about it! Stay tuned!
Which brand of follow focus you use and what is your opinion of it ? Do you recommend it ?
I have a video on the channel going over the entire rig with links to everything and I loved this follow focus
@@WeddingFilmSchool Tks a lot !!
Take care !
You guys are awesome and have given me much to consider in my process.
sony a7iii , getting Raw video ?
Raw meaning we are showing ungraded unprocessed footage
Kraig Adams is the best in Wedding Film School🤩
Kraig hasn't been a part of Wedding Film School in years....
@@WeddingFilmSchool I still watch him because of his natural sense of humor
whats the lens on the main a7iii?
Can I ask for the details of the Camera Rig. I am looking for that kind of set-up.
Will do a video on it specifically but the pieces are all here: kit.co/WeddingFilmSchool/ultimate-handheld-rig
@@WeddingFilmSchool Thanks. Do you have a link how to mount it horizontally? Can't figure it out. Thank in advance.
@@UnclePrakrik I'll go over it when I make the video but off the top of my head I think it mounts to the rails with the rail block clamps I linked in that kit
What focal length you use for your cam and which focal for 2nd shooter ?
We don't use just one. On the handheld setup we run a 24-70, gimbal is a 16-35, on the monopod usually a 50 or an 85 and on sticks you will see us using a 30mm, 100mm, 135mm, and 70-200mm
Do you use a mono or stereo 1/4 with the tascam dr-40?
I use mono
What type of rig do you have setup for the camera in the beginning? Looks like a shoulder pad flipped horizontally.
I have a whole video on it on this channel - Bobby

I want this camera rig setup with the strap
We've got a video on how to build it!
What’s that harness type thing around your neck called?
Check out my video on the perfect handheld setup a few months back! Lists everything needed to put together that rig
A bit unorganized compared to other weds BTS ive watched, like here the groom already had the suites on and asked to take off. I have a Weebill lab gimbal and a similar dual handle I purchased for it. Tho, I cannot fit my video light on it ;(
Meh, I wouldn't usually run a light on camera anyways....throw it on a light stand somewhere instead!
@@WeddingFilmSchool Any budget ones to recommend? Not cheap plastic but not breaking the bank
