I had mine in neutral and it came out and went back easily. I know on other motors it must be in forward and even then I have found that I have had to jiggle between forward and neutral. This was not the case when I did it this time.
Hi Al if I understand you right I have done that before and just slipped the prop back on temporarily and had someone turn it back and forth while I'm putting upward pressure on the leg to fit it back in

great video, the water from my engine comes out in flots. I have also changed the impeller and the gaskets.

@@3videnc3 the point where the fixed shaft mounted inside the powerhead housing meets the long shaft that runs down to the gearbox
I always remove lower unit in reverse gear as can turn prop to line up splines easy on refit

How did you attach garden hose?
When I start it I use Muffs that cover the intake and feed the water in. Normal practice after taking the motor for a run.
No washer on top of impeller inside impeller housing? Looks like the kit comes with 2 plastic washers
didn't get that in the vid, but yes there is one there, it took a bit of fiddling.
Before dropping the lower end are you supposed to keep in neutral or forward gear

Washer is not in place
Should have marked the trim tab position before removing it.
Good point for someone that isn't familiar with their outboard but I was ok and had it back in the right place.

It's a Key. Not a Key way. Don't lose the "key"
The key way is the slot on the impeller (as he said). The key is the metal piece that fits in the key way. You sir are incorrect.
Greg your right, it is the Key, unrehersed will sometimes do this.
