    John, you're a legend for showing us the carnage in the Bloomfield. It staggers me that gentle little stream( we called it Thompsons Creek back in the day) that was iconic with its tree canopy that formed a tunnel over it absolutely had its identity ripped out and the stream bed is 40-50 meters wide in places. If you ever wanted a postcard pic of a Daintree rainforest stream, it had it all. I watched it with my old Mum, and she thanks you for your thoughtfulness in sharing with us ( "he's such a good boy" 😊). We'll always be 14-15yrs old in her eyes 😊. Thanks heaps my friend, and I hope all is well in your world.

Yes I feel that age when I'm there, I'm home. All is ok here, but a sad passing of ol Bobby Ball last night, do you remember him. The residents of Wujal Wujal are still not back in Wujal Wujal yet it's been about 5 months due to the flooding and the old fella passed on off country, a very big loss for everyone.

There are a half dozen Bama who's names are at the top of the list of my parents go to sources and friends , and Bobby was one of them. He moved easier than most between the white mans world and the Bama. What a loss for the community...you don't just replace the wisdom and knowledge these old timers have. I will tell mum..she'll be sad. I love the 3d work when I do it, although this I just thought I would see what I could get out of a vertical camera angle because I had it. Normally I would fly at an angle to pick up under trees and side walls etc. . There is so much to learn and it's a whole industry in itself but for me it's super important as I can better tell a story of the land and any historical and cultural evidence that lay within the surveyed site.

    The only creeks that we had names for back in my day, were Granite creek which was about a kilometer before you drove into Wujal Wujal, and Thompsons creek which flowed into the Bloomfield across the river (south side) from the bottom of Davis hill. I have seen footage of terrible damage of Thompsons creek as it was built up quite a bit in the 40-50 years after we left. I believe that the Walker family had strong ties to what we called Thompsons creek.

Can you describe which creek it is to us using your old house as a reference point? In other words, is this the seasonal creek just after you leave the store in Ayton heading upriver towards your old place, or is it a seasonal creek between your place and the school? Unfortunately for us, Gap creek or the Radnals don't ring a bell as it's been so long. Thanks man.

    G'day John. Your video brought back some old faded memories of traveling that road in the late 70s and early 80s. Mum and Dad used to start out 1-2 weeks early in late Nov. to pick me up from boarding school for Christmas holidays because sometimes it took that long to get to Cairns if the wet started early. Many times we had to camp by rivers including this one waiting for floodwaters to go down. I have watched with great interest the ongoing saga of the flooding of Wujal Wujal as best we can here in the U.S. It looks like the Bloomfield river valley just plain got flattened including Wujal and the Thompson creek area. I'd be curious to know how the people living around Ayton at my old house fared. At any rate, I trust you and your family are well, and if you ever get a chance, I would love to get your narrative on the damage caused by the flooding at Wujal Wujal. As a sad side note, my old dad Hank finally left us at 100years young..thought you might remember him. All the best mate Steve

    • @DaintreeJD
      @DaintreeJD 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah Steve, your dad was a good mad and he and my dad will both be having some good yarns I'm sure. I remember the first fishing rod I ever used was one of your dads, he was left handed and I recall watching eagerly as he flicked lures off the north side of the spit , he saw me watching and went and got me his spare rod to use for a while. My dad bought me a little rod and reel after that. We had some good times all of us on the river hey. On those floods this year we lost Ray Dark it all happened so fast he was on the phone to his neighbour and on the second floor when he apparently stated he was going down the river now inside his house. I don't believe they found his body yet. Billy Dunn was apparently swimming for 3 hours until he got into a tree. Steve we would have probably been taken as the flooding was so bad the main road was washed out above the height of the house along the river side. It was already flooding and reports that I got was the river rose near another 10 to 15 meters in 15 minutes........... we are lucky no one else was lost. I feel very helpless (like so many others).

    Did they fit nut sleeves because of the bigger stud size?

    • @DaintreeJD
      @DaintreeJD ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Adam thanks for your message, I will go check but they were fitted professionally by the tyre place i purchased my new AT tyres from and the nuts for the studs came with the wheels and went straight on so I can't see how they would be different. I am not aware of any sleeves but will check and let you know.

    • @adammartin9607
      @adammartin9607 ปีที่แล้ว

      Upon further research the stud size stays the same but the stud nuts come with a lug to fill the 22mm holes unlike the old rim stud holes being 14mm. I'm doing the same to my 100 series

    I know that spot. What happened to the house? Tell you what google maps sends you to the Bloomfield near Wujal if you search for Woobadda Creek, a camping a swimming spot on the cape trib track. Very confusing for tourists like me. Could have contributed to the recent attack.

    • @DaintreeJD
      @DaintreeJD ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, yeah house was torn down. Yes sometimes the maps are well off, I have noticed that too. I hear what your saying about the confusion although there are crocodile warning signs at each river access point. It amazes me that people still do crazy things when there are sign posts warning not to swim there because of crocodiles.

    Before dropping the lower end are you supposed to keep in neutral or forward gear

    • @DaintreeJD
      @DaintreeJD ปีที่แล้ว

      I had mine in neutral and it came out and went back easily. I know on other motors it must be in forward and even then I have found that I have had to jiggle between forward and neutral. This was not the case when I did it this time.

    How do you get the wires into the vehicle?

    • @DaintreeJD
      @DaintreeJD ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Shane thanks for your message. It runs along the frame and under the windshield metal (the wiring fits nicely under and it has enough pressure to hold it in place. I then follow the Chanel into the engine bay and through the firewall rubber grommet. Getting into and through the rubber grommet in the firewall was difficult but doable, I used a flexible piece of wire rolled back on the tip and worked it into the rubber and round the corner into the passenger footwell.

      @@DaintreeJD Thank you so much for the quick reply! I attended a ceremony probably about 15 years ago as part of a guided walk led by one of the Elders. It was quite wonderful of course. I had a feeling it wasn't eucalyptus leaves that were used, unlike here in Naarm. I am an artist and we asked if we could come back and paint. The guide said he would ask an Elder to accompany me, and they did - such a privilege. Now when I look at that painting, I see things I didn't know I was painting. It was a very special experience and a generous thing to allow me to do this, and I am grateful. Thanks again.
