      How do you define "K-pop"? And if you try to define it, doesn't BTS still fit under that definition in several ways? I'm not on some anti stuff here, I've really liked BTS ever since The Save me MV popped up in my recommendations years ago. Beorahae💜

    • @whatever_itis
      @whatever_itis 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@denzelwenzel Kpop is, in my opinion, the most fundamental or basic group. I'm not hating, but if you ask me to define kpop, I'll say Blackpink without hesitation. They are the most fundamental and mass-produced group. There is a lack of substance and contents, they don't have a song for their fans, they model 24/7, they have the most basic choreography, practically all of their discography is about being badass, and so on, they are simply overrated (in my opinion). Before I knew about Kpop, the only thing I knew and thought about was that these idols were just kids or young people who had a good looking face and could sing and dance a little bit, and were formed into a group to sing and dance to produced songs by in-house producers. But BTS sets the bar too high with all their talents and achievements as a producer, songwriter, choreographer and more.

  • @charach7855
    @charach7855 2 ปีที่แล้ว +150

    The good thing about this, is the song itself can be apply to many types of relationships. It could be romantic relationship, I could be parents and child relationship (children try to please their parents), it could be relationship between friends, relationship between performers/artists/idols with their fans, or even your relationship with yourself such is if you want to be like someone else or you want to be accepted or looks cool and try to act in certain ways but it's actually not yourself. We will get burn out if we are not ourselves. We should love ourselves first to be able to flourish.
    Do you notice that the word safe me, when you flip it upside down it's become I'm fine?
    A lot of people (including us) are like that. I'm fine in the outside but inside actually saying save me please.

    BTS doesn't make music videos...they make cinematic experiences LOL. I think there is a behind the scenes video for the making of this video, kinda show you what is and isn't special effects. One thing you will find as you go along is that BTS never does something just to do it. There is always a deeper meaning to lyrics, symbolism in a video...always. Nothing is ever a coincidence, or done on accident lol. And I notice it more in live performances of this song than in the video, but when they are singing 'fake love', the members are all doing one of the 'speak no evil, hear no evil, see no evil' in the choreo. Once you see it, you can't unsee it lol.

      Correct!! I really enjoyed the asthetic as well as the music !

  • @msmichellewinchester
    @msmichellewinchester 2 ปีที่แล้ว +78

    Yes, you got it pretty much right. Fake Love is about a relationship (romantic or platonic) where he changed himself for the other person, wanting to be perfect for them, but then realized that the person now loves this fake persona and not the real him. And it's crumbling because he can't hold this illusion any longer and his real personality is showing and now the other person is saying that it's not him, that he's changed, while it's just enforcing in him that this person never really loved him, they just loved the persona.
    As for the music video, there's a lot in it. It all has a meaning, including the snickers, but for you, as a beginner, I wouldn't attempt to get to the bottom of it right now. This music video is part of the BTS Universe and is part of an overarching story. Definitely don't try to watch explanation videos for this one or anything, because there were TH-camrs who did it and ended being really confused and thinking that a member killed their father or were abandoned by their mom in an amusement park, because I'm pretty sure that the explanation video doesn't specify that it's talking about a fictional story 😂. Furthermore, even veteran ARMY aren't fully sure about the whole story and there's a lot of theories about it, so yeah... 😂😂

    As a preliminary reaction you really get the gist of the music video but don't be fooled most of the time even if it sounds about love relationship of one person to another, they are actually talking about relationship with thy self.
    Fake love is part of BTS Universe or basically BU that has over arching storyline across several of their music videos.
    And there is a fake love extended version it is more of rock version,
    I think you would like it and you will like the video of it too though you will get more confused.🤣
    Since it is a overlapping context, the symbolism, and tying not only from other music video, but from notes , games and web novel contents that will give you headache. 🤣😂

    I’m only baby army from the beginning of the year and there a two things that stand out to me. 1st was the leader RM - he said, it doesn’t matter when you find BTS, whether you’ve followed from the beginning or only just recently, we’re grateful for the love & support. The other has been from multiple ARMY & the idea that we don’t find BTS, but BTS finds US at the time we need them and truer words have never been spoken. I was going thru a really tough time when one of their interviews showed up and I just randomly watched it. Without knowing any of their background or music, I fell for them hard. I could tell they were special 💜 strap in my dude, because the BTS rabbit hole is probably one of the deepest on TH-cam and when you truly get to see their personalities, you’ll want to protect them and help them fly higher. I’m proud to be part of such a wonderful and wholesome fandom! I PURPLE YOU ARMY & BTS 💜💜💜 ALSO, just to make this rant a little longer, the fact that BTS knows ARMY is intelligent to the point they put little clues in the MVs (they have a story line mv series too) so that we can try to decipher the song meanings is so much fun, they really love reading about the theories fans have about the MVs, even if we’re off, it shows them our creativity and brains. Not enough celebrities think about making people think and that is yet another charm, among many that they have, so share your thoughts, we love to hear them too!

    Keep in mind as well as you go thru your journey….bts has a fictional storyline that runs through many music videos, webtoons, short stories etc to create a full story. I just binged your BTS reactions and I love how your open and very insightful with your commentary (I’m going to have to check out your other videos too💜). Your xCeleste video reaction was interesting (it’s always cool to see new peoples point of view) and I think you would be interested in her BTS Hardships video as well. Especially after your review of Mic Drop so you can get some of the context of that song. Can I recommend another intro/explanation video- The Rise of Bangtan. It’s an amazing video series that follows their journey from pre debut (around 2010) til almost now. Because there’s so much content (around 20 albums and mixtapes in Korean, Japanese, and English all building on each other), this series compiles as much as possible to tell their story using their own words from years of vlogs/behind the scenes videos. This would be helpful to understand their journey and how music evolved. BTS are a true underdog story and it’s crazy to watch this tiny group that was considered destined to fail in Korea become one of the biggest bands in the world. If you do choose to watch it, it’s a bit of a long series (like 20 30min episodes) so maybe spread it out and make sure to watch to the end of the video bc there are bonus clips during the credits. Also the bonus and deleted scenes are also truly worth watching and don’t worry ARMY loooves long videos. As we say- you nice keep going💜💜💜

    "I'm Fine" on the wall flipped says "Save Me" two other songs on the same album. They always have other song references in their story songs. This song is more about fake loving yourself - accepting who you are and loving yourself. The story line continues from other story videos or mv's with the members having their own genre of being loved and loving yourself... We say we love ourselves but do we really. Every thing in the videos has meaning and is not wasted space... just like life.

    This song isn't just about a relationship towards girls. It pertains to any relationships like one with his/her parents, one with friends and even within yourself. It's easier to understand this mv when you know their BTS Universe Storylines which carry on album to album for years. Every background props (hands statues, water falls, fire, mirror, key hole, flower, even those candy bars - not because he likes candy bars so much) are detaily set there with purpose based on their storylines. Their dance movements match the background hands statues & symbolize "hear no evil, see no evil & see no evil".

    This video can be hard to understand because it’s pert of the Bangtan Universe, which is a fictional story line that runs through a few of BTS’s music videos starting from I Need You. Which can be hard to understand even if you’ve been watching from the beginning. Suffice to say, each of them (except Jungkook) has something in this video that reminds them of their BU Character’s trauma. Flowers, Shipping Container, cell phone, snickers bar, water, fire. The song itself is from the Album, Love Yourself: Tear. The middle album of the Love yourself trilogy, and which is entirely about how none of your relationships with others are going to work out if you can’t love yourself first, because you try to change yourself for other people rather than being brave and showing people the real you.

    Wowow! I started following your vids for twenty one pilots and mcr reactions and now you're getting into one of the most influential groups in my life! I got into bts about 5ish years ago, and when I found them, the trajectory of my life really changed forever (not an exaggeration). Before bts, I only listened to rock/alternative bands that I felt had great storylines/themes in their music (hence the twenty one pilots and mcr), but getting into bts really opened my eyes to so many new things and possibilities. The storylines in their albums and themes are really unmatched. I believe this so much that I even got a tattoo based on their Most Beautiful Moment in Life storyline. That might be for further down the rabbit hole but I do hope you eventually start getting into their official Bangtan Universe since I love hearing your analyses and enthusiasm about messages in music. It also makes you appreciate their music videos even more when you see all the connections to previous work and see how it expands upon the story they're trying to convey.
    This group has really touched my life so deeply and I would be a completely different person had I not stumbled across their videos on youtube one random day in 2017. There's a saying that army says a lot "You will find BTS when you need them the most" and that most definitely holds true for me. Excited to see you get into them more, especially as a pretty silent viewer of yours for a while now! 😁💜

    Late comment and very long but worth the read. I wanted to talk about the lore in the cinematic universe aka the Bangtan Universe. Fake Love is almost a summary of what was happening in the universe. (understand this is fictional, the members haven't actually been through what I'm going to point out)
    RM: he lived in a metal storage container and the handles are bus handles from a scene where he was riding the bus
    Jin: is the main character in this universe. You see him trying to protect the fictional Smeraldo flower, but when he tries to fix something, the world explodes. (multiple timelines are a huge part of the universe)
    Suga: After losing his mother and being depressed, he set his house on fire and watched it burn.
    J-Hope: His mother abandoned him at a carnival leaving him only a Snickers candy bar. That's what he's laying on in the room and you can see children's carnival toys in the background.
    Jimin: He is chronically depressed and tried to drown himself. So the water gushing in represents that feeling of drowning.
    Taehyung: He accidentally killed his abusive father and was arrested. He tried to call Namjoon for help but there was no answer. In the background you see graffiti that says "I'm fine" and flip it upside down it says "Save Me". Also, those are phones on the wall and they all say Save Me.
    And lastly Jungkook! JK is harder to understand what role he plays in the BU. At least in my opinion. The sand in his hands turn into the floating petals of the Smeraldo flower that was crushed in Jin's room explosion. He's running but never makes it where he's trying to go, and the wall opening up triggered all the other bad things to happen. Someone may be able to explain JK better.
    If you want to know more, check out xCeleste or Bookish Theories. They both cover the timeline and theories super well. Lastly. Fun fact! BigHit started the Bangtan Universe development because they said ARMY was consuming more content than they could keep up with and they wanted to keep us busy between schedules. Lololol

    BTS promote self love and being true to yourself throughout their music. And the bit where the floor falls away was real. Jungkook was running wearing a wire. You should watch BTS ROOM LIVE where each member is singing /rapping live and they do little snippets of various tracks from over the years. You will love it. (Look at the words Save Me in the m/v, it says I'm Fine)

    You should watch this th-cam.com/video/ZaOvpvw1NwA/w-d-xo.html it shows the making of the MV a lot of what you think are special effects are actually real sets. The song is about how we dont show our real faces to people in relationships and we are being "fake" it ties into the whole Love Yourself series. The fire, water etc are all tied into the "Bangtan Universe" which runs thru the storyline of many of their MVs so certain members are connected to different elements or things, this is a parallel universe there is a web toon and books about it and it runs very deep through roughly 4 to 5 years of their music.

  • @borreguitoazul
    @borreguitoazul 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The most interesting thing is that it not only refers to the love of a couple, but to any personal relationship.
    Kpop means Korean popular music, it is not pop itself but rather encompasses various genres such as pop, rap, rock, hip hop, EDM, R&B, trap, etc.
    In fact, BTS debuted as a hip hop idol group and over the course of their 9-year career they have shown how versatile they are by encompassing various genres even beyond those used in kpop.
    You stopped at the Save Me image, if you see it backwards it says I'm fine. These are two "sister" songs, Save Me was released in 2016 (has MV) and I'm fine in 2018 (no MV), as a response.

    Great reaction. One thing to help you out. While every song can be listened to and enjoyed individually you will find that BTS often has themes or a story that they are telling throughout a album or series of albums. You may not fully appreciate the meaning of songs without the full picture. Enjoy it anyway. 😉 There is an additional factor of a fictional storyline that runs though some of their music videos. This is one of those videos. Those videos normally have “BU” (Bangtan Universe) in the title. If you see things in the video that do not make sense to you, that could be the reason. I won’t spoil it, but it is amazing. It is another rabbit hole that you may choose to go down and enjoy eventually. Just another layer to the artistry BTS shows us.

    Fake love is 10/10 brilliant
    What's interesting is bts is big on self love and introspection and you can be fake towards yourself too and once you start to accept yourself and love yourself the fake love you present to the outside world changes
    Also big hit likes to stay away from CGI
    The behind the scenes shows you the rigs, camera rigs , relife sets and overlapping different shots to safely showcase like the fire element.
    Just something I thought might interest you ^_^

    Lee, With each video it is fun afterwards to watch the making of. Look at Save Me again in the video, and turn your head upside down. On a side note, few songs of BTS are about romantic love. And K-pop seems to be a term which has been invented by Westerners. A bit like calling every music in Britain in the 90’s Britpop. Doesn’t really work ! I’m 47 and loving this journey. Look forward to hearing more. Just subscribed ( also, yay Liverpool !) Thanks 🇬🇧

    Bts MV and title songs are usually made to be a hit, to be catchy or to be very visually appealing. We love them and it’s always a bop. But if you’re looking for something that is more deep lyrically, or more personal, I’ll definitely recommend listening to their B-sides (meaning songs in the album other than title tracks). These are the songs that really touch on the subjects that you’ve heard about, such as mental health, youth empowerment, self-love and their own raw/uncensored feelings. They have too many good and meaningful songs so it’s hard to choose which to start from. I can name hundreds of self-help songs by bts at the top of my head but it’s gonna be overwhelming for you😂 So I’ll just start by recommending “Zero O Clock” and “Paradise”. You can just search them up on TH-cam and click on the color coded lyric videos to react to its lyrics. The videos will usually show you which member is singing/rapping as well.

    I am sure someone has mentioned this already, but check out the explaination videos. These songs can be much deeper than they appear.
    Also because you like rap, ckeck out RM Joke, Do You; augst D ( Suga) the album, to be honest, I can't spell the Korean word. And of course all the cypher series, Ddaeng and Ugh , Ego Tear. There are many more.

    He loves this person, but he isn't being honest about who he really is. The love is fake because she loves someone who doesn't actually exist - the persona he's projecting. In another sense, the fake love is that he's been misleading himself about his own nature and not truly loving himself for who he is.
    Welcome to BTS, where every song is an onion and every layer is stunning in its beauty and meaning. What you're seeing in this video is a portion of what's called the BTS Storyline. That is a deep, complex but ultimately unbelievably rewarding rabbit hole, and I hope you take the plunge. You won't regret it.

    Kpop is more less a genre and more a conglomerate of things coming together, like the company puts a group together, the training period, the debut, the comebacks, the living together, the show they put out, is more of a performance package. Difficult to describe... The easiest would be is it's own music culture more than a genre of music

  • @kaerwyn

    You are exactly right at the end there. When you love someone so much, you change everything about yourself to make them happy, you become someone else and then one day realize you don't recognize yourself anymore, can that love be real if they are in love with the persona you created for them? Can't wait to see what you choose next. I hope you enjoy the rest of your week! Take care Lee.
