One of the best vids I've seen. I play piano and recently got into producing music and beats, and honestly this vid and similar content is what I need to go from currently being a loop maker, to making full beats. More like this pls, Thank you.
Because like a lot of people, I am self-taught, it's really helpful to watch videos like these and make sure I get the basics down. Seems obvious, but great refresher
When I started making beats I had the craziest drum patterns but as I learned more about the Art of leaving Room for the artists I started doing normal patterns very simple but works tbh check out dilly got it bumpin my man killing it using the same drum pattern landed 2 Joyner Lucas placements on the same album last year great video btw will definitely try some of these ideas especially the first one 💫💫💫
That's why ppl make beat tapes. There is a beat scene in hip hop you can make money off of. And artist need to have more musicality it's always something you can add to a beat.
Once again, thank you for using FL Studio for us, and 2, thank you for making this so plain to understand and not trying to show off something. A lot channels that talk about making "beats" are all flashy and trying to sell us something, you however, did it correctly and made drum patterns much easier to understand to someone like me that is self-taught and trying to learn more! Thanks!
I appreciate your help. I know a lot of these things but sometimes I forget or skip steps thinking im on track but at the end it feels off or flat or just not loud enough. Thanks again. 🤘🤘🤘💯💯💯
Awesome content! Thank you so much for sharing your professional Beat-making tips. Will definitely be implementing them in my future music productions. Much love and peace to you! 🙏🙏🎶🎹🎛🎧
thanks. i think drums can get a bit boring on a beat when making it. but as soon as you add the bass then the magic happens. I feel the bass is supporting the drums much better.
Hi Navie, I've recently come across you're videos and I have to say you're the best on the platform. I've been producing for a few years now and I've already learned so much from a few of your videos. I really enjoy your style and hopefully we can collab in the future. Big love brother!!!
This kind of ideas are the tutorials we (the people) need... To get out of the box a little bit and transcend the typical drum patterns and beats, to expand it in more creative ways
As always, amazing! I like how you also mentioned songs as an example for the patterns. I noticed you used the term 'Counter Balance', do you think you can make a video on that covering melodies and other aspects regarding it?
So I broke down and bought FL studio even tho I have 2 MPCs now. I don't regret getting them but some things are just faster in FL and there's a lot of limitations in MPC as far as mixing goes. The two work very well together though and for their own specific purposes. So I'll be checking out a lot more of your videos now that I'm in FL as my main DAW.
Hey Navie thanks for another great vid. I know you like xpand 2, have you found a way to use the piano roll velocity for it or do you just use automation/edit pattern for that?
@@NavieD Ahh okay. Yeah some patches work well for me but others don't respond to velocity at all :/. When this happens in other VSTs you can tinker it to get it working but the Xpand2 UI is pretty restrictive
thx for another good tutorial! One question, is there a way that you could split the drum on the piano roll into different channels like what you did at 2:47? I know i can split a pattern into channels but never knew if i could split those piano roll notes into different channels. Thank you and have a good day!!
So what I did in this video was just use FPC for the explanation, then actual different channels when showing them in the beat. I don't think you can split a piano roll amongst different channels, I could be wrong though Davie boy
Thank you for the great educational content! And would like to add that 3-3-2 pattern is also called Tresillo rhythm, very fundamental for african and south american music
Came here to sat the same. It's used on its own but is also forms the first component of the son clave pattern which is found all over South/Central American music and Caribbean music. It is fundamental to Cuban music for example.

Songs mentioned in the video:
Q-Tip - Breathe and Stop
Black Milk - Overdose
Azealia Banks - Heavy Metal and Reflective
Couldnt choose tbh, they all had their own cool feature
The second rhythm was the most interesting to me. But if I start experimenting down the line, I would prefer the first idea more.
Always startin’ classic, cause i was taught there needs to be a snare on the 2 and on the 4. Pretty outdated though 🥸
That Breathe and Stop Riddim never gets old for some reason.
