You know, what I love most about your videos is that you get straight to the point and you stay on it. You don't ramble, you don't joke around, you don't insert goofy animated faces or stupid sound effects or other distracting oddities I find in some other videos, and you don't try to be a comedian. It's all just useful information. Thank you for that!
Im new to FL studio and this has just cleared my thoughts. Most beginner tutorials just skip and say do this and that u can use this effects and plugins "as beginners" but this video is just pretty simple focusing on the basic but still able to thoroughly show without having to use much plugins which actually confuses me of their functions.
EDIT - I said the key way C major but it's actually D Dorian (Same notes but different root) Sorry for this but it's easy to make silly mistakes when the pressure of filming is on and I did all of this on the spot so didn't take the time to consider the scale properly. At the end of the day I just go by ear anyway but sorry for any confusion! Should I make more videos about arrangement and song structure?
This is an amazing tutorial. Most tutorials don't actually show you how to do anything, they're just basically a montage of someone using some expensive plugin to make a complex song. Even just the fact that you said which keys to press rather than just assuming we know everything about the DAW makes you a step above everyone else. amazing job!
After 5 years of making loops this has been the video that helped me finally tackle proper arrangement and songwriting. I literally have over 600 projects of which 95% are just small loops/ideas. And the rest are poorly arranged songs. I have some great ideas, just never had the motivation to continue any because I was lacking structure and at least a somewhat decent arrangement.

I have a LOT to learn from you. Been making music forever now. And while I have the skill necessary to execute my ideas on an instrument & am rarely low on ideas in terms of melodies, my technical prowess on the computer is very much lacking. I find that messing with the DAW, searching for plugins I want, trying to do mixing, mastering or other things of the like kills my creative enthusiasm as I feel like a blind, dumb baby much of the time. I'm happy that I found your channel is what I'm saying. Thank you for putting this out.
Someone said (I think Michael actually) to not bother mixing until the end, so I guess you might want to focus on your melodies first? As opposed to spending time looking for plugins and the overall sound/mix or whatever. This might help the motivation because the progress will come out differently.
This is a great tutorial for anyone (like myself) who may have poor organisation skills, maintaining structure which will affect time management when creating music. I watch this video & at times I'll tell myself, 'I know it already' because I've watched it before & may not want to. But I feel this is a small amount of time worth spending to avoid a feeling of disappointment in lost creations. I have lost many years with left over messy projects that went nowhere because of my own mental barriers that I had difficulty addressing. Now more aware of those barriers, when I make that 1st riff, I'll STOP! Then I'll make myself a cuppa. Then I sit back for 20mins, watch & listen to your video. Instead of allowing my hyperactive mindset I've suffered with most of my life, this has been so easy for my mindset to accept as the right balance of mental discipline I've needed for my music creative personally. Thank you for such a great simple video that I can focus on a simplified technique that has structured what is essentially now 'my studio time' 🙏🏼😊

Never automate the mixer volume! When you want to mix and master you track it can give trouble! You can better use fruity balance for this and controle the volume with that plugin.
lol no one using fruity loops actually mixes i kid i kid but yeah i learned that the hard way awhile ago in logic id use a simple gain plugin and automate that never automate the mixerat least not before mixing
@@thedevilsadvocate5210 What Oisin said... particularly with older versions of FL, if you don't have an automation to set the default volume at the start and you only have the one that changes your volume, you can go back to replay your track and it won't reset the volume to the default value.
Excellent tutorial I actually don't mix the song till I'm finished with the production I come from the school of thought that if it sounds good when it's in preproduction it will sound great when you clean it up in the mix. But there's many ways to skin a cat and I like your way of working.
Don't forget FL is always recording midi! Every one of those lead melodies was stored in the "dump score" tool! Great video showing how to keep moving on a track.
Amazingly well done and super helpful. Minor correction though (pun intended): The song is in D Dorian. Same notes as C Major but the root note is D not C and it sounds completely different. It’s a minor key.
Dude I was honestly floored when you reached the point of playing along with it. When you got to the point of talking about finding a lead, and you just hit a moment of groove, and you were like: "Yea like that" That felt very genuine, and man it sounded good and felt good to watch that happen lmao.

Im a game designer / UI designer your videos has helped me alot to get into FL studio, i needed to learn how to implement (ambisonic soundfields) into game engines, couldn't eve add a track before i started looking@ your videos. Moving over from writing drum corps music and branching out to other things, this is very helpful, seeing how other genres are made, and trying to wrap my brain around that I won't be handing my music to people to perform. Respect.
This is a perfect video for this process. I did a video on making a track with BPM Create samples but I didn't go into how to expand your loop to make a full track to keep the video short. This video covers that!
This is literally so good, was watching so many videos and felt so lost, but i just had to find out, that it is not my style of explanation. You just go straight to the point and i appreciate that very much!

Never automate the mixer volume! When you want to mix and master you track it can give trouble! You can better use fruity balance for this and controle the volume with that plugin.
Yep good idea bro thanks
Why will you get trouble with track automation on the volume?
The Devil's Advocate you will be thinking you’re changing the volume but replaying will return to what the automation is at
lol no one using fruity loops actually mixes
i kid i kid but yeah i learned that the hard way awhile ago in logic id use a simple gain plugin and automate that never automate the mixerat least not before mixing
Great video showing how to keep moving on a track.
damn dude, this was phenomenal. I feel really encouraged to start learning on my own. Thank u so much!
Amazingly well done and super helpful. Minor correction though (pun intended): The song is in D Dorian. Same notes as C Major but the root note is D not C and it sounds completely different. It’s a minor key.
This triggered my OCD so bad while watching
Thanks for the correction. It's easy to make mistakes when filming!
Laryguy LMAO IM DEADD 😂😂
It is not a key it is a mode

Dude I was honestly floored when you reached the point of playing along with it.
When you got to the point of talking about finding a lead, and you just hit a moment of groove, and you were like: "Yea like that"
That felt very genuine, and man it sounded good and felt good to watch that happen lmao.
why the hell aren't u charging for this type of help ......freaking dope man this could help anyone who needs help getting started
organized is a thing that so many producers don't have, including myself.
I would say we all got our own organized mess 😂
Dj Pazer Lol yeah that's what happens.
Dj Pazer Yea 😂😂
Love you man. Im a game designer / UI designer your videos has helped me alot to get into FL studio, i needed to learn how to implement (ambisonic soundfields) into game engines, couldn't eve add a track before i started looking@ your videos. Now i day later well i kind of have a understanding how to add tracks and instruments works, I never went into music i went into drawing so Thank you. You are giving me knowledge for free. i wish you a happy 2021 and stay strong.
Wow.. Really helpful.. thank you very much!
It's a treat to see this explained so well. Not only do you have the skill to do it, but also to communicate what you are doing and why. Subbed. 🎵👾🎵
Moving over from writing drum corps music and branching out to other things, this is very helpful, seeing how other genres are made, and trying to wrap my brain around that I won't be handing my music to people to perform. Respect.
Am I the only one who wants this song to be released?

Love the synths - try "paradise lost - one second" :)
Dude how will music schools feel about you revealing shortcuts? ;) Great video my man.
You made this video before I even owned my first drum machine but holy cow this video speaks to an issue I've struggled with for years. Thanks bro
addictive keys: The piano I trust

I was looking for this for so long!

I find your tutorials so useful and something that really helps me is that you always mentioned the shortkeys. Thanks mate!!
Somewhere along I forgot to follow through with the tutorial and started jamming.

Tell your friends that most songs are.
This is a perfect video for this process. I did a video on making a track with BPM Create samples but I didn't go into how to expand your loop to make a full track to keep the video short. This video covers that!
I have 50 unfinished projects since December 2019 when I started with producing music
wanna work together?

Nah... doesn’t sound like it.
I simply cannot explain the pain from the laugh I just let out after going to this timestamp. Priceless!!!
This is literally so good, was watching so many videos and felt so lost, but i just had to find out, that it is not my style of explanation. You just go straight to the point and i appreciate that very much!
His accent has somethig to it...but it's just so cool!
I know right! It makes you LISTEN
Did you know?, if you went to Scotland, in particular his home city or town; he wouldn't have an accent anymore. You would have an accent.
