    It's crazy how upcoming "producers" are not running this video up. So many educational life changing gems just in this one video. Sadly, most upcomers start out doing just about anything with no regard for basics. Literally spent the whole day

      808 is a drum machine. Ask me what you wanna know and I'll answer you. But most likely you're looking for "slides" and "mono/legato"

      I like to, as someone with a background in drumming, approach it with funk. If you know how to do funk, do that and make it more like your bassdrum is hyperactive. To get a good starting point, I'd suggest Commodores' Brick House and RHCP's Give It Away. It might not help you as much with those unnatural hihat rolls, but it definitly helps with the bassdrum

      1. Find an example of a drum pattern you like
      2. Download it and drag it into your DAW
      3. Isolate a full loop and cut it at the start and finish
      4. Adjust the tempo to fit the song
      5. Use the grid to see which hits go where
      6. Voila, you can now replicate any drum pattern

Note that most music with real drums will not have a completely consistent tempo, so you will notice the hits lining less and less up with the grid the longer you make the sample. So with those, at least for the sake of learning how to make them, I'd recommend slicing the clip into as few hits as possible.

    This is a wonderful "whole workflow" resource, including the actual sounds you used. Great tutorial, Nick.
    I like Splice sounds a lot, but I wish that the search engine was better (especially with so many sounds) and that you could do boolean operator and phrase searches to narrow down results.
