  • The two British Leyland promotional films I used in my edits: Sahara South and A Car For All Reasons. Both were produced circa 1970. Not monetised because I do not own copyright so these films and therefore this post maybe temporary if I am asked to remove them.
Welcome to "4xoverland" channel. The world's first and leading global 4WD adventure motoring channels. The title of this video is "SAHARA SOUTH and A CAR FOR ALL REASONS. For Range Rover-philes | 4xOverland"

New range rover vs old range rover.
Range Rover is a type of Land Rover model. The Range Rover lineup consists of four models: the Range Rover, the Range Rover Evoque, the Range Rover Sport, and the Range Rover Velar.

Brilliant. How life has changed...woman smoking in the car...and then I heard 10000 years ago the mountains were forests...and 3000 years later...it all changed. Wonder what the emissions were that time? 🤷‍♂️
You are brilliant in what you do.

We did Sahara crossing in 1978 by a convoy of Range Rover, Land Rover and a modified FJ40. Range Rover was what it was advertised point by point. Loved the vehicle since then.

Obviously no roof load limits back then , how did we ever survive growing up back in the 60s and 70s as kids I remember being jammed into the back seat of a Ford Cortina with 4 others kids and a dog on a regular basis you would get locked up for that now , how things have changed. Thanks for putting this video up Andrew

The Range Rover classic changed the game entirely and the 4wd/SUV world has never been the same.
I still believe the original model to be amongst the most beautiful cars ever built.
You can see how this original concept has now carried over into the new Defenders, right or wrong.
I personally think that things have now gone too far over into the luxury segment, although admittedly that’s a personal choice for the buyer.
However, you could thrash those early Range Rovers off road and many readily did so.
Nobody in their right mind would take a 2021 Rangie into the Tenere today.
    Sad.

The Range Rover Sahara trials 1969....Had the experience of working in Southern Algeria with Minitrek the company responsible for the ground logistics, a couple of seasons later. They had built up a wealth of experience leading expedtions in this part of N Africa and were the company to contact for this Range Rover hot weather testing. They had close ties with Solihull, the workshop manager being an ex employee of the "experimental dept" at rover. Many of their fleet of Series 3`s had non standard transmissions,
fitted by Solihull for testing.Last watched this film in 1974,So glad it has reappeared.

Great trip down memory lane! I loved the Range Rover and followed its development and evolution, but could never afford one. I ended up settling for a base model (ex Gov) 81 FJ45 in the mid 80's . I loved that troopie for 20 years and so did my nephew for another 10. I never lost that fascination for the original Range Rover even today!

I remember the very first Range Rover I ever saw in 1970/71 , blue, think it was Tuscan Blue, first one in Inverness Shire at the time apparently, very very different from anything else at the time and since, even my Dad’s S11A which I loved as I got to drive it around the dirt roads. Later they became a much more common sight but still quite intriguing although still quite practical and workman like, certainly compared to later Rangies!
