- SUV off-roading videos don’t get much better than this!
We’ve got our hands on a second-hand Range Rover, BMW X5 & Porsche Cayenne, and we’re about to put them to the test over a series of treacherous off-road challenges!
So let’s see how the three stack up. Starting with Mat in the Cayenne, it’s powered by a 4.5-litre V8 that’s good for 335hp and 420Nm. The BMW X5 is next up, with a tasty 4.4-litre V8 that can deliver 286hp and 440Nm. And then finally we have the Range Rover, which is packing a 3-litre diesel that can put down 175hp and 390Nm.
Given the age of the cars, we were able to get them for a bit of a bargain, spending just £5,000 across the three of them. So of course, you know what that means… We weren’t exactly that gentle with them!
The question is, will all of these legendary SUVs make it to the end of the video?! You’ll need to stick with Mat and Yianni to see for yourself!

I hope they have a budget as huge as topgear then we get like a 90 minute long special episodes doing challenges in different parts of the world.

I haven't watched TG in years, because it's cr*p. I watch Matt et al regularly, because it isn't.
The reality is that you don't need to have a bunch of toffs talking cr*p about cars to make good TV, you just need a bunch of guys who are more interested in the subject than their own egos.

Although cayenne won by a margin anyways, imagine how bigger margin would be if only Mat found small air suspension knob to the left of him, default for on pretty much every cayenne, which lifts it to 270mm off the ground xD
I offroad with my cayenne (its a 958 so a lot newer), and mine has steel shocks. air only comes standard on the higher trims, unless optioned. regardless, for its size its an extremely fun and capable machine, even without air ive rarely ever had any clearance issue. going forward i will definitely be looking for one optioned with air, although they're highly sought after. hands down the best offroader ive owned.
The funny thing is the cameras attached to the cars (some of which were destroyed/damaged during filming) are probably more expensive than the cars themselves

Yeah but fair ones. Lots of people pointing out how he's always helping LR in these challenges by some sketchy methods. He needs to accept we've spotted it and start being fair. The only other manufacturer he is fair to on these vids is Suzuki, which are brilliant offroad yes but he puts Toyota and all them at disadvantages in these vids and it's getting hard to watch as it's so blatant.

I watch Mat but I'm under no illusions. He's been caught pulling every stunt in the book on these 4x4 vids and they all seem to favour one brand LR. Anyone who rates an RR higher than an LC off road needs taken with a pinch of salt. Besides the blatant LR shillery he is only fair to Suzuki in the other vids.. and he tries very hard to make sure Toyota vehicles are always at a disadvantage tyre wise or 4wd package wise. He's not long compared an older LC with the most basic powertrain package and worn road tyres against a brand new RR full package and aftermarket tyres. Also downhill decent gets you into trouble on green lanes, it gets you stuck if the decent is really rough and the surface has enough rough areas to stop the car. I don't know anyone that uses it and anywhere it would be needed like towing stuff down an incline it's deactivated. Total pointless gimmick as your foot on the brake does a way better job so I've no idea why it's even in a 4x4 offroad test.

Came to the comments for this, others were using brute power to overcome the obstacles and the RR was left helpless, still a fun video through...
Plus if he raised the suspension earlier lol.
Range Rover would’ve easily won with a V8, plus the air suspension wasn’t in its full setting for a lot of the video, momentum was necessary for half this course.
Its still the most capable car here.

This is so unfair for the range rover. You've bought the smallest engine for it, the smallest gearbox for it, the cheapest tires for it and for the rocky hill climb, he had a tiny run up unlike the other cars
Clearly not a scientific test, more for entertainment. It achieved that. If I were going off road, I’d take the L322 every time!

I was thinking the same thing, how come the bmw got points on the last race if it didn't finish, also the up the hill the land rover guy didn't have room to speed up while the other two did
If the Rangie had the run up, up that hills (the first one was driver error), the others had, that would have changed the results !!
With more speed ( and better tires would help too) the range would have no problem with the uphill challenges.

"Brilliant offroading???" Rover won hands down. I have done than stuff like that with a Volkswagon Beetle. I didnt see much " finesse" You can get over most obstacles with with enough speed and stupidity. But the rover will drive home, others will need repairs first.
As I don't own a rr I'm confused that some people praise its capability and some joke about its unreliability

@@amritmahotsav3378 As a first time owner of an RR I cant really answer that. Mine has been good, with no more issues than I would have on any 15 year old vehicle. In my opinion people are trying to do repairs on the cheap and without proper troubleshooting, knowledge and tools. They are a unique vehicle, standard practices do not apply and short cuts generally lead to more failures. However that being said I was referring to the ability of each vehicle in the video, It could have been a 4runner, Jeep , or pickup instead of an RR. Both the Porsche and the BMW had to be abused to make it thru the challenge and required repairs before they could be driven home. The RR could have left and driven home without repairs had they not torn the front bumper by pushing the Porsche. The BMW and Porsche are out of their element, similar to using a Beetle for the challenge. With enough speed and stupidity it would complete the course but also have finished with damage. Requiring repairs to be made before being able to drive home. Just because it has 4WD does not make it suitable for off road use.

These are probably high mileage and trashed beyond any economical reason to fix them. Electronics and suspension are crazy expensive to fix.
@@puciohenzap891 used cars are much cheaper in UK than mainland Europe, because only uk and Ireland drive on the wrong side and their used cars are not in demand in other european countries, also are quite wealthy nations and many peoples just buy brand new ones
