    I'm stuck between the two honestly. His death was insane and a fitting end for the madman who tried to rip everything away from Kaiba and Yugi, but on the other hand he's so iconic, it's always a huge treat when he shows up again, and it's interesting to see him use his wealth and knowledge for good after seeing all the cruelty he did

    I did know about it, but I’ve always rejected that reality. I have always felt keeping him alive did a better job of portraying what Millennium Items do to people who possess them, especially since Atem changes for the better over time it makes it feel like a Bakura thing almost to those who haven’t finished the series.
    Keeping Pegasus alive and showing who he is without the Item corrupting his brain reminds you of the stakes at play.

    • @Ramona122003
      @Ramona122003 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      Except we meet Ishizu in the very next arc who was a Millennium Item user who was firmly good. Same with Shadi if he was extremely ruthless.

    • @DindellaTheDefender
      @DindellaTheDefender ปีที่แล้ว +33

      @@Ramona122003 , this is true, but Ishizu is a reincarnation of someone who was trained to use a Millennium Item, and even if she wasn't she was still trained to use one in the present day.
      Marik and Pegasus are two great examples of what grief and trauma can do to someone who comes into contact with an Item, and the many ways it can warp your personality.
      In the manga, at least, Shadi's ruthlessness is explained. Season 0, which you can actually find here on TH-cam, is actually pretty faithful to the original introduction in the Manga. Much like the Ishtars, Shadi's role is to protect the Millennium Items but also to guide/protect the souls of Pharaohs and to judge the souls of those who wish to disturb them. He's complicated, but it's a lot harder for the audience to gauge the effects of the items from him.

    • @Ramona122003
      @Ramona122003 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      @@DindellaTheDefender Marik's issues started long before he touched Millennium Rod given that he created a split personality year prior. All the rod did was enable him further. Also, Ishizu went through similar BS and still was good with her Millennium Item.
      Shadi is ruthless, cold, and murders people in the manga (granted the people he did kill were jerks), but he's firmly on the side of good, especially if you considered DSOD.
      Overall, Pegasus is the only one you can point in being corrupted by a Millennium Item. Which works since the Millennium Eye was corrupted by the Thief King to brainwash Aknadin.

      @@SmashBros2009 By the time it was out GX was already airing. Plus before Dark Side of Dimensions none of the anime followed the manga's story, so showing Pegasus dead would be confusing, while if he isn't dead Yako's motivation needs to be completely rewritten, which to be fair they've already done with Otogi/Duke. I think it just came out too late to be adapted.

      I really want them to go ham and adapt all the mangas because they are destinct enough(Yes, even the original manga. The Duel monsters-anime changed a lot of stuff) and it would just be cool to see.

    • @alexanderrobins7497
      @alexanderrobins7497 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      It would be interesting to see it start from Season 0 too. Duel monsters is a cool and fun game, but it gets dull when that is literally the only thing people do in that universe. Hardly a mention of deciding what cards to side in/out either.

      @@alexanderrobins7497 Honestly, I still really wonder how the Toei anime would have progressed if it hadn't been cancelled.
      Because even tho the broad strokes were the same, almost all of the concrete mainstory-details were either completely made up or altered.(aka. even the DM anime with half of it being filler was more in-bounds in some regards)
      Heck, I personally often think about what my own spin on the series in a remake would be. It can really be fun to brainstorm.

    Very hard to decide, him dying in such a gruesome way is a devastating, yet fitting end to his character. Given all the chaos he caused in his attempts to gather all the Millenium Items to revive his lost loved one. Not only that, but it adds more evil to Yami Bakura's character, ripping the Millenium Eye from Pegasus' head and killing him. On the other hand, Pegasus is such an incredible character, whenever we see him again, it's always such a joy. I especially loved watching him in GX, as he redeems himself a bit by befriending Jaden and being a positive influence when he makes his rare appearances. He's such a symbolic character for Yugioh, I understand wanting him to live. It's tough, but I'm glad we have an anime alternative where he lived. Let him die in the manga and those who enjoy the gruesomeness of it and read it there, those who want it a little more light hearted can enjoy it in the anime, so in a sense they chose both options.

    As much as I like the manga for being darker and this is a pretty dark moment, I think I prefer how the anime kept him alive. As creator of duel monsters, the anime team saw he could be a useful character for down the line in the story and in the filler and movie they made good use of him. I don’t like killing off or removing a character when they could still have some value left to the story and I think the manga probably killed him too early.

    I could go either way on Pegasus being kept alive or not. I think that it could have been sort of interesting for world building if he died and there was an in-universe explanation on KaibaCorp taking over marketing and R&D for Duel Monsters as a bit of trivia for why the game's rules and artistic direction sort of shifted from the early days, but really that would just be a "huh neat" thing and Pegasus has some good appearances in anime-exclusive stuff (mostly just his GX cameo episode).

Same goes with how KaibaCorp developed the Solid Vision technology and duel disks. On top of KaibaCorp having the rights to use Industrial Illusions' IP in Kaibaland.

    I love Yu-Gi-Oh so much for the fact that none of it's characters have died throughout the whole series. That makes the show so much more suitable for kids, unlike todays animes.
