For real. The Atlantis game looks straight up good at times, and the Treasure Planet PS2 game has some top tier visuals as well. They had some black magic over at Disney Interactive.
20:50 Mad Respect to you for including Battle at Procyon! The game was amazing... just the fact that they sat down and created three extended factions with foul playable ships in the style of Treasure Planet none of which were in the movie was beyond amazing
The “cereal pack in Atlantis game for a sleeper agent” bit made me laugh out loud. Great work as always. I love how you contextualize these games and can appreciate them for the time they were released (a scratched disc inexplicably found at a daycare center) as well as their value in today’s gaming landscape.
Man, funnily enough there was a cereal sweepstakes for Treasure Planet, I don't remember which one, probably Cinnamon Toast Crunch or something and you had a choice between the PS1 or PS2 version if you won. A letter came in the mail stating I won and my mother took it upon herself to write back and asked me which one I wanted, the PS2 version of course, for my shiny new PS2, I don't know how but she put PS1 instead of PS2 and I was absolutely pumped to receive it, came in the mail like 2 weeks later aaaand it was the PS1 version, I was like 7-8 at the time and I remember being devestated, lmao. But I didn't wanna upset my mom so I just played the shit out of it anyways, ON MY PS2. 🤣 Seeing this video brought back some fond memories. Thank you, sir.
The transition from Barbossa to the slowass sailing had me in stitches. 😄 That Trial by Fire game, damn... I actually remember it being advertized at a book store next to the theater I watched the movie at. Never even realized that guy on the cover was Milo, lol. Looked dope af, but I wasn't stupid enough to believe my folks would buy it for me (not that I can blame them, I had a habit of quickly giving up on games I was originally desperate to get once I found them too hard/scary so they didn't want to waste more money on me).
Man, PS1 Disney games were something special. They weren't the best platformers out there, but they also weren't horrible lazy tie-ins like movie games usually are. I especially loved The Emperor's New Groove game when I was a kid.
You're a very good voice actor, really sound like most of the characters and the Guardin Slug was the best bit. I'LL SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE!!!! SPIT ON YOUR GRAAAAAAAVE!
Oh my god! Someone FINALLY brings up Search for the Journal, nobody has talked about it on TH-cam before and I thought it was some fever dream I had had. xD I remember the demo of Battle for Procyon too, it was so bare bones compared to the actual game even for a demo.
I respect the effort that went into lifting the "Uncut Gems" Sandler line. I've wanted to use soundbytes from modernish movies too and I don't have the patience to torrent them into my device and screen grab them. Good on ya
I was expecting things to end at the PS1 atlantis game and then BOOM you pull out Trial by Fire a game talked about so little when thinkin of that movie i either didnt know about it or i forgot THATS the sort of shit i want to see people cover more. AND LOOK AT THAT Battle of Procyon mentioned ? Shit like that is what i respect highly
Treasure Planet and Atlantis by far awesome findings in terms of animation films, I want to see one in the same style in the future one day. Glad to see these films get their recognition that deserve. Hopefully I can play the videogames one day.
As a kid I had Atlantis search for the lost journal, and I can only remember that it would never run properly and would always crash before it got to any game play. Those few screens that you showed were so nostalgic to me.
I have looked for a video of someone covering that Atlantis game so many times and there’s nothing out there! Thank you so much for covering this game, I loved it as a kid and have great memories of playing it after school with my mum and beating the game together
one thing that i found interesting with Atlantis the video game is the existence of the lava whale creature that we see in the direct to DVD sequel of the movie. It makes me think that the animal design was already completed within the first film and only waited to be used later down the line or that im forgets that the lava whale was already in the first film.
Jesus christ, I can't believe you still aren't past like 250k subs minimum at this point; your content has been nothing but consistent bangers, pretty much from the beginning, too. Props man.
0:23 Ah yes. Ken Lavine's masterpieces from Disney. It's so sad to see both of his beloved works did not get enough attention upon release. I blame Michael Eisner for not giving much advertisement to those masterpieces. No one would have guessed how much good family fun the two Bioshocks truly was for Disney's catalogue until years later.
I also associate these movies inextricably with The Road to El Dorado, Titan A.E., and Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas. El Dorado also had a PS1 game, and Titan A.E. had a demo release before the full game was cancelled. Edit: And Sinbad got a PC game.
@@brytilaar I had never heard of these movies, but they look interesting. I looked them up, and Once Upon a Forest got a point-and-click adventure game, and Jungle Creature Hugo got a 2D platformer. Both were released for DOS and are available to download digitally and play online for free since they are out of print. They don't look as good as the Treasure Planet and Atlantis games, but...well, they're something, I guess.
This was a super good intro to your channel. I was not expecting the slug scene or the call backs to it haha. I legit replayed those parts a few times. Thanks 🙏
Fun fact: there are actually unused files for a Treasure Planet world in Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance. It seems to have been cut early on, as the only map left in is a roughly shaped untextured pirate ship
I recently rewatched Atlantis and discovered it had an alternate opening where a group of Vikings find the Shepherds Journal and are attacked by The Leviathan and I just realised why you shouldn't comment before watching the whole video
I used to play atlantis in the kids room at the pub my mum would spend her weekends at. Damn i struggled with this as a little kid. But this game had a certain feel to it that I've never experienced again.
I never actually knew that Atlantis CD ROM was an entire game. I had it as a kid and never got past the first snow level, so I figured it was just a demo for a full game that never came out. I was spooked enough by the completely empty, soul-crushing snow level, I doubt I could have stuck around for the entire game.
Super dank subject, super fresh video. Love the recurring slug thing. I was alost expecting the treasure planet cereal box PC game(s) to be featured. I played the shit out of the TP space boat racing game I got from a cereal box.
I only just discovered your channel because I was looking for information on the Mattel Hyperscan for a joke, but I am glad I found it. If only because I am now aware that the greatest video game character of all time is "Slug Guard from Disney's Atlantis" 🤣🤣🤣 Definitely subbing!
The slug bit was like one of the older, classic Family Guy cutaway gags that everyone remembers. I always wanted to try the PS2 Treasure Planet game, but never got around to it. I'll keep it on my to-do list. So, what's next on the docket? More undervalued licensed gems, or is it time to get back to some good ol' fashioned trash? How about licensed games that nobody would expect to ever exist like that Napoleon Dynamite game?
I somehow ended up with 2 copies of Treasure Planet PS1 so I may have every copy in the world. Treasure Planet is charming. Not ground breaking or anything but it's a lot of fun as a 2 hour romp. I also did have Atlantis but didn't get very far. The low poly crabs that sidesteps gunshots are a highlight.
As a fellow TPBAP aholic i can confirm this game is fun on its skirmishes and a very fair veiw on the travel sequences. a thought tough, could you do a full review of Treasure Planet Battle At Procyon. its the most underrated game on steam that can be played with multiplayer now. and mods... _the rudder has been destroyed, steering lost!_
Knew Battle at Procyon was gonna get featured in the video. Never saw the movie but played this game when I was a kid, and as you mentioned I found it amidst my dad’s stuff. Absolutely great game
Junko is single handedly preserving those classic youtube reviews we all knew and loved. Kepp up the good work man. Just found your channel but i already appreciate you 😅 classic jontron vibes for sure
damn its been years since i seen anything about this game lol last time i remember playing it was on the PS1 or PS2 and i was on like the deck of a ship or something doing stuff and then the ice-cream man came i think and we got ice-cream and then some happen to my nail at the time and that then was painful but fell off
Battle At Procyon was given out I belive in some mcdonalds promos as a demo CD. I recall being very excited for it as a kid. I played the demo countless times.
Haven’t watched this yet but I want to say I’m so happy someone is finally talking about the Atlantis game I played it recently and thought it was awesome!
When i was a kid my friend had that ps1 Atlantis game and we would try to predict which character was going to unlock and a running gag was the old lady who smokes a lot. I suggested that she would blow stinky puffs of smoke as a special attack lol.
Yes, the cereal pack-in! My experience consisted entirely of the CD telling me to get a GameSpy account, barely installing, and then failing to run. It's good to finally find out how it played!

I actually had both of the PS1 games when I was a kid, not sure how I would like them now but as a kid they were both great. As for the rest of them, never knew they existed but look pretty cool
I don't want to be THAT guy, but you've missed the three treasure planet games that were released by McDonald's: Treasure Racer, Broadside Blast and Etherium Rescue (as well as Ship Shape, which only unlocks if you get all three). Literally unwatchable. On a serious note, it's just so weird and great we got as many games as we did, even though Disney set the movie up for failure. I would have loved a sequel set in the same universe but with another main cast, something like an adaptation of Jules Verne books or other works. We got Treasure Island, what about 20.000 Leagues in Deep Space or Around the Galaxy in 80 Days? There is so much potential in the setting of Treasure Planet... Hopefully we don't get a live action remake, that would be most likely extremely disappointing.
There was going to be a sequel for this one, with Willem Dafoe as the villain Steelbeard, but it was canceled mid production. Which is too bad, because it had potential to be memorable 😕. And I'm planning to propose a Treasure Planet remake for me to direct for Disney as soon as I get experience on filmmaking, you know 😅... I even have some ideas of my own for it, from having the Jonathan Young version of I'm Still Here playing in the movie instead of the one from Johnny Rzeznik, to have Florence Pugh as Captain Amelia and Colin Hanks as Dr. Doppler, and stuff 😄. I mean, I love this animation with all my heart, I think it deserves the greatest remake that it can possibly be, and I'd try to be as faithful as possible to the animation while putting my own style to it in some places 🤗.
0:23 I don't know whether it's silly or genius that you put Atlantis in Bioshock and Treasure Planet in Bioshock Infinite. That's some 4D-level thinking. Also, the slug saga was unexpectedly perfect.
