- Bracket Style Compound Comparison! Rupes XC-2, Koch Chemie H901, Xtreme Knockout, Oberk Supreme Cut! In this video, we compare modern cutting compounds just like we did years ago bracket style. Most of us want a car with paint that’s a rich colour with a clear, glossy shine. But over time it’s easy for the paint finish to become damaged and dull, marred with scratches and swirl marks. On older cars, oxidation causes the paint finish to become dull and chalky. A cutting or rubbing compound is an abrasive material suspended in a paste that is used to restore car paintwork. It can polish out paint scratches and remove old and oxidized paint to reveal fresher paint underneath. Lets compare the four top, modern cutting compounds.
These compounds can be found on Amazon.

@@tundrawhisperer4821 😜😜😜the thing is that all of them depend on the panel and some that work on hard clear coat not necessarily work the same on soft clear coat. Same on black paint some work better than others. Pinpointing one to do all is really not as simple as that. You gotta try them on a spot of the surface in order to get the best results and that cannot be just one product. If you don't know how to detail then you will not know this.
It’s been a while since you’ve done a video like this. I like seeing the newer products.
Anyone else arm hurt after watching Brian’s arm vibrate around!!! Great video as usual. I have always liked your comparison videos!!!
I noticed that also, was wondering if the pad was on off center. It must just be the Flex gear driven polishers characteristics. It seems people either love or hate them.
yes the vibration looked nasty. I am not a fan of most Flex tools - I've used their LG1704 VR and L3406 VRG stone grinders with my dynabrade rotary to DA adaptors and their monsters but the XFE is gutless and either the corded or cordless XCE is not that great either. but just my view.
@@mattsmagicdetailtechaustralia Interesting. Brian's test stand was loose causing the hood to shake also.
@@williambell7712this is my personal you tube account. Yes when im testing for manufacturers or myself (pad development testing) i get that problem often. My stands due to be replaced its knackered, regards matts magic detail tech
Very interesting. It'll be fun to see how they stack up. Thanks for doing this series. Appreciated Brian
Koch Chemie H9
Also, to this test to be relevant I would do it like this:
1. Surface would be sanded with a DA sander just to be uniform
2. If I use a cutting compound I would use a dedicated cutting pad.
Really enjoy series like this. Can't wait for further testing. No surprise on the kotch chemi. 🏆🇨🇦
Great video!!! Thanks Brian!!
3D one. Love these videos
Nice video!! Nice test design & reviewing comment methods. You teach me me a lot of things Sir!
Great video Brian! Can’t wait for the next one. Thank you!!
Brian i gotta say you are the damn man! i have just finished a coating using bc7 and icing. By far the best looking coating i have ever done and i have done tons! We avg 3-5 per week and have used basically every coating on the market. Nothing compares to this combo.. I have been a CP elite dealer and have never used anything better than bc7 and icing.. Icing is on a whole other level compared to anything on the market
Thanks, Brian! Love this type of video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very interesting results..can't wait for the outcome 👍🏻
Amazing video and product comparison good friend
G'day Brian. Koch Chemie cuts extremely quickly. not that I have any now but my preference is to use H9 with F6 at 75/25 mix and on single stage paints rather than clear coats. Having just removed 800 grit marks with a silk pad via DA, a flocked fiber pad on DA in another area and a third section with the chris larson wool pad and metabo PE 15 -20 rotary with a water based single polish system I've used since 2010, I think that with CSI Ceram XX now out from tom horvath that compounds days may come to an end eventually or be only needed rarely. I'm working on a couple of pad materials that have never been used in our industry before and one between velvet and wool in cut rate but very low heat generation, no marring on mid-hard to hard paints and great clarity most often. 1500 grit gone in one pass over an area at speed 2 on DA and barely any pad wear after 15 hours of testing and dozen of hand cleans with a stiff brush and warm water. Anyways I love your videos and what you bring to the table for the industry. PS I agree about 3D - love 3D One and 520. 510 I had to improve the viscosity by adding 10% of Nanolex optimizer to inside the bottle to make it go from a separated looking paste type emulsion to a beautiful creamy formula permanently. great product. regards Matt - 30 year detail industry veteran and pad fanatic.
The best is ingrams, nothing can beat that. I've been using for 6 years never looked back.
Thanks for this video. Try next time first on 800 marks and up because those deep marks need fresh compounds.
Once again, thanks for this video
Can't say I have a favorite.
I give Wolfgang's Uber compound 7out 10. Seems to be a bridge between modern and old style formulas
Hey Brian, it looks like Biz is doing very well. Just wanted to say hello and check in on ya.
Thanks for this going to be cutting my bmw e60 black soon 🥰
We already have the first guest for the workshop...who saw the mouse escape through the hole 5:23
They are crafty.
AGREED on ur choices
Like u said havent had 1 in quite some time
We would like to see the new Menzerna cut force pro,
and how the older Angelwax compounds still stoud on the competition
And some Nasiol compounds very popular in Europe
Id like to see if mckee's beast compound can hang. It makes some bold claims..
I bought the 3d aca510 after watching your review of it. It's been a game changer for me. I recently bought a couple of cutting compounds from Mirka Abrasives. The manufacturer claims that the polarshine 45 can correct p600 scratches and the polarshine 35 can correct p800 scratches. I haven't tried them yet but would be great if you could do a review of these products or if anyone here in the comments could tell me their experience using them.
Koch chemie 💯
3D 1
Koch chemie hc9.02 is amazing, and I mean amazing, great fast cutter, I'm kinda not used to such fast cutting from a compound, it's oily enough, it's not dusting, it doesn't stuff my pads. I love it but I am still learning it's fast cutting time. I didn't used 9.01 though. My fav until now was Sonax (all of their polishes and compounds). I bought Gold standardbut haven't used it yet, never used a spray polish. Also 3D One is very cool, an oily bastard, but I like it, long working time. I'm just thinking now though: is it safe for the trim? 🤔
Some of the Labo products seem like they need their instructions followed but, they win for marketing
WHY? MORE THIN MORE SOFT??? BECAUSE IT IS "MORE CHEAP" FOR THE INDUSTRIES 😂 THANK YOU FOR UPDATE, THIS IS NEEDED 👍
Would have liked to seen an IPA wipe and then inspection/evaluation in case any of them had filler agents.
None of these 4 have filling capabilities. 3D Has minor filling.
You should be using some panel prep to remove oils/fillers prior to inspection. Koch is known for using a waxy lubricant system which also happen to act as a filler
I believe he used a towel dampened with rinseless wash.
@@williambell7712 good point
Koch chemie works awesome with rotary also
Absolutely.
Have you tried the last revision (revision #5) of optimum hyper compound??
Great job Brian, i love the bracket style reviews. All of the correcting fluids did very well considering the Euro fibre 50/50 pad choice. It seems from the video they also finished down well for heavy cutting compounds with that pad choice. Maybe there was some hazing i could not see. Over all spectacular results for two passes. I must admit i was rooting for KCX H9. If i could only choose from one product line. It would be KCX or Carpro. Any thought from the peanut gallery on that scenario ?
I love KCX, I have all there pads and polishes but compared to 3d Aca510 the h9 just doesn't cut it. I usually use 3d to cut then follow it up with kcx. I just bought some mirka polarshine 45 and 35 to try, mirka claims that the 45 can cut p600 grit scratches and the 35 can cut p800. This might be to aggressive for some detailers but for me I rarely detail anything younger than 11 years old and never polished before. This is because I flip the cars I detail so I'm restoring actually.
The 50/50 pad is a great choice for modern clear.
@@123fuhfrtgfh I have the H9 02 revision that i have not tried yet. All of the vehicles lately have been soft to medium clear. So no need for a heavy cut compound.
hey no the last cut plus?
Why didn’t you use the newer H9.02? H9.01 is years old by now. Just a curious choice since the other products are mostly new products. Thx.
Papa cut is even older.
I have another box full ready to go. Lots of compounds to catch up on in vids. I do not have a panel big enough for all of them.
Can you do videos with Scholl Concepts compounds?
I included them in the earlier vids. Maybe there have been formula updates.
Hi Brian,
Actually i have a bunch of question. i want to upgrade my arsenal for my small business detailing. i have see a lot your videos on youtube. oke get throught to question.
i just have 1 polisher and its rotary, i love using it with wool pad. 3D One already on my wishlist, and the question is
1. for cutting compound, should i take ACA500 or Sonax CutMax ? (i love using wool pad 😆)
2. for finishing, is it enough using 3D One + Soft Foam Pad ?
or maybe using sonax perfect finish will finish it better ?
1. ACA 500
2. that would work on medium to hard clear. On softer clear, you may need a finer abrasive.
What’s funny is multiples in the test are made by the same company with little to no changes and yet they place no where near each other in how they are ranked.
Please be more specific. Everyone knows that many products are white labeled from a few suppliers.
Which ones are the same here?
How do these compare against 3d aca 310
510?
I'm trying to graduate from the orange Griot's pad to a more aggressive pad or compound.
I used Sonax 6/4 and perfect finish with Griot's orange pad. Could I try rupes yellow microfiber or rupes yellow wool or the urofiber ? I'm open to trying a different compound. This is a daily driver w light to moderate scratches/swirl.
Blue Lake county sdo or hdo pad.
A Rupes Coarse Blue or Sonax Red Hard cut pads are an option.
I missed a little of the video, was it ranked just by cut or cut and finish
I take all characteristics into consideration.
no hate here but. complete bad video. First The pressure your are using you won’t able to do the whole car with it. Second. You need to work the polish long enough. Other wise it’s not in it proper cutting condition. You can still see scratches in the 3000 section on all polish. There is no way you can deliver a car like that to the customer.
You will never get max cut with a euro fiber 50-50
Agreed. I really dislike those pads, never found a use for them.
We love them and use them daily. Modern finishes do not need anything more aggressive.
First!!!!
