Swayze insisted on doing the Skydiving himself no matter how many times they said no.
And this film turned Keanu into a life long surfer.
Two truly badass dudes.

In the long standing bar debate, "Which Patrick Swayze is better, *Ghost* (1990) or *Roadhouse* (1989)?" the correct answer is *Point Break* (1991), although I'll give the *Dirty Dancing* (1987) Swayze an hoberable mention.
I'm an inland guy, and I don't really care about surfing particularly, but *Point Break* hit me right in a formative time in life and feels sort of like an anthem to me, a frame of mind I fully recognize.
This was the second movie Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze were in together. They were both junior hockey players in a movie starring Rob Lowe 5 years earlier called “Youngblood”. Keanu was the goalie. His mask from the movie is in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
True Story: Patrick Swayze wanted to shoot the skydiving seen for real because he did extreme sports in real life, and when the studio said no because they thought it was too dangerous he and some of the cameramen actually “borrowed” some of the cameras from the set, rented a plane, and did shot the scene FOR REAL!
And while the studio was upset, they were so amazed by that scene that they decided to keep it in the movie.
Gary Busey is such an interesting actor. He's probably clinically insane, but I love how well his weirdness translates to film. I've never seen him play a character anywhere on the moral spectrum that wasn't both totally convincing and endlessly entertaining.
Please check out the 1994 classic 'Speed' with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. Ta. 🧡
This movie dates itself, but it's pretty great. And definitely a moment in movie history. And a thousand times better than the remake.

This by far my favorite Keanu Reeves movie ever then in 2001 took this movie and call it the fast and the furious but point break did it better
Reeves was still a few years from his peak performance yet this is his best role. Being a little raw made his character better.
After working for the FBI, Johnny Utah became disenchanted with working for the government so he quit and went underground to become a hitman. He then fell in love so he had to give up his assassin job to get married to Helen, but she got sick and died. While grieving for his wife, his house got broken into and Daisy, the puppy Helen gave him was killed by the burglars. His Mustang was also stolen so he went after the people who broke into his house and killed his puppy.

The movie opened one week after T2, it didnt stand a chance. That being said it gained a cult following afterwards because of Keanu's star rising after Speed and the Matrix movies. Plus it's directed by Kathryn Bigelow who went on to make The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty so it found a new fan base about a decade later. Not to mention it got a remake in 2015.
I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers as bad guys in here. She also did the " Hurt Locker ". Good reaction

They remade the movie just a few years ago... But still when you say "Point Break" everyone thinks of this movie.

I've always loved this movie. Everyone involved in it was great. Kathryn Bigelow is an incredible director. I would love to see you all react to her movie Strange Days
I saw this movie a few times at the theater when it was released. Loved it. It was amazing on the big screen. Now I can see some dated elements, but it is still much better than the most recent remake.
That's why this movie is so great. The audience is going through the same emotions as Johnny, the lines are slowly blurring from the charisma and the effective storytelling. Johnny and Bodhi are like a ying yang of mirror images while being on opposites sides. Also, The Fast and Furious completely ripped it off and even tipped a cap to Point Break by shooting a scene at Neptune's Net the same beach side restaurant that Tyler worked at in Point Break.
Roadhouse would make a great reaction too

I once filled out an application with this question "When you watch movies, do you ever hope the thief gets away." and I thought of course I do that is the point of a lot of movies... but wrote No, of course not, they are thieves they should go to jail. I do wish Brody's last ride would have lasted longer and been a little better. When you watch Thor: Ragnarok, when Thor is entering his password in the quinjet and has to say "point break" that is because he made a remake that bombed.

I'm so glad you two saw Point Break and dug it. Surf culture was huge back in the early 90s and this film does such a great job of building a solid action crime thriller around it. It's one of my favorite summer-themed movies to watch during that time of year. By the way, I don't know if you knew this, but those guys who Keanu and Patrick fought on the beach? Those were the Red Hot Chili Peppers lol. I don't know if they've acted in anything else, though.
Only One of them was from RHCP (singer Anthony Kiedis). The gang leader, Warchild, is a badass actual surfer named Vince Klyn. Born in New Zealand but most people think of him as Hawaiian as he grew up there, and became a well known surfer there.
Speaking of RHCP, I know Flea acted in The Big Lebowski.

Surfing is still big but yeah it was pretty popular in the 90’s.
This movie actually changed my life which is weird to say but it did. I started to surf and I became a police officer. I’m older now and semi retired. Still surfing.
I even have a tattoo of Bodhi.

The New release of Point Break came out in 2015, I found it surprisingly good to. Alot of action. But obviously nothing beats this original. Great performances by Keanu, Patrick, and Busey.

I think the knock on Keanu is that, whatever the role, he’s always playing some version of himself. Fortunately, he’s a hell of a likable guy 😂 The only movie that I genuinely remember not liking was Johnny Mnemonic

Great movie. You should see Keanu Constantine and Chain Reaction and The Devil Advocate. Also Patrick Swayze Road House and Ghost . Fyi Gary Busey was already in a great surfer movie you should see called Big Wednesday. The singer of Red Hot Chilli Pepper plays a small role in this movie. He is the guy who shot his own leg. Point Break was also Tony Stark nickname to Thor :) because of Patrick Swayze blonde hair. The remake suck don't watch it. Another early fun underrated Keanu Reeves movie is The Night Before you should see it.
