Paulie’s slap to Henry Hill’s face while warning him against drug dealing was improvised by Paul Sorvino. Ray Liotta’s surprised reaction is quite authentic.
The real Tommy (whose name was Tommy DeSimone, not Devito) was actually more brutal than the way he was portrayed. Same with Robert DeNiro's character Jimmy.
For several years Henry while still in Witness Protection was a frequent caller to the Howard Stern show. Telling Howard about his experiences as a Goodfella. You can still find some of them on TH-cam. Great reaction ladies. ❤
Henry was actually on the show several times. He was always drunk. Several arguments with on the phone with Pauly and the sister of the kid that got shot by them when they were playing cards.

Edward A. McDonald played the FBI agent helping the Hills get into the Witness Protection Program. He was the real FBI agent who handled the Henry Hill case and Scorsese hired him to play the role in the movie. Scorsese also cast his own mother to play the role of Tommy’s mother in the film.
Martin Scorcese also cast his father, Charles Scorcese, in "Goodfellas." Charles Scorcese played the prisoner who "put too many onions in the sauce." He also played the old-timer who helped whack Tommy (Joe Pesci).
One of the best, if not, the Greatest Gangster Flick ever made! Nominated for 8 Oscars including Best Picture, but won for Best Supporting Actor Joe Pesci. The other 7 went to Dances With Wolves
It's "trendy" to dump on _Dances With Wolves_ nowadays, but it really is a fantastic movie. I was quite the cinephile back then and definitely thought some of those categories should have gone to _Goodfellas,_ but what can you do? Nowadays the latter is far more iconic than the former, so in the long run, it all evens out.
Dances would still rake in the Oscars in 2024. If it's a "white man bad" movie, the Hollyweird liberal guilt crowd will slobber all over it. Full disclosure: I thought it was an entertaining movie, even with cardboard Costner as the lead character. His acting range runs from A to B. @@AlbertaGeek
This is absolutely a cautionary example of why you don't to become a gangster, but a lot of people I know think they would love the wealth and the power and that they'd be too smart to make the mistakes that would get them imprisoned or killed.
I’m an 80’s WITSEC kid through my father. He relocated, married my mother, had my brother and I, and it took many years for use to finally acquire a stable living environment which included our schooling. I wouldn’t know exactly why that was until I was around 17 years old. Just because you leave that kind of environment doesn’t mean it’s easy to assimilate afterwards it’s quite the lengthy process.
@@hrussell9677 no, he was a DoJ prosecutor that sponsored Henry Hill into Witness Protection, but he was not an FBI agent. He’s now a white collar crime defense lawyer. He is literally playing himself in the movie.
Scorsese has his incredible way of telling stories and directing them, this film is no different, action and drama well mixed delivering a great mafia adventure.
He was still in witness protection when the book came out. So yes, most of this probably happened but the names have all been changed. Great reaction, ladies.
Great reaction Kristen & Vivian like alwyas, love this movie. Some fun-facts about this movie, some of the real criminals portrayed were actually toned down for the film, the infamous “funny how?” scene wasn’t in the script. This famous (if not the most quoted) scene comes at the beginning, when Pesci's Tommy DeVito jokingly-yet-uncomfortably accosts Henry Hill for calling him "funny." In addition to being the driving force behind the scene on screen, Pesci is also responsible for coming up with the premise. Both of Martin Scorsese’s parents have cameos in this movie. She plays Tommy's mother in the infamous dinner scene following Billy Batts’s murder, but the family connections hardly stop there. Tommy’s mother’s painting of two dogs sitting in front of an old man ("One's going east, and the other one is going west. So what?") was actually painted by co-writer Nicholas Pileggi’s mother. And Scorsese's father Charles also pops up as Henry’s prison compadre who puts way too many onions in the gravy. The large “f**k” count was mostly improvised, among the many things Goodfellas has become famous for over the 30 years is its liberal use of the word “f**k.” In all, the expletive and its many colorful derivatives are used 300 times. I dont know how this movie only went home with one Academy Award. You should react to "Casino" (1995) is another masterpiece from Scorsese, with De Niro and Pesci. Keep up the amazing work.
Hadn’t seen Goodfellas in a long time so rewatched it before seeing this reaction. Amazing how Joe Pesci goes from playing a loveable sidekick in Lethal Weapon 2 to an unhinged psychopath here. Always good to catch up on the great movies of yesteryear. Thanks for reaction
There is a prison in Galesburg Illinois called the Henry Hill correctional facility. It was opened in 1986. Until this movie, I had no idea who that was. Good reaction ladies.
So, SO glad you enjoyed this movie! Quite possibly the BEST gangster movie of all time. Next, you need to watch Casino (1995), also directed by Scorsese, and with many of the same actors as Goodfellas. AND, based on true events (like Goodfellas). 👍🏽
This served as the primary inspiration for the HBO series The Sopranos, which I highly recommend watching. Another film like this I recommend watching is American Gangster
"she has great legs though" Just wait till you catch an episode of her in the Sopranos as Tony's therapist years later. Dr. Melfi is her character's name but I call her Dr. Milfi as a compliment 💀
The movie My Blue Heaven with Steve Martin and Rick Moranis is also based on the same true story. It starts right after Goodfellas ends, with Steve playing the part of an ex-gangster in witness protection.
15:03 It’s not mentioned in the movie, but these guys were part of the Luchesse Crime Family, which later got taken over by the Gambino Family, making their “Boss” John Gotti. Paulie was a “Captain” Tommy was a “Soldier” Henry & Jimmy (who werent Italian) were “associates”
I still can’t believe why this movie lost Best Picture at the Oscars to Dances With Wolves. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great movie, but it does NOT have the legendary film status that this movie does. Oh and fun fact: the scene of the guys cutting thin slices of garlic to melt in the pan is BS, Martin Scorsese admitted when he talked with Jimmy Kimmel that he just made that up for the movie, you can’t melt garlic.😂 Also before I ever saw this masterpiece, I saw the Community episode “Contemporary American Poultry” aka the Mafia Movie episode. And I can’t watch the scene of all the bodies being displayed while “Layla” is being played without laughing and think about that episode.🤣🤣🤣 Also RIP Ray Liota and Paul Sorvino
A couple of my favorite comments about this movie came from a TH-cam reactor who said "Paulie is interesting. He looks cuddly and scary at the same time," and when he gave Henry the $3,200 instead of immediately having him taken out an killed, she said "I told you he was a cuddly bear." I wonder what the late Paul Sorvino would have thought of her reaction to his portrayal of Paul Cicero.
Love the fact that you two went full psychotic at the end of this reaction, much love to you it is always nice to know where are the best people are, scalping or beheading:-)😅😮
33:05 - this coincides with Michael Franzese (former Captain in the Colombo Family) saying about that life..."one of the horrors of that life is that your best friend walks you into a room and you don't walk out again..." and Lefty in Donnie Brasco saying, "you think I don't know how a hit gets set up? In Our Thing, you get sent for, you go in alive and you come out dead! And it's your best friend that does it!"
Iconic American Organized Crime film. Beautifully told. I remember when this was first released. It was a really big deal. Loved it back then. Still loving it today. Thanks for this little reminder of yesteryear. And thank you, girls, for your reactions. Really liking your style so I hit the sub button, black bell and like, and here's my little comment for you guys. See ya on the next. Big shoutout from the mountains of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Peace. What I think stands out about this mob movie is that it feels like the other half of the coin of the Godfather, which tells of how the mob viewed itself. Godfather, however, shows how we view the mafia.
And in this scene you see Robert De Niro use a ketchup bottle THE SAME WAY that Jimmy Burke did (Jimmy Conway was his real name in real life)! De Niro asked Henry Hill how Jimmy would empty ketchup out of the bottle...whether he would bang the bottom of the bottle (like I do 😅) or just shake it...but Henry said he would roll it inbetween his hands! 😂😂😂 they say method actors are mad men but I say that extra dedication to a craft can only be an admirable thing and something to admire! That's what makes actors like him, Al Pacino and Daniel Day-Lewis the greatest of all time! And at 18:55 - they try to talk Henry around here, not out of sympathy for his conflict with his wife, but because the wiseguys were scared the wife would run wild and start talking about things to people they shouldn't be talking about! And at 20:00 - this is the biggest falsehood I've heard about this life! Several former mobsters said they would sometimes get better food from the kitchen because of their status but someone like Henry (a non-made, half-Irish hoodlum) would NEVER GET TREATMENT LIKE THAT! And 21:31 - that slap was improvised and the surprise on Liotta's face was genuine! This is what separates the men from the boys in terms of acting! They don't make films like this anymore! Name ONE FILM that will be as classic as this and will be AS MEMBERABLE as this in 34 years time!
The trilogy to watch ....tho not related but all came out about the same time is in order, Goodfellas, Casino, A Bronx Tale! DeNiro and Pesci are in all 3!
Henry, Tommy and Jimmy were _associates_ of the Lucchese ('Loo-kazie') family (one of the five families). Paulie was the boss of that family. Billy Batts was a soldier (made man) of the Gambino family (another one of the 5 families). The Gambino's knew Batts was clipped by Tommy because of the bar incident, and were pushing Paulie to do something about it. He did. Paulie had too...those are the rules.
What Vivian said about playing dumb to stay safe reminded me of Douglas Hegdahl, a sailor who got washed off the deck of his ship by a huge wave during the Vietnam War and was captured by the North Vietnamese and put into Hoa Lo Prison (nicknamed the "Hanoi Hilton"). He knew that the North Vietnamese were routinely torturing P.O.W.s, so he played into their own propaganda that average American enlisted men (unlike the captured American pilots who were officers) were ignorant and stupid. He convincing them that he didn't know how to read or write and that he was too simple minded and easily confused to follow instructions properly. Hagdahl's captors decided that he was so stupid that, even if they tortured him into collaborating, he would be useless to them, so they didn't bother trying and gave him a nickname that meant "The Incredibly Stupid One" in Vietnamese. The truth was that he actually had an extraordinary memory, so when , as a PR stunt to show how "humane and lenient" they were, the North Vietnamese wanted to release some P.O.W.s early (which most P.O.W.s rejected because they refused to abandon their fellow prisoners), Hegdahl's senior ranking officer ordered him to memorize the names and personal information of 256 P.O.W.s at Hoa Lo Prison and to accept early release so he could return to the U.S. and tell the government and P.O.W.s' families who was being held at Hoa Lo so the North Vietnamese couldn't just make prisoners "disappear."

You ought to watch Cop Land, Stallone exercised his acting chops.
I recognized Samuel L. Jackson " stacks" in the movie.😁
The girl wearing red and on the left is fire and gorgeous. Classic film.
Y’all should definitely watch the Sopranos!
