"He respected her!" I do love that Poe pauses before punching Sally-Cant-Dance and slaps her instead. It's such a funny break in the middle of the penultimate action scene. Renoly Santiago, who plays Sally, is also great in the movie Hackers, with a young Angalina Jolie.
Yes, you were correct about Danny Trejo having served time. He was actually hired as a consultant on jail and prisoner stuff. But the producer and director liked him so much that they wrote in a part for him.
So underrated Nic Cage movie, always have time for this film, classic 90’s classic with a touch of emotional scene at the end with his wife and kid. You felt that scene at the end. Great Classic 👏
"Why couldn't you put the bunny back in the box?" Fun Fact: Kid Rock based American Badass (2000) on Cameron Poe (Nicolas Cage). Schwarzenegger Workout Fact: During set ups, Nicolas Cage lifted weights off camera to maintain the physique he had already attained for the film. Entertainment Tonight (1981) caught Cage working out between takes and aired the workout routine. Location Location Fact: The Las Vegas scenes were filmed at the legendary Sands Hotel immediately prior to its demolition in late 1996. When the production team heard about the city's intentions to raze the historic landmark, they immediately scheduled a multiple camera setup to take advantage of the rare event, which is what you actually see in the movie. The sight of the planes flying in low formation over the Strip during filming caused a number of Las Vegans to call the police.
It's crazy how Danny went from Con to one of the most recognized and respected actors alive. I know a few people who have met him and said he's one of the coolest guys they ever met.
These ladies now need to complete the Holy Trinity of Nic Cage movies which are Con Air, The Rock and Face/Off. Then watch The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent!
Great review! You both make rewatching these films so much more entertaining! Fun fact, the southern rock band, Larkin Poe, is named after Cusack’s and Cage’s characters from this movie. They are known for their strong southern harmonies, heavy electric guitar riffs, slide guitar, and their music often draws comparisons to the style of the Allman Brothers.
Yeah, Danny was the prison boxing champion at San Quentin. It was what led to his getting in the film business in a roundabout way. Eddie Bunker, who also served a stint in San Quentin while Trejo was there, went on to write a movie called RUNAWAY TRAIN and remembered Trejo when he showed up to set as a drug counselor for a crew member. So they hired Danny to be Eric Roberts boxing coach on the film, and then eventually just stuck him in as Roberts opponent because the director thought he looked unique. CON AIR was also responsible with giving us one of the great songs of the late '90's - "Mrs. Potter's Lullaby."
The original script for this movie had the plane crashing into the White House & Cameron Poe saving the President from Cyrus. But early in production, they learned that the Vegas hotel they ended up using was scheduled for demolition, and they could pretty much do whatever they wanted to it. So they re-did the script & saved a ton of money on sets instead. Imagine how much more bonkers this movie would have been if they’d gone with the original idea.
Kristen You are correct about Danny Trejo who plays Johnny 23. Danny served time at San Quention because of drugs. At San Quentin, Danny became champion boxer. During his time there, Danny found faith and started 12 step program to get clean. Plus, Danny earned his high school diploma in prison. His time in the prison system ended in 1972. His movie career started in the 80s at an extra. Because of his past, Danny was hired for prison movies. On this movie, Danny stated that Nic Gage was cool as hell! On John Cusack as Kickboxing badass! Most amazing part about Danny is that he is 79 years old. By the way, Danny owns Mexican restaurant chain in California called Trejo's Tacos. Plus, he owns other places serve food: coffee and donuts.
Great movie. you should also see Nick Cage in Face Off . Nick Cage has allot of great movies like Snake Eyes, National Treasure movies, The Sorcerer Apprentice and 8mm (A very shocking movie) . Other plane action movies are Passenger 57, Executive Decision and Flight Plan
Danny Trejo got his break in another great film Runaway Train (1985). He was hired to do a boxing scene and made some good connections and a good impression. Nick Cage's career is full of good films, including what I think you should take a look at called 8mm. It's so intense many people can't stick it out to the end. Loved the reaction and hope to check out more.
The "Top Gun vibe" might have something to do with both films being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. A lot of his films have a similar "glow", much like that of Tony Scott's films, "Top Gun" being one of their many collaborations.
The scene with the judge always pisses me off, because there are actually judges like that. Dude literally implied Poe should've just taken the knife and died, because I guess responding with deadly force when confronted with deadly force is bad if you are much better at it.
Yes, he believed his lawyer. Really the whole thing was self-defense as they attacked first - military record or not he would have been found not guilty, but because his lawyer blundered, and he pleaded. Nothing he could do. I love this movie. Just a feel good action flick. Great reaction you two. Kristen makes it so much better with her comments, giggles and laughs.
@@ZavaXavier there's so much wrong with it, it was self-defense, he clearly did not start it (were there no witnesses in the bar?), there was 3 of them, with knives...
This movie is great, but the premise is absurd. This highly decorated veteran gets a 7 to 10 year sentence in Federal Prison (?) for defending himself against 3 guys with knives, in a fight he, in no way, provoked. He must've had the worst lawyer in existence :D
@@ericwallace3175 In reality the case never would have even gone before a judge. The prosecutor wouldn't even try to charge him, it's absurd. A corrupt criminal judge is only as corrupt as the cases the prosecutor puts in front of him.
I saw this in theaters when it came out and it was such a great time. That ending where Poe reunites with his wife and meets his daughter completely wrecks me every time. It was sweet way to cap off an otherwise bad-ass action film. There are a couple of parts I wish had been clipped out for this video, though. The first one being where Poe says "on any other day, that might seems strange" when the Corvette is flying behind the plane because it's caught on the chain. The other one being when the motorcycle cop drops the doughnut with a bite taken out of it when he joins the climactic chase scene. Both parts got quite a laugh in the theater lol. I wanted to see if you two had the same reactions.
Even as a kid, I thought him pleading guilty was dumb and him getting all that time was stupid. He was defending his pregnant wife. I think he would’ve been okay.
After Nichols cage did this movie. He was supposed to do Superman after this but it never happened. I do love this movie. I thought it was great and good and the one liners were awesome. This has to be one of my favorite Nicholas cage movies
@@ckobo84Nick Cage is a little more than average looking. Which I actually like. In this movie and most of the 90's, he is really good looking to me. Weird looking, but not bad or homely. 😂

You mentioned in the end you're not as knowledgeable as some of the team but I do like it about you cause the reaction is more authentic, you're more immersed and engaged with the content while the guys are kinda too critical, the don't immerse themselves as much they always getting distracted by the actors names, judging the plot, acting performance etc, while you really focus on having an good time and following the story along, I think it makes for an more enjoyable react because you're more connected with the movie universe, imo.
Similar happened to my brother in law, he was attacked in a attempted robbery when he was washing his truck at a carwash, one guy took a head kick and hit the wall and it ended him. My brother in law almost got put away because he was military and they basically arent allowed to defend themselves. Luckily he was cleared
