SM2 has to be the manliest game of 2024. Three dudes have beef with each other, have a brief scrape, and then would literally fight and die against literal demons for one another.
Not to mention that it's a line-up of diverse characters and not a single person has mentioned that. It's a decent game with a decent story which is all people are asking for.
Here's the craziest observation: Titus, Chairon and Gadriel all have more character development in this game than Kratos and Atreus did in GoW2 (not 1, much better written). All 3 characters in SM2 learn, improve and bond from shared experience. Son & Dad start out where GoW1 left them and end identical with no actual conflict, more passive observers to other characters
The DeathWatch is actually a honor for veteran space marines to join. They are a special force meant to kill any alien threat. Titus's joining was as a "black shield". Its different. It was a punishment as he was accused of being under the control of a chaos god. He wasn't but still it was a spot for him to do good work while they figured out if he actually was.
It also depends on the chapter--in the Deathwatch novels the Ravenguard sent a marine to the DW because he was disrupting the cohesion of the chapter, not as an honor
In a Space Wolves book trilogy Blood of Asaheim, one of the Wolves just came back from the Deathwatch and that cause some drama within his squad. Great series btw, I just finished the third book like a month ago. Also to any new fans of 40k, if u have the time to read, you should try the audiobooks. I listen to 40k audiobooks whenever I'm driving lol.
My favorite chapter, the Black Templars, send any of their brothers who aren’t devoted enough to the God-Emperor and the Imperial Creed (the state religion) to the Deathwatch. Their piety is a sight to behold.
FYI the Deathwatch is not a penal battalion, they are the order militant of Inquisition Ordo Xenos. Each chapter sends Marines. You can join as a black shield, anonymous. That might be a penance. The Deathwatch are the spec ops of Space Marines.
I finished the campaign last night and can confidently say it’s a 10/10. Absolutely perfect. Everything that I wanted it to be and more. Gave me old school Gears Of War vibes
Ive been writing so many songs inspired by this game.... after all the wishy-washy stuff coming out the last few years, its been a joy to just live out the masculine sci fi fantasy like the good ol days of Gears of War
It is definitely not perfect but I think its a worthy successor to the original game in 2011. I find it amusing how Titus now looks like Henery Cavil. First off, I'm very happy you're playing this. I'm a 40k nerd, but I don't know everything about it. However, I do have a synopsis of the tutorial. A little background; the Deathwatch isn't a penal legion, they're elite alien killers. After Titus was tortured by an Inquisitor for a long time, said Inquisitor was killed by a daemon or something. Titus thought his legion had forgotten him (they hadn't; the Inquisitor just forwarded their calls to a servitor who dropped them), so he joined the Deathwatch as a Black Shield (basically a Deathwatch marine who might have been a Chaos marine and wants redemption, or a Deathwatch marine who has given up ties with his legion). The Ultramarines had not forgotten him, and the Chief Librarian (basically a psychic supersoldier/diviner who can kill people with his mind) felt his presence for the first time in a long time, and sent a team to retrieve him. They were the ones who saved Titus and got him to cross the Rubicon Primaris.
It's just so refreshing to have a game that caters to masculine interests. It seems like so many games have manly combat but shove so much diversity and femininity in the game that you can't enjoy it. It's like trying to go fishing with your wife or something.
Same. The end is a bit too cinematic perhaps. Its mind-blowingly awesome to watch, but examples like... if you could kill the Helldrake personally with the help of the dreadnought instead of watching it, might have been even cooler.
Hey Drinker. Glad you've decided to play SM2. Some issues with gameplay and balance, but boy oh boy the representation of Warhammer universe is beyond anything we have before in games. A few notes: 1. You can switch HUD preset to 'Full', or turn on directive markers manually in the Interface section of Settings, so your objective marker would always be seen on your HUD, not just in auspex mode. 2. You can switch between zoom levels while aiming (by pressing the camera stick on controller, IIRC). If you carry a bolt rifle with grenade launcher, this will switch to GL instead. 3. Please turn on the subtitles, it's really helpful for viewers on streams, especially for us, non-native English speakers. 4. Time your dodges/parries with the enemy animations. Each enemy attack can be dodged or parried, not just the ones that have blue or red warning. Each successful parry or dodge has a change to put a red cross on the target, then you must shoot it with a "gun strike". Not only gun strikes do a TON of damage, but also replenish your armour the same way the finishers do. 5. Please try melta rifle. It's a blast.
Death Watch is not a penal battalion. It's a specialist alien hunter force that draws its strength from veterans of multiple space marine chapters. The members then share their experiences in dealing with certain types of xenos with eachother and learn each other's tactics. Then when they return to their own chapters they are often viewed as heroes, and they're expected to teach what they learned while in the Death Watch to thier battle brothers. Blackshields are a special case. It's often reserved for marines whose chapters turned renegade while they were serving with the Death Watch. They strip their armors of chapter markings as a sign of shame they feel towards their chapter. Blackshields have no chapter to return to, so they're usually serve with the Death Watch until they eventually get killed. Titus served as a Blackshield as penance for being accused of corruption, so that he can bring no shame to the name of his chapter.
DRINKER, PLEASE RALLY THE USUAL SUSPECTS, AND DIE IN SERVICE OF THE GOD-EMPEROR (AND THE WARHAMMER LORE...) Amazon must not prevail over the 40K universe.
Fun fact about the "mortal wound" system in this game. You can get downed and revived 2 times in this game, no problem. Getting downed a third time and revived gives you a "mortal wound". If you get downed with a "mortal wound", you die. Now, if you fully heal with a "mortal wound", it goes away. Which means you can get downed and revived two more times.
I’ve been having such a good time with this - my fav sci fi franchise and I don’t care there’s only 12 missions and pvp, I can play all of these over and over again. Huge fan of this setting for almost 20 years now and all of the badass space marine stuff you do in this game is just total nerd bliss. And the 1k sons are my fav chaos legion, so them in it as well is just the cherry on top
I'm just finishing the campaign. Overall, it's a very satisfying experience despite a few flaws: 1. The campaign is too short for those who prefer a single-player mode. While the length of each operation is adequate, we only have five operations in the campaign. 2. Parrying and dodging mechanisms need some refinements. For example, they should cancel melee animations. 3. Execution should replenish both armor and health.
Welcome to the 42nd millennium sah! We got lots a nids, lots of spikeyz and many other things that needs purging in the Empreh's name sah! (Spoken in the tone of an Ogryn, a dimwitted giant strong enough to lift a tank with minimal effort and a genuine heart of solid, imperial made gold.)

Black shields on the other hand, what Titus was(notice his right pauldron has a cloth over what used to be the Ultramarine heraldry), are more the guys that renounced their parent chapter as well, it would be looked down upon by the other members of the parent chapter.
Titus takes his helmet off because the only character in 40k with more plot armor than an Ultramarine named character is a helmetless Ultramarines named character
I am only a few hours into the game and it is fun, but has all of the things I hate most in games like rail guards. I also find the ammo attrition to be a bit too much, it is not terrible but as far as I see it, it is just another guard rail to force you into using the chain sword more. My analysis so far is that it is not worth $60, but would be worth buying on sale for say $30 to $40. Update: I gave the game a solid 7 until I realized that I finished it in less than a weekend. So due to how short it is, it is worth $20 at most and gets a solid 5. It was a fun game over all but has all of the thing in it that make games bad, like guard rails and the repeated chatter from the character's telling you what to do and not leaving anything for you to have to figure out. This is stuff you put into games for people who can not play games well. Like game jurno's. This was over the top bad against the end boss that was a cheap fight where your space marines would not shut up about where to shoot him. In the end, it is worth playing if you find it on sale at a good sale price, but bang for the buck, was an overpriced letdown due to the issues mentioned.
