The Suffering Caused to Children: Dr Steve Farnfield

Dr Steve Farnfield, a world expert, explains how children are harmed by neglect and abuse. He explains how their suffering shows itself, in far from straightforward ways, how it can be assessed, the likely future for these children and whether they can be treated.
Dr Steve Farnfield has done extensive research into how to assess children. He has played a leading role in developing our understanding of how children's behaviour and personality are shaped by their experiences in the care of their parents. As a senior lecturer at the University of Roehampton he has helped to develop sophisticated methods for assessing young children through the careful and detailed observation of their play. He has a deep understanding of how their early experiences shape how they manage their interaction with adults and other children (their 'attachment') and how this affects their adult lives. He is currently doing research with the Mulberry Bush School into the effects of severe child maltreatment and how it can be assessed.
