      @syntaxis5584 6 ปีที่แล้ว +63

      yea he did but that driver really should have seen him, yea he was probably watching for oncoming traffic but still. But the worst part is how long it took him to stop, it should have been instant, he just kept pushing the biker forwards into the next lane.

    • @NetAndyCz
      @NetAndyCz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Obviously the cammer mistake, but I cannot blame them all that much,I think the biker could have easily merged but decided not to, while the car driver thought they will just make it if their timing is right so I assume he was fully focused on the truck and merging before it and the collision with the cyclist must have utterly confused him and the reaction times of people are rather long when encountered with unexpected. It ended up rather well for everyone involved which is good.

      @ Derpyderp,
      Some people do go out and crash into other cars as a hobby,I shit you not.
      A woman crashed into me and destroyed my car and extensively damaged my body.I was suspicious of the way she came at me on that occasion but put it down to her being extremely stupid until one day short of a year later when she targeted me again in a way that was obviously & blatantly deliberate, but she recognized me at the last moment pulled out of the attack and caused another crash while trying to escape the scene.
      Her name is Denise Laurence and she has no insurance,not a company in the land will cover her for collision or 3rd party.

    Every other one could be put down to stupidity, carelessness or just plain incompetent.

Even when on the surface you are not at fault, there is always something you could have done to help avoid the crash'. For the record...the standard of motorcycling in these clips is shocking! Anyway...I know your comment is 3 years old, but thank you for the work you do as a paramedic! Takata airbag design defect
      Certain types of airbags made by Takata Corporation use a chemical called phase-stabilised ammonium nitrate (PSAN) as a propellant. The ACCC’s investigation concluded that Takata PSAN airbags without a desiccant (or drying agent) or with a calcium sulphate desiccant have a design defect. Due to the defect, as the airbag ages and is exposed to high temperatures and humidity, the PSAN propellant is exposed to moisture and degrades. If this happens, when the airbag is triggered and deploys (in a collision), it may deploy with too much explosive force, rupturing the airbag inflator housing so that sharp metal fragments shoot out and hit vehicle occupants, potentially injuring or killing them.
      Globally, ruptures of defective Takata airbags have been associated with at least 24 deaths and 266 injuries. In Australia, one person has been killed and another seriously injured in separate incidents involving defective Takata airbags.

    I remember when I was in high school, would have been year 9 or 10 because it was before we were 16 and legally allowed to go for our L’s we went to a driving track for a day long lesson.
    Anyway, we probably spent like the first hour of the day in a classroom at the place before we got in a car where they just taught us a bit about driving and the road.
    Anyway, one thing that the guy said, which I have always kept with me today, was one of the most dangerous things in driving is ASSUMPTIONS and he went on to make some funny little quip about how it makes an ASS out of U. Anyway what he was basically saying was like don’t assume other drivers are going to do the right thing, don’t assume another driver will see you etc. etc.
    It sounds really trivial and just basic common sense, but you would’ve surprised and it was about 3 or 4 videos in this compilation that made me think of it, in particular the videos where they went through a green light and got sideswiped by a car running a red, and you see several of them in every one of these Dash Cam Aus videos.
    The driver that gets hit is not at fault, and he shouldn’t have to look both ways when going through a green but not everyone does the right thing and that assumption is what results in these accident.
    Another thing the guy said to was where possible, make eye contact with other drivers, particularly if your going to be driving over the same piece of road and this one applies to pedestrians as well. Don’t assume that other road users including pedestrians are paying attention and have seen you, so you look directly at them, and if you see them make eye contact with you then you know that they are now aware of you, if they don’t, they may or may not see you and they might walk out in front of you or something stupid.
    Another one, that I personally saw cause an accident in like my first week of driving by myself on my P’s, there is a servo near my house, it’s on the corner of a big 3 lane main road and a little side street. The first driveway entrance to the servo is like no more than 10 metres from the side street, and I was exiting behind another car, and there was a car coming on the main road who put his indicator on like 10-15 metres before the side street on our right sand, so it would have been a fair assumption that he was turning into the street before the servo so the car in front of me pulled out on to the main road and bang, side swiped, the car wasn’t turning down the side street, he went straight past it and into the car in front of me.
    Now me personally, if I was the car on the main road, and there was a side street and a driveway for a servo or any other property like immediately after, I would put my indicator on so early that people would think I’m turning in the side street, you still have to put it on with enough time to indicate to people behind you, but I would wait until the front of my car was just about to line up with the side street so it’s obvious I’m not going to turn into it.
    If the driver in front of me didn’t make the assumption the driver was gonna go down the side street and he just waited a few seconds to see what he was doing he wouldn’t have had his car smashed.
    This principle of not making assumptions can pretty much apply to any situation for any type of road user.
    You could say it’s about preemptive/defensive driving.
    Don’t assume that the cyclist won’t drift out of his lane in front of you because he probably will.
    When you are coming up behind a car in the lane next to you that is slowly swerving left and right and not staying in their lane don’t get next to them because they are probably on the phone, just because you can drive straight between two lines doesn’t mean the guy in the lane next to you does.
    ALWAYS look both ways before crossing at a pedestrian crossing even on a green light, the same as in this video with driving through a green. I see videos of pedestrians with their heads looking down glued to their mobile phone screens who cross when they hear the noise the crossing makes when it’s green for walk and don’t look up or left or right and they get hit by a car and everyone is like waaah it’s the drivers fault the driver is a dickhead bla bla bla, yes, the driver is at fault, the driver could have been distracted looking at speed posts or looking for a parking spot and reading signs along the side of the road and not seen the light turn red so pedestrians can cross.
    I remember seeing one on Facebook and I said, even though the light is green you should still look both ways before crossing, and of course everyone got butthurt telling me it’s the drivers fault for running a red light like I didn’t know that, I had to explain that all I meant was, drivers and other road users do make mistakes so if the pedestrian had have looked before crossing that driver would have ran the red light and continued on and you would still be standing on two feet.
    Personal Responsibility, it seems as time goes on this concept diminishes....

    • @NemoConsequentae
      @NemoConsequentae 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Paul Michael I learned early on, when riding in particular, to live by 2 assumptions. They have served me well & I have survived because of them.
      1: I am invisible.
      2: Every car on the road is trying to kill me.
      Although what they mean, really is:
      1: No one has seen me. Don't assume they will give way at any time until they prove it.
      2: There are many idiots in cars. They WILL do stupid unexpected & illogical things, what might this one do?
      As for making eye contact... On at least 2 occasions, I have had people in cars look at me, make eye contact, then pull out in front of me anyway, forcing me to take evasive action to avoid a crash.

    • @paulmichael1269
      @paulmichael1269 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mykl Langridge yep, exactly, so your two assumptions are to not make assumptions, in particular about other road users.
      One of the common ones is the assumption that they have seen you, but the core principal of this method or concept is simply, don’t assume other road users will DO THE RIGHT THING, which quite often they don’t.
      I don’t particularly think stupidity and arrogance are limited to car drivers, obviously cars dominate the roads so it’s more likely to have an issue with a car simply because there are more of them than other types of vehicles. I’ve encountered dickheads on bikes, in trucks and of course on cars.
      The eye contact one obviously in theory is just so you know that the other road user has seen you, but unfortunately that doesn’t mean they still won’t be a dickhead.
      Unfortunately at this point in time there is no known cure for arrogance and dickheadedness 😂

    • @rinasclmento425
      @rinasclmento425 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're exactly right on not assuming what other people are doing on the road. For example the other night I came up to a roundabout. A car was on the opposite side and was not indicating, so i assumed that they were going straight and I could drive forward into the roundabout. But something made me pause and wait, and of course the person turned Right into my path (STILL not indicating right!!) and if I had kept going, they would have hit into me on the drivers' side and I would've probably gotten badly injured from that.
      Its so easy to get into an accident even if you follow every rule because not everyone does, and I was lucky in that scenario really because there was no way I could've predicted that.

      I had to watch that about 4 times to see what really happened. Car pulled over & braked, crane braked to try & make space, but as the car pulled over, it was never in front of the boom in the first place. It caught it with the back of the car & PITed itself on the cranes boom. So the crane driver is completely off the hook for this one! As the impact was on the side of the car, it becomes entirely the cars fault for "changing lanes in an unsafe manner".

      But there is one thing that always foils these pesky scams, THE DASH CAM 📷 and most trucks now come with one these days.

    Watching these videos gives us the benefit of hindsight.
    Foresight is knowing enough about what you are doing to prevent accidents and save a life....your own. People train/study heavily for jobs or skills, why not driving?
    Some of these are pure accidents, sure, accidents can be avoided but not every road user be it pedestrian or truck driver has the same abilities or sense to avoid accidents. It's what makes humans unique.

    First clip: This is a problem that is spreading like an unwanted rash on the roads here in the UK. People pull out to overtake... then just end up pacing the vehicle instead of accelerating and clearing it. Mostly on motorways though.
    In this clip, if that driver survived, I do hope they get their licence taken off them permanently. Perfectly straight bit of road, you could see that bus coming a mile off! What a dick.
    Third clip (1:30): Another problem getting more and more prevalent on our roads: Dickheads in big expensive 4x4s bumbling about not looking or paying any attention, secure in the knowledge they won't get hurt!

    • @rossprivate5456

      the car in the first clip was a car driven by a chinese tourist ,causing a rethink of how easily tourists can get licenses over here. we get it all the time where tourists who have never driven longer that half an hour or at a speed greater than 50km an hour kill themselves or someone else and then we get the cops screaming at us about road deaths and how we need to drive safer .

      I find that sometimes when the vehicle in front of me is going well enough below the limit for me to overtake that the second i hope into the right lane they suddenly find the accelerator again and match my speed. And the worst part is if i slow down and hop back into the left these inconsiderate assholes almost always slow down again.

    • @rossprivate5456

      @@nineteen80seven66 yep it amazes me how drivers sit below the limit until they get to an overtaking lane then speed up requiring you to speed excessively just to get past.i dont know whether the wider road makes rhem feel more confident to go faster or whether theyre just assholez but it happens so many fucking times.
      Whenever i see shit driving i look to see the driver and inevitably its always either an old person an asian or black or muslim pr a p plater and i will stand by that comment to anyone.

      @bmused55 The 1:30 one, the big expensive 4x4 was stopped legally, though, & the medium carlike SUV turned into him. Looking at it, I can make a guess at some parts. The SUV was turning & cut WAY too tight, but was also driving from sun into shade, directly towards the sun. So the black 4x4 was probably indistinguishable from the shadows, which is why he didn't slow in any way.
      That just means he should have gone slower & looked more carefully. And driven on the correct side of the road...

      Rather like Volvo drivers in the 80's. The people with that mindset have migrated to whatever makes them feel 'safe'.
