Yep. Was actually holding my gut in in anticipatory fear. Even 'though we'd have seen that event on the news if it happened.
Story goes: The driver had a seizure and slumped in their seat, teenage son (passenger) was leaning across steering the vehicle the down the road. He chose to crash the car into that wall rather than hit those pedestrians. Hope they're both ok.

Here in America: Small fender bender happens, and both parties refuse to move their vehicles to the side of the road and stay in the middle of a 10 lane super highway because they believe CSI is going to be called to take photos and collect evidence.
Australia: driver's Jeep is forced to perform an involuntary barrel roll. "My bad, let me get my jeep out of the road way so as to not be a nuisance to other drivers".
We get taught from day dot and it’s just common sense, if you have a prang try get the car off road so we don’t really fuck the flow of traffic too much
Usually people get out and help the second something happens with an accident anyways

It’s because in many areas it was required that you not move your car until photos were taken for insurance purposes. Since our country is so litigious we have to worry about lawsuits constantly so proving fault is very important. Many states are changing laws to say move over if safe to do so but it’s a problem due to insurance and lawyers not because we don’t care about other people on the road…

@@JM-hn7ju It's not illegal to run a yellow light - the yellow light says that you can stop if it is safe to do so, while the cammer didn't attempt to slow down, they aren't in the wrong for the incident since they initially passed through the intersection on a yellow light

I was going to say. After watching all those videos where there’s barely a knock, but both drivers just parked it in the middle of the highway for hours…

Anyone else think their driving has improved since watching dashcams videos over time? There’s often common situations which are avoidable, and these videos help identify the really dangerous situations..

So far , I i've learned two things from the video ,
One the Roundabouts, especially the double lanes ones are crash magnets,
The second never get distracted when taking your hand off the handle bar to give the finger to a driver in busy traffic conditions 19:55.
The three stages of Defensive Driving:
1. "Lalala I'm driving my car at more or less the speed limit ha ha I am invincible because I am in the right and red lights cast a magic forcefield!
2. I assume anything could happen at any time and I must expect the unexpected.
3. I assume all other drivers are actively trying to kill me at all times, until they prove otherwise by going away.
By watching these videos I've learnt that most drivers (be they in the right or wrong) have absolutely shithouse reaction times. I've also learnt from TH-cam that we Australians don't know what the amber light means (does the rule vary between states like the U-turn at traffic lights rule?)
Hint (NSW): A yellow (amber) light means you must stop. You can only go through a yellow light if you cannot stop safely before the 'Stop' line. 😁
To the international viewers: Australians are unique in that we favour a " multi level comparison" insult method when confronted by idiocy. You'll notice that Aussies will " taste test" a number of epithets until we find the right one for the situation: defining the LEVEL of idiocy seen is VERY important and we want to our response to be the most suitable.

I have a lot of respect for the professionalism required to drive a truck, but that one was a bit much. While I would like to think if I were the car I would've anticipated it, I think it's highly likely the car driver didn't even see the truck, let alone anticipate the truck was attempting a U-turn on a busy multi lane road traffic light intersection. From the car driver's perspective, they had a green light: no where in car driver training do drivers get taught to watch out for big trucks doing U-turns from out of nowhere when the light turns green for you.
@@Banana_Split_Cream_Buns Bear in mind too that that happened in NSW. You cannot do a u turn at lights unless there is a sign that says you can. The truck driver is 100% wrong.
On Facebook, quite a few people were defending the truck driver.

14:55: Although it's never a nice thing for a motorcyclist to experience a crash, this guy honestly had it coming to him.
I hope he's ok. Saying that, it was a stupid decision to ride down the shoulder at such a speed. That's just one of the reasons why its illegal for motorcyclists to lane filter along the curb.
I'd nearly argue the same thing at 20:00. Stupid decision to change lanes in such a short gap and he paid the price for his impatience.
That, and he had zero situational awareness.

@My Nama Jeff that's a particularly nasty corner, he should have dropped down to first gear and slowed down. Bad angle too it happens to the best of riders especially if you aren't familiar with the road. But you cant fix stupid i guess.

Just because you have the right of way, doesn't mean you shouldn't still watch for oncoming and incoming traffic. Its always good to be aware of cars around, someone might be going through a red light, or speeding, or don't know the laws well enough themselves. Anything to avoid a crash is good

There is no such thing as right of way in Australia. Only that you must give way to other drivers in certain scenarios
You may be legally entitled to "right of way" but you don't *have* it, until the other driver gives it to you.
Yeah this channel made me slow down and pause for a second. When I see the other light go yellow I watch for traffic and make sure it’s stopped. Then as I pull out I look right than left, and repeat as I’m crossing through (US).

Just to ease everyone’s mind, I slowed the video and @ 4:43 on x0.25 speed, it doesn’t look to be a dog. It appears to be two objects, one black and one white, the white one has something coming off it.

There is one thing I haven't understood in 13 years of driving - how fucking hard it is to see WHAT'S RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU??? Most of what driving is about is just reacting to what's right there, in front of your eyes.
Yeah plenty of these accidents were more than preventable.
The sad truth is because they weren't looking in front of them.

Maybe I'm a cynic but it looks more like the occupants of both cars knew each other and the crash was caused by some silly antics where the accident vehicle swerved too close to their mates and then lost control.

Ever seen a video where the other driver throws themselves into the other car and you are like what? how? THIS is how it happens.
In a lot of these accidents you have to remember the dash cam sits above the eyeline of the driver. Just because WE can see the driver approaching doesn't necessarily mean the DC driver can

I'd still blame the recording driver. It is obvious from over 100 meters away that he should slow down to let the cross traffic pass, even if they are running a red light.
And in this episode we learned: never ride a motorbike, watch out for Commodores, trades towing trailers follow too close, and never trust anyone at an intersection.

I’m glad someone commented this! I always look at the lights in situations like this, it’s usually the turning car at fault but the fact they both ran the red is priceless 😄
ah.. i was waiting for this one.. i thought the same, but to to be honest it is the one going straight that should be the problem, because the one turning right should have more right of way than going straight. when taking a right turn, we often wait for the oncoming traffic. you'd expect the on-coming traffic to slow down as you make the right turn.

Here's a bit of advice on written English in return: you don't need to bother adding an apostrophe ( ' ) before the S in Dads, years, or sons. The apostrophe is used to indicate possession ("the bike is Dave's") or omission/contraction (don't = do not, hasn't = has not, etc.), if you want to make a noun plural you can just chuck an S on the end, no apostrophe required. Hopefully this saves you some time and effort in future! :)

TBH I thought it was a good example of why you don't beep your horn is someone is in the middle of a risky maneuver. Rider would have got away with it if he wasn't distracted.
so many of these accidents could have been avoided if people actually slowed down for an orange light rather than gas'ed and go'ed.
while we're at it, i wish more people knew that at least in nsw (not sure about other states), YOU ARE ALLOWED TO WAIT IN AN INTERSECTION ON A BLACKED OUT TURN LIGHT. Even if the light turns red, if you are still in the intersection YOU CAN GO.
So much congestion could be eliminated just like that if more people knew this, and half the accidents in this compilation are also because the car waiting to turn is scared that they're in the middle of the intersection when the light goes red.
Almost none of the accidents were actually caused by people running the yellow.

@@yup3398 not sure what video you watched then but the one I saw and commented on were majority people speeding through the intersection on the orange.
@@djrattis yes that's exactly it lots of light running. But it wasn't the light runners causing the accident in general. It was people turning on a solid red into their path. There is quite a delay after your light has gone red before they get a green.
I'm a professional driver and I do a lot of kilometres each week. And after watching these compilations I'm really glad I live and work in a small city.
Having driven a bit in Oz, QLD mainly, (I'm from the UK) I have never seen this type of carnage when I've been over there. I feel I've been missing out lol. But I have to say that this Dashcam channel is the best one on TH-cam by a long way.

I avoided an incident exactly like that, with a speeding 4WD by stopping on a green (half expecting to get rear-ended in the process). The footage was lost to the aether. I would have loved to share it.

My guess is she assumed the car was going to use the slip lane instead of running the red. I don't really blame her for this one, especially as darkness makes it that much harder to judge. There would only have been a split second or two between her realising the car wasn't going into the slip lane and impact

When I was in the S.E.S (State Emergency Service), we used to refer to incidents involving motor vehicles as RAR (Road Accident Rescue) but it got changed quite a number of years ago to RCR (Road Crash Rescue) as these incidents arent 'accidents', even if you dont mean it to happen.
Something happened to cause the accident, whether it be lack of concentration, tiredness, poor tires/brakes etc, running a red or breaking another road rule, on phone etc etc...there are a plethroa of reasons but it goes to show theyre avoidable.

10:30 i had this exact thing happen to me once. Knob jockey overtook me dangerously, and stacked it into a ditch not that far in front of me. I stopped to wind down my windows to scream ''YOU CAN'T PARK THERE'' and drove off. Laughed the entire way.
20:44 Amber light means slowly to come to a stop… this exact same thing happened to me with a Green P plater rear ending me at 80km, he tried to run a red light and therefore ran into me without realising I had come to a stop.
Metropol driveway twice in the same compilation. (@5:16, @19:24). That driveway is notorious as there is usually a queue of cars turning in blocking the view of those waiting to come out.
I will not turn right out of it, and when I drive past I always slow down to 40km/h and move to the right of the lane in case someone pulls out.
Plenty of people who are turning left into the driveway swing out into the right lane too. 🤦🏼♂️
The shops there love putting their A frame signs all along the footpath next to the driveway which doesn't help with visibility when turning out of the driveway in either direction. It's a nightmare of a shopping centre, considering how busy it is, the road infrastructure in and out of it is totally inadequate. The amount of times i've seen this exact accident happen (or go past and see glass all over the road from it happening earlier) in the last few years is scary.

I believe there is a correlation between running red lights and crashing
Way too many late amber / early red light going straight through.
No time for the right turners to clear the intersection.
No foresight, no driving sense.
Also the number of crashes that could be avoided if the person not technically at fault had been a tad more observant of a car blatantly not slowing for a light or the like. Not saying they're at fault there, just that awareness and the ability to read other drivers are probably the two most important skills for any driver to learn.

That's a dirt thing and he/she wasn't on dirt. What they learnt was to take the corner, if not the whole ride, slower. Possibly also that different bikes have different handling.
Turn right to turn left. Yeah, even on my DR I wouldn't do that on bitumen and I definitely wouldn't be trying it on that bike on that road. There's a reason speedways are dirt.
All three riders looked a bit out of control around that bend. Probably not the best road to learn on...

The semis? About right for the “standard” you see from truck drivers these days. Thirty plus years ago when I was taught to drive, there WAS no such thing as this mystical excuse-for-everything “blind spot”. Our instructors drummed into us that of you couldn’t SEE, if you weren’t SURE, then you DIDN’T GO. nowadays drivers seem to be convinced that literally everywhere except for a tiny window directly ahead of their eyes is a blind spot…they don’t turn their heads, check their mirrors, move around in the seat to get a better angle on the mirrors, etc etc. They just go, and everyone else has to get out of their way.

@@SoWhat1221 Doesn't have to be unsafe, just practicable. If you need to do an emergency stop to make the light, then that's not practical. Stopping in a controlled manner is the way to go, same as not planting your foot when accelerating away from lights.
People need to learn to read the traffic, rather than Pavlov the signals.

The start of one line to the next line is 12.5m apart, there was two lines before the solid line so he had about 45m when the light went yellow, moving at 63km/h or 17.5m/s, so he had traversed another ~5 meters before being physically able to react to the light (assuming perfect .25s reaction time), so roughly 40 meters remaining to stop. The minimum safe stopping distance for a light vehicle moving at 63km/h is about 27 meters in optimal conditions, so yes he absolutely could have stopped safely. More realistically, lets give him 1 second to react. Stopping distance goes up to about 40m, so a margin of ~5m. Maintaining speed for 3 seconds, he gets through the lights.
Now on the turning vehicle... they also had a yellow light, were moving slower and had the same time to respond to the yellow light, but is also legally required to stop until the opposing through traffic is past.
Now here is the kicker: the speed limit on that road is 70km/h. The lights are on a 5 second cycle to accommodate this. The expected stopping distance for this intersection should be about 70 meters."

I don't think it's an excuse in this case but in many cases the dash cam is above the eyeline of the driver, just because we can see doesn't always mean the DC driver can.
By assuming the car might be heading for the slip lane right next to it? Not that hard to imagine if you look at it from the perspective of someone not watching a crash compilation.

Ah, good old Metropol in Carindale features not once but twice. No great surprise. If you were into collecting bits of broken headlight and bunpers that exit is one of the best in the area.
Which is why the smart move is to leave by the other exit... only have one road of drivers to contend with, with a much better view rather than the morons coming multiple ways from that exit shown.
@@Bicketybam68 true, and that’s the exit I prefer too, but I’ve had some choice experiences there as well with cars racing down the left turning lane on Creek Road to get ahead of the cars at the lights. Especially at night.

I love the fact that the Jeep driver just rolled it but still pulls off the road to clear traffic. Unlike Camry drivers who get a scratch on the bumper and block traffic in the middle lane during peak hour of a freeway.
Having had an accident earlier this week, watching this made me feel a lot better about mine. Could've been a lot worse. That first one was BRUTAL

I see dcams as *two Dimensional perspective one sided view.*not all dcams capture the whole event.
The punchline is (imo) try not to move any vehicle, away until all bits of “the reasons as to why are captured”

It's scary how many of these are people stopped and waiting to turn across oncoming traffic, and then they just decide they've waited long enough and go when its clearly unsafe.
They panic when the light turns yellow thinking they are going to be stuck in the intersection on a red. They have forgotten you are allowed to be one car into the intersection and go on the red.
Problem here think that because the going straight is in a yellow it’s their fault. It nit it’s the turning car.

My own experience tells me that NSW drivers are aware that there are such things as road rules, but they don't apply to them.
VIC drivers don't even know they exist.

In overall quantity, you'd get significantly more from Greater Sydney than from Greater Melbourne, but I think Greater Melbourne would take the gold medal in the Absolute WTF category. There seems to be a lot of red-green colour blindness in Melbourne.

I now live 3 hours south of Perth and make sure if I have to go to Perth I'm getting there late at night when there's only a few other cars on the road (sitting in the right hand lane for no reason at all).

all of them could have been avoided. Every single motor vehicle incident is a result of negligence one way or another, with the only exception being unforeseeable mechanical failures despite proper servicing.

In 1990 I went on a 'Car Control Course'. One thing they emphasised was to not only keep the tread up BUT also the pressure in the tyre up (they recommended at least 30PSI for the average sedan. I check tyres at least fortnightly but most don't.
