- David Allan Coe performs "You Never Even Called Me By My Name" live at the Farm Aid concert in Austin, Texas on July 4, 1986. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

I was there in the front row tripping my ass off and this performance blew my frigging mind!😂🎉
I saw him in a little place called The Gayhead Sportsmans Club in Gayhead NY not far from Catskill NY. It was a little old log cabin style place dated back to the 40`s or 50`s. Only about 50 to 75 people, Can`t remember what year it was but I`m going to say it was the late 70`s or early 80`s. What a great performance, David was a real gentleman and was fun to talk to during breaks. One thing that sticks in my mind was that he sang his songs just like you heard them on the album. What a great time we had partying with David Allen Coe. Thanks for a fun night Mr. Coe!
