Sept 26, 2014. Eugene, OR (Matthew Night Arena). Great American Road Trip Zac Brown Band covering David Allan Coe "you Never Even Called Me By My Name"
Six of the best-matched country instrumentalists and harmonists I know of, paying tribute to Coe’s song in a glorious live interaction with an enthusiastic audience. The fuzzy vid and shoddy audio can be forgiven, in this amateur take of the performance!
That's NOT Coes song,he helped make it more famous but two legends named Steve Goodman and John Prine wrote that song,if you don't know those guys please look them up,you'll love them
mgunde They wrote it, but David Allen Coe originally recorded it. That makes it a David Allen Coe single. Before you try and get technical, check your facts. Moron.
Are you high? The song was written with DAC as the perfect artist sing the anthem to Nashville recording executives that DAC, Steve Goodman, and John Prine, who chickened out and “removed” having his name in the song, not wanted to not receive credit as described. They also give credit to other steadfast freethinking loyalists name-drops Waylon Jennings, Charley Pride and Merle Haggard. Coe also makes reference to Faron Young's "Hello Walls" The song was covered by Merle!
Idk if I'm more surprised by the fact that they performed this song, or that a lot of their fans actually seemed to know it.
Everybody knows this song
@@LinkRocks Sure, but I can't picture Zac Brown concert attendees to be the type.
..at least, not those kind of bars. Lol
This might be the first actual country song if they’ve ever played lol
I wonder how many people in that crowd knew that this was a Steve Goodman song or even heard of Steve. Lost to the mists of time...
I was there. Was a great show. Best part hands down.
another great listen ! Zac Brown / David Allan Coe
That's probably the best cover I've ever heard that didn't include Steve Goodman,John Prine or David Allen Coe
You can't do EVERY David Allen Coe song today and live to tell about it.
X rated album is where it's at 🤣
wow great cover
DAC is one of the greatest
