Thomas, I apologize for criticizing your arguments but I think that when we are driving we should constantly pay attention to our surroundings and not only to the front, especially when driving in the city as this car's purpose is proposed. However, I agree that most of the time we are looking at the front.

This car should be named “No I.D.” like the American hip hop musician. The “No I.D.” phrase refers to American youth because grocery stores in America have signs that say “No I.D. - No Tobacco - No Alcohol”, in the U.S. a person is considered an adult at 18 years old, however Tobacco and Alcohol are restricted items that are only allowed to be sold to persons 21 year old or above. This car’s price point will appeal to the youth.

Well equiped 35k easy. And it's a B segment car. I personally see it as a distater. Previous C class Mercedes for example was around 36k euros in around 2016. if I'm not mistaken. Not to mention Passats and other bigger non premium cars. In less than a decade we got a price jump of cars which is probably higher than the one happened suddenly in 1970s if the stories older ppl tell are true. And proportionally it's not inflation and also not the case only with EVs but all cars.

The first VW in a long time that I'm actually interested in and want to look at and find out more about. That's after 11 VW's so far in our two person household. Certainly the first electric VW that feels about right. I definitely think this should be the next Polo, i.e that's the right name for it. The front lightbar is obviously still very concept-like, and will look much different when the production car comes, and I hope they take inspiration for the LED lights from cars like the Golf Mk7.5, Scirocco facelift, and Arteon. The luggage space beneath the rear seat should be kept similar to the concept. I find that would be most useful.

VW has been disappointing alot recently when it comes to car design; for example the new Passat looks like a Peugeot 406, and the new Tiguan just looks like a generic Korean or Japanese crossover. One solution with the rear bench lift would be to split it 60/40 to allow the child seat to stay in place and retain the same visual treatment. This would increase cost, part count and build time however. I think it's quite okay to just leave it as it is - maybe put a flip down front panel in the tray moulding to allow access.

@12:00 I like that more cars are embracing the folding rear seats, I love it in my Jazz, and I've seen similar storage in pickup trucks for a while, but it's nice to see it get used in smaller more practical cars. Though being able to remove that container to get a flatter rear floor would be handy for carrying some stuff (though I appreciate that it would massively complicate the process, so I understand why they didn't).
Having it be a split folding seat seems like the best idea. Allows access with 1 child seat at least. It'd be a good place to store things like a 12V tyre pump, first aid kit, wind up lanetern etc that I keep in the underfloor storage in my boot (to keep the rest of the boot looking clean).

But this I.D.2 looks truly like Volkswagen is back. I like all the details, the materials, usability things, ambient lights and the fact that you open the boot by pressing on the VW logo is a really good idea, especially if the hatch has electric opening. If new production I.D. cars have these features that Volkswagen was known for I am very tempted to go back to VW. Keep up the good work both Autogefühl and Volkswagen! Cheers from Finland :D

That's also a huge amount of space under the boot floor, very impressed with VW for that! The hidden 12V and normal plug in the back is just showing off :D

Great to see the lack of capacitive buttons! I didn’t buy a mk8 golf GTI because of those.
One thing I would change for this car would to be to put the top edge of the center screen in line with the gauge cluster screen. The current placement looks too high and could be distracting . It also would follow the older style of Golfs with the screens integrated into the dashboard.

    A fascinating preview, so thanks.
It is simply wonderful to see VW getting back to competing on price, and I think that is part of what they need to do to remain relevant as a mass market brand. I thoroughly approve the new UI/UX decisions so far: digital where it works; proper switches and controls; simplification of the UI, presumably partly price driven; and displays which you can use without distraction.
I take issue with the idea that this is just a city car. My first cars (1970s) had no more than a 200 mile range between fill ups and worked perfectly well for all kinds of journeys. The problem is not range but availability of charging points. As small a battery as possible makes sense for a car’s weight, efficiency, and handling. I live in the UK countryside with my nearest neighbour a quarter of a mile away. Most of my journeys are within a fifteen mile radius. My longest commute is about 45 miles one way where, crucially, there is charging at either end. This is a perfectly practical main car if you can get to charge it for longer journeys where you are probably going to take some kind of break after 100 or so miles.
As pointed out in the preview, VW now do have to work harder at turning around their new designs much faster than they have in the past. However one point about taking a bit of time between new models is that VW have accumulated a lot of experience in what works and does not, and to their credit show every sign of making this new car a classic.

I like the solid lightbar across the front and back, that'll look incredible at night! I do think Polo EV could be a car, but the ID series is kinda known as being their electric line at this point.
If they can keep the interior that nice, with that kind of material, at this price, there won't be much that can compete with it!
The interior lighting strip around the top of the dash/doors looks very nice (though I'm not sure what it'll be like at night, with how visible those reflections are in the windscreen).
Good choice with the seat material, leather/leatherette (especially cheaper ones) never feels as good as proper fabric (also nicer in hot/cold weather!).
The rear wireless charger is quite nice, haven't seen that much before.

I purchased a new Cupra Born last year after years of being a loyal Citroen customer (I always thought the hype about the quality and drive experience around German Branded Cars was just bluff and bluster, but now I get it, and will never consider buying a French Brand, except the new anticipated Renault 5). I'm extremely happy with the car but it's great that some of the issues shared by the Born and ID3 are being addressed - real buttons are great and I do like the the space saving area within the back seat. The exterior design is classy and simple. If VW can bring out the ID2, ID Polo, or whatever they choose to call it, sooner, without compromising quality, then they should.

Thank god for the return of physical buttons, that’s probably one of the biggest things that’s stopping me from upgrading to a current gen model.
That being said, battery stats don’t look very exciting: smallish battery with slow charging tech its not going to get people excited about EVs, I’d rather get current gen fast charging with the same battery range tbh, to at least cut on charging times when doing outdoor trips. When a current gen Polo can achieve roughly 550km range with a full tank and conservative driving, going down to 300ish km range and slow charging its not going to get many customers wanna buy it. 😅

Here's an opinion from a consumer, and someone who has discussed this with some others interested car buyers after having looked at the interior.
1.) ID.2 Is perfect. The ID.2 being below the ID.3 is fine because of the pricing and size being smaller sets it up.
2.) Let's cut down on the blue interior stitching and the blue accents-excepts LEDs which I will talk about in a second. While it fits with the VW brand color, I feel they should reserve it as either an optional selection or to save it for any R badge future if VW plans to give the ID.2 an R badge.
3.) The LEDs should have some customizability in return! I really would love to make the LEDs on the sides for both back and front be an ambient 2700 kelvin kind of warmth so I can feel cozy and comfortable while driving my car, especially at night!
4.) The little under-the-seat storage cubby is smart, but lets save some cost by instead just having it as a pullout drawer on the driver's side that can store the charging cable so that it doesn't have to take up space in the trunk. Raising the seats up also doesn't really need to be a thing to access this, I guarantee most people are more accustomed to storing things in the cargo space and it could be custom to fold the backseats down to store large items rather than raising the seats up. It's a clever feature, but it will see very little use in the long run.
5.) Lets cut down on piano black textures. I know they add a layer of luxury, but I think a black plastic that isn't a reflective surface will do much better and they don't leave those ugly smudges from constant use.

ID.2 is perfectly fine as a name, especially after the phenomenal feedback on the concept.
