There's a reason VW sales are down 20% , people who want tesla like shit interior buy tesla, people who buy VW don't expect such a radical change of interior and a shit interface, they expect buttons, knobs etc, they expect proper ergonomic sensible German interior, instead they get a big tablet and digital instrument cluster. I think that is on purpose. Cupra is, I think, for younger people or who prefer a more agressive look. VW on the other hand more toned down/conservative.
Why get two of the same model? And it's so expensive anyways, I'm not a Tesla fan but the standard ID.3 being so close to a Tesla model 3 with half the performance and smaller car and range is not ok.
Ive been driving one every 2nd day as part of car sharing in Germany. Its nothing close to brilliant. It's average at best. No wonder it flopped in China
I actually like this ID.3 GTX. I'm a Golf GTI fanatic, so I guess it's not too surprising that I'd like seeing the GTI formula applied to the ID.3. I like the idea of a performance tuned compact hatch with rwd and ample power. With the SSP Mk9 electric Golf GTI going back to front wheel drive, this is likely to be the only Golf sized rwd hot hatch from VW ever. Thanks, Thomas, for another informative and in-depth review. Can't wait for the driving video.
They are getting round to fixing all the flaws with the ID3. It is exactly the form factor I would like to get. I was disappointed when saw the cheap interior at launch. It is starting to get there. Here in Malta the price will probably remain ridiculously high.
Why can they replace the rear axle, but they can't replace the buttons on the steering wheel? They even have a suitable steering wheel with physical buttons available, the one used on Skoda Enyaq.
Gloss black as the door handle is really not a good idea. Other than that, I really like it. I personally like capacitive buttons. Anyway, I’d buy it for sure if they brought to the US.

Hot hatchback weighing 1.9 tons??? Acceleration dynamics 7.3 seconds??? just like a ten year old Skoda Octavia 1.8??? Maximum speed 180 km/h ??? Is it a little hotter than the Ford Transit??? but no, it’s not hotter, since the battery at that speed will be discharged in 15 minutes. A laggy 5-inch thick tablet straight out of 2010??? or is this a green initiative: reusing components straight from the Chinese garbage dump??? The trunk is the size of a glove box??? GPT chatbot that will transfer your personal data to third party companies??? And then it will update and offer you a paid subscription to turn signals??? (just like a BMW) And all this pleasure for some measly 50 thousand euros??? Give me two please, one light green with a rainbow interior for my wife, but for myself I’ll probably take the brown one with a pink interior since it will have a higher residual value.
So, a worse ID7 in terms of range, interior quality, shorter wheelbase, still on the bad steering wheel buttons, still no commitment on OTA updates.. The only performance parts are some special wheels, different colors and trim. All that for the same asking price of an ID7. Im not sold on this one sorry.
They better call it the "GTX-line". Please don't call it an Performance EV when there al a lot of EV's much faster and NOT pretending to be an perfomance model. I like the styling tho.
7:31 whomever chose to implement this rear window control should never be hired in the design industry again, absolutely unacceptable user experience. It's a CAR, all major controls should be tactile and accessible without the need to sight, this also makes all the #capacitiveBS stuff unacceptable too of course. I drive an old 1 series convertible and you know what my most used buttons are? My rear window switches, and my FIFTH window switch that controls all 4 at once and tactilly feels different to the others so I know exactly what I'm doing without taking my eyes off the road. I drop all 4 windows (and its pillar less obviously) unless it's very very wet or freezing, ans having dedicated controls for such things is vital to my daily driving. It boggles my mind that people work in this industry, get paid a fortune, and are still thick as shit.
This should be the standard trim exterior. Just like an iPhone or Tesla they have all versions which have a similar exterior. By creating a lower trim version which looks cheaper you damage the brand and the entire range.
The touchbuttons on the stearingwheel are so useless, I really hate them (sorry) and same for the open-windows buttons. Just so strange that a development-departement at VW could give that a good to go 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️. A really great car if you can ’forgive’ this
My brother owns an ID.3 he got before Tesla started cutting prices. It's a pretty neat car. A lot of the so called software issues either are well in the past or were overblown to begin with. But today the value just isn't there. You have to severely dislike Tesla's form factors or the MG4 to contemplate one.
I think VW has learnt a lot from the disappointment of the ID3 (to be fair they aren't bad just very medium). The efficiency improvements and slowly making interior changes that are needed. Still sad to see they aren't in place yet. I heard that the Cupra Born Vz will have regen paddles.
RWD and the power seems pretty cool, but the looks, man.. The front end just looks like some average econobox. Not my cup of tea, and it'll probably cost >52.000€.
Id3 design Still weird to me. It looks like an aquarium or big bubble... Golf has Still perfect proportions... I think VW should build like golf but with on steroid 😂. I mean ioniq 5 for example it looks like big delta integrale 😅. Think about it VW ❤
This car is far away from brilliant. Totally flopped in China. And also in Europe noone is buying it now, after the early adopter phase has ended. Hyundai/Kia, China-Brands and Tesla are a lot better!
I think the main problem that remains with this car is the price. Its estimated price in Germany is just over €50k which is outrageous for a car this size. The user interface is mostly an annoyance, but it doesn't help in the context of price. If it dropped to €40k, that would still be high but getting there. The larger battery and the more efficient electric motor brought WLTP estimate to 600 km, which is excellent for a car of this size (400-450 km is common for the segment as of now) and the main way this car stands out, as of currently. The strengthened rear axle is the single most important update in my opinion due to the bike rack + 5 seats and it massively improves the value proposition and prospective customer base. I think it's nearly inevitable though that the whole ID.3 range, including this trim, will get significant price cuts in the future beyond existing rebates. The Kia EV3 has the same range, more practicality, better UX and ability to tow while also going to be much cheaper, which will significantly limit the competitiveness of this car.
The buttons för volume and ’next song/next radiochannel ; they are completly wrong ! It should be ; Higher volume = Up. Lower volume = Down. Next song/Channel = Right. Previous song/channel = Left. Isn’t that obvious for every driver …? 🤷🏻♂️. What do you think ?

This should have been the original base line launch model. Glad VW is listening to the customers and improve software, bring back more physical buttons and so on. In the future I hope they make a really good, class leading bespoke electric golf GTI that matches or surpasses the specs on the model 3 performance. Then I’ll be first in line to get one!

They are for sure proud about the entire car not the stubid discussion about, who ist the fastest. VW holds the record for electric and all Cars including ICEs to pikes Peak and could add more Power if they are really planning it. This acceleration is similiar to entry 911s some years ago, which tells how idiotic this discussion is.
@@josefv-y8mWell that's the issue with this ID3. Even as a whole package it is not something extraordinary. Especially in the EV segment when you consider the pricing of the ID3. I'm really afraid that prices for these sporty versions will be ridiculous. (and the sales figures already showed that it is not so successful model so far) Therefore I would expect at leaast something more special from this performance oriented variant if it can't compete on the other fronts. However I do agree with you about this ridiculousness of the acceleration numbers and I totally dig vehicles such as Toyota GR86. I even own the vehicle from VW group, so I watch them closely. However I do have an impression that they are really struggling with their EV lineup identity and on some fronts they are years behind (such as laggy infotainment and terrible UX). Hopefully they will catch up soon, so they don't became obsolete in the next decade.
I don't like the trendy raised belt line at the C-pillar. Second, the sunroof that doesn't open. The other annoying trend in the car industry is the application of race car seats with integrated head restraints. These are family cars, not race cars. The wheels are all ugly and weak looking. A set of aggressive wheels can make or break a car. I prefer the smaller infotainment display. The 13' is more than big enough and doesn't sit higher than the dash without being overwhelming. In any event, VW suffers badly from its under powered mandate. Please keep putting the USB on the mirror (and maybe the rear window too) for the dash cam. @14:30 Lincoln Nautilus has the best center arm rest/cup holder combo. The cup holders flip down and even a little bit of storage. A car can never have too many storage cubbies.
As dull, boring and uninspired as a car can be priced in at a ridiculous €50k. At the same time, Xiaomi is showing what is possible for $40k with the new S07 in China. Good night, Volkswagen.
😴💤😴💤😴💤 The front and side-profile styling is a snoozefest. The rear actually looks nice, but is marred by the odd black-contrast coloring that hides some of the nice body pannels and clean design.
Interior still looks like an after thought with screens attached here and there. Also infotainment still looks sluggish, how come my cheap 5 year old Android tablet is smoother than a brand new car that costs thousands. And why have a gtx and two version . Once we just had a normal car and then a gti version. Prefer the Renault 5 ev.

Per carità, mamma VW ultimamente stà facendo sulle elettriche certi errori che le costeranno cari, ma come hanno fatto sulla versione col motore da 326 a montare un solo motore posteriore, e come avevano già anticipato 2 anni fà che doveva essere integrale, hanno aspettato tutto questo tempo per farla così ?? . e su .. infatti in Cupra molto più attenti al mercato hanno lanciato la BORN VZ AWD che monta 2 motori, sempre con i 326 cv .. tra l'altro più aggressiva della ID3 ... e poi nel 2024 ancora la ID3 con i poggia gomiti reclinabili come i pulman dal 1950 che non centra neanche il gomito di 1 bambino di 10 anni ..
I really don’t like that they place your towbar at the buttom of the trunk. They should make space available for it in the frunk. You’ll always need that stuff when the trunk is full.

So, a worse ID7 in terms of range, interior quality, shorter wheelbase, still on the bad steering wheel buttons, still no commitment on OTA updates.. The only performance parts are some special wheels, different colors and trim. All that for the same asking price of an ID7. Im not sold on this one sorry.

7:31 whomever chose to implement this rear window control should never be hired in the design industry again, absolutely unacceptable user experience. It's a CAR, all major controls should be tactile and accessible without the need to sight, this also makes all the #capacitiveBS stuff unacceptable too of course. I drive an old 1 series convertible and you know what my most used buttons are? My rear window switches, and my FIFTH window switch that controls all 4 at once and tactilly feels different to the others so I know exactly what I'm doing without taking my eyes off the road. I drop all 4 windows (and its pillar less obviously) unless it's very very wet or freezing, ans having dedicated controls for such things is vital to my daily driving. It boggles my mind that people work in this industry, get paid a fortune, and are still thick as shit.
And Teslas?
This should be the standard trim exterior. Just like an iPhone or Tesla they have all versions which have a similar exterior. By creating a lower trim version which looks cheaper you damage the brand and the entire range.
The touchbuttons on the stearingwheel are so useless, I really hate them (sorry) and same for the open-windows buttons. Just so strange that a development-departement at VW could give that a good to go 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️. A really great car if you can ’forgive’ this

My brother owns an ID.3 he got before Tesla started cutting prices. It's a pretty neat car. A lot of the so called software issues either are well in the past or were overblown to begin with. But today the value just isn't there. You have to severely dislike Tesla's form factors or the MG4 to contemplate one.

I think VW has learnt a lot from the disappointment of the ID3 (to be fair they aren't bad just very medium). The efficiency improvements and slowly making interior changes that are needed. Still sad to see they aren't in place yet. I heard that the Cupra Born Vz will have regen paddles.

This car is far away from brilliant. Totally flopped in China. And also in Europe noone is buying it now, after the early adopter phase has ended. Hyundai/Kia, China-Brands and Tesla are a lot better!

I think the main problem that remains with this car is the price. Its estimated price in Germany is just over €50k which is outrageous for a car this size. The user interface is mostly an annoyance, but it doesn't help in the context of price. If it dropped to €40k, that would still be high but getting there. The larger battery and the more efficient electric motor brought WLTP estimate to 600 km, which is excellent for a car of this size (400-450 km is common for the segment as of now) and the main way this car stands out, as of currently. The strengthened rear axle is the single most important update in my opinion due to the bike rack + 5 seats and it massively improves the value proposition and prospective customer base.
I think it's nearly inevitable though that the whole ID.3 range, including this trim, will get significant price cuts in the future beyond existing rebates. The Kia EV3 has the same range, more practicality, better UX and ability to tow while also going to be much cheaper, which will significantly limit the competitiveness of this car.
Not even if you gave it away for free!

The buttons för volume and ’next song/next radiochannel ; they are completly wrong ! It should be ; Higher volume = Up. Lower volume = Down. Next song/Channel = Right. Previous song/channel = Left. Isn’t that obvious for every driver …? 🤷🏻♂️. What do you think ?

I would have liked to replace my e-Golf with an ID.3, but VW had little to over, so now it'll be a Volvo EX30
The Volvo is much smaller with no drivers screen or buttons. That’s a no for me.
This should have been the original base line launch model.
Glad VW is listening to the customers and improve software, bring back more physical buttons and so on.
In the future I hope they make a really good, class leading bespoke electric golf GTI that matches or surpasses the specs on the model 3 performance.

tbh 0-100 in 5.6 for top of the range performance version is not something to be proud of in 2024 EV
They are for sure proud about the entire car not the stubid discussion about, who ist the fastest.
VW holds the record for electric and all Cars including ICEs to pikes Peak and could add more Power if they are really planning it.
This acceleration is similiar to entry 911s some years ago, which tells how idiotic this discussion is.

I'm really afraid that prices for these sporty versions will be ridiculous. (and the sales figures already showed that it is not so successful model so far)
Therefore I would expect at leaast something more special from this performance oriented variant if it can't compete on the other fronts.
However I do agree with you about this ridiculousness of the acceleration numbers and I totally dig vehicles such as Toyota GR86.
I even own the vehicle from VW group, so I watch them closely. However I do have an impression that they are really struggling with their EV lineup identity and on some fronts they are years behind (such as laggy infotainment and terrible UX). Hopefully they will catch up soon, so they don't became obsolete in the next decade.

I don't like the trendy raised belt line at the C-pillar. Second, the sunroof that doesn't open. The other annoying trend in the car industry is the application of race car seats with integrated head restraints. These are family cars, not race cars. The wheels are all ugly and weak looking. A set of aggressive wheels can make or break a car.
I prefer the smaller infotainment display. The 13' is more than big enough and doesn't sit higher than the dash without being overwhelming. In any event, VW suffers badly from its under powered mandate. Please keep putting the USB on the mirror (and maybe the rear window too) for the dash cam.
@14:30 Lincoln Nautilus has the best center arm rest/cup holder combo. The cup holders flip down and even a little bit of storage. A car can never have too many storage cubbies.

The front and side-profile styling is a snoozefest. The rear actually looks nice, but is marred by the odd black-contrast coloring that hides some of the nice body pannels and clean design.
This looks like what I expected Toyota to do with their updated Prius.
Interior still looks like an after thought with screens attached here and there. Also infotainment still looks sluggish, how come my cheap 5 year old Android tablet is smoother than a brand new car that costs thousands.
