During Marine week of USMC boot camp you're allowed to go the PX and get items like a watch. Which for 11 weeks you had no idea of what time it was unless you were on fire watch. The drill instructors recommend we get a watch and suggested a G-Shock. I kept that watch through 3 deployments to Afghan and it always worked perfectly. It was stolen out of my car 6 years later right off base. I miss that watch but it lasted FOREVER. But you can always buy a new one but still. Great job on the video Teddy and team!

I bought this watch in October of 2023 and have been wearing it every work day since. If you work blue collar, I recommend this watch all the way. I work for maintenance and construction for a water company so in the short months that I’ve had this watch, I’ve made sure to put it through hell. Water, concrete, sewer, swinging hammers constant vibration and impacts that come with working with your hands aren’t enough to kill this watch. Also, while some may find the buttons hard operate, the fact that they are recessed help with the accidental pushing of them while working in awkward angles.
Robust. No nonsense. I highly recommend

This is my only watch, and I absolutely love it. It's on my wrist all day, every day, and has never once let me down. It's been smashed into walls, dropped off a balcony, put through the washing machine, brought skiing, hit by paintballs, been left in a muddy puddle for a day, and been to the bottom of the harbour, and all I need to do in return is set it twice a year.
I'm planning on buying myself a decent dive watch for my 17th (to actually bring diving - unheard of, I know), but I'll never sell the G-Shock. I wouldn't trust anything else on my wrist on a hike or camp.

This exact model is the g-shock in my collection. Never have to worry about the battery or setting the time, in fact this is the watch I set any other watch to when I put them on in the morning. I think it can't be overstated that while the case shape does look strange and a little off putting in pictures or in the watch box, there are few things that beat it for feel and look when it's actually on wrist. Also a great feature I've heard no video mention, while i eagerly await my back ordered Christopher Ward Bel Canto, my g-shock and casio world timer both chime on the hour for me and will be doing so along with that Bel Canto when it arrives.

This particular one has been with me for 10+ years and has never let me down, despite all the harsh conditions it's been through. It's always been my favorite for daily use. I also have a classic Seiko, not grand, just a regular one, which is perfect for formal events. So, Casio and Seiko have been like two good friends, always around me for all these years. I have the base DW5600, it is just a solid all round watch. I use it as my watch for any physical work that involves potential damage. Funny I bring it in and run some water over it and it looks like new again. It kind of is both a tool but also lives in my watch box as just a nice watch. I am a big G-Shock fan and my favourites are my GG1000-1a5 Mudmaster and GA-700-2A. They are big watches which I like but worth noting that they are thick enough to make putting work gloves on and off at least noticeable. The 5600 you don’t even notice working in and keeps a lower profile when working around things that might catch on a watch which can be a plus.

I have a DW-5600E ($50) which I believe is the no frills version of the original. No solar, No atomic time; 10 year battery life...the same that the rechargeable solar; but cheaper battery replacement. I live where no atomic signal is available, so no need. I have over 20 watches, and I wear my g-shock at least once a weeK...more than some in my collection.

People sleep on the GW-B5600 series, which has the classic square looks, still has atomic sync, and also had Bluetooth time sync for when you’re out of range of the atomic clock. They’re absolutely amazing.

While doing clearing out some old bits I rediscovered a collection of G-Shocks I had bought in America and also was gifted as I was touring with a music artist. One of them was the GW-5625E, one of the 25th anniversary editions. The screen was of, but after some time charging up the solar battery it’s been alive and kicking, syncing every night and made me sell my Apple Watch and some of the other G Shocks. It originally had the see through jelly strap, which I changed to an all black, so now it’s a black and gold look and just gets on with life. I may still pickup a 5610 with steel core, but this one is doing me well as I’ve worn it everyday since the summer of 2023. All these years later, a bit of sun and it’s working like normal. Love it

Awesome watch & module. I have the GW5000U which is basically the more premium version of this watch at $250-$300 but has the exact same module. It comes with better resin & full DLC coated stainless steel core & screw down caseback, but the 5610 is definitely a better bang for your buck. My other G is a GW-7900. Even though it wears a little larger, it's not too bad. I like it a little better because it can display 2 timezones simultaneously, plus shows moon, tide, and mini-timer simultaneously.

I owe a lot of wonderful watches, but I’ve never lost my love for this precise G-Shock. It is among my most worn pieces and I just adore the practical functionality it offers. This watch caused me to buy an MRG square, a TVA as well as a Stainless Square - but this humble but really tough and charismatic 5610 remains my favorite Gshock and it’s among my top 3 favorite watches - mechanical pieces and all. Brilliant as always......... I.ve had many Gs, mostly Casioaks, but also a number of squares.
I've now got just 2, the "5000U" solely made in Japan, for the Japanese market. The strap is superior and the case back is screwdown.
It's far more expensive, but in my view the ultimate Gshock square.

It weighs nothing, keeps PERFECT time, and I will never ever have to worry about it. I'm glad that the general hate for quartz watches seems to be diminishing in the watch enthusiast community, but I think having a solar powered quartz watch is almost just as cool as having an automatic watch. I would say the DW-5600 would be a better choice since it is relatively cheaper and you don’t need to get a solar charger if your battery drains. Also the Multiband while sounds good on paper its reception highly depends upon your geographic location and weather conditions. I would say unless you work in an environment where Bluetooth is not allowed get a Bluetooth G-Shock instead. I don’t think swapping battery would be an issue for water resistance if you place the water seal back correctly. You don’t need a professional maintaining a G-Shock.
