- A day out, 3 bikes out playing in the heart of central Wales, running through the Cambrian Mountains.
The Gospel Pass is the highest road pass in Wales, located in the Black Mountains of southeast Wales. It is situated at the head of the Vale of Ewyas. The pass has an elevation of 549 meters (1,801 feet) above sea level and is accessible via a narrow mountain road that climbs steeply from Hay-on-Wye. The road sits between the mountains of Twmpa to the west and Hay Bluff to the east before dropping down into the valley to the south on its way to Llanthony Priory, Llanfihangel Crucorney, and Abergavenny
The Devils Staircase
The road is located on the boundary of Powys and Ceredigion counties, in the heart of central Wales, running through the Cambrian Mountains. It’s called Abergwesyn Road. It’s said to be one of the best roads in the whole Wales. The area is really remote and truly makes you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. A part of the road is known as Devil’s Staircase: a set of hairpin turns hitting a 20.1% of maximum gradient.

Thanks for the info, it's a lack of area knowledge I guess.
Nice ride. Did you have to turn around on the Gospel? I'm hoping to ride it from Abergavveny side over to Haye but ive never been that way before?
Thanks @milesf7601, we turned around @ 9.52 in the vid just to ride back over it again but i think the road carried on by the look of it but I'm not sure where it leads so please check.
From Abergavenny, head east past The Oasis Café to the big roundabout, then take the Hereford road to Llanfihangel Crucornau/Llanvihangel Crucorney. Follow the signs for Llanthony Priory and the road continues through Capel y Ffin to the Gospel Pass and Hay-on-Wye. Possible problem is the landslip between the Priory and Capel y Ffin. There have been "Road Closed" signs for a couple of years, but no barriers. A couple of weeks ago they were working on the road. I was able to go through, but there were fences present, so the road might actually be closed sometimes.
@rickmancr Thankyou for the info, I’ll keep it in mind for next time as it’s to good not to go back again 👍
I see no "road closed" sign ;-)
Technically your right haha
Shame about the weather but looked like a good day out
‘‘Twas a good day bud, only a small amount of rain.
