Yes the thing about motorcycle travel, weather crossing Europe on the motorbike or your local town, with a positive mindset you can have a great adventure no matter where you are..
Go slow see more is the moral of the story on this tour! We learnt allot our self’s doing the trip, the route home over the alps was spectacular though
I lived in Germany from 1989 - 1995, toured all over Europe on a Harley Davidson, rode north to Denmark and south to Souther Italy and Southern Spain, went west to Poland. Loved traveling by bike over there.
We love to ride in Germany, stay tuned and we will do a bit there on the way home. Ewa is from Poland so we have ridden there from England too. Where did you move too?
I moved back to the States. I was in the military. Loved riding in Europe, still have lots of friends who all ride that live in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and France. Miss the great roads. I’m in Texas now and it takes 5 - 12 hours just to get out of Texas from where we live.
@@johnost8128 Awesome that you have got to travel so much and ride in so many different places. Good to have friends all over the globe that ride, a great excuse for a trip 😉
Hi, just watched and subscribed. I used to work in France for some years and yes the motorways can be very boring. What you need if you go again is a Liber t tag. It costs like €2 a month only in the month you use it and gets you straight through the tolls upto 30km an hour. Charges your card automatically for what you use. Can get them online, stick it on front of bike and piece of piss straight through.
Hi Jaine, thanks so much. Perhaps we will do some longer specials in time, for now you've lots to watch on the channel! Thanks so much for joining us on the channel

@@bikerbuddy3166 wow sounds like you both were very lucky in your careers. I’ve always tried to make my work link in with my love for motorcycles, and that’s one of the reasons the TH-cam channel came about. Who knows what may come of it…. For now it’s any excuse to surround myself with bikes!
Really enjoying this, thank you! Sometimes the urge to push on- especially at night when tired can be tougher option but it’s down to personal choice and context isn’t it? I did the opposite and went with the N roads so took longer but that was decades ago and I camped. Wishing you both many happy miles 👍🇬🇧
Awesome thanks, Yes motorways are not normally our thing but we had a time restriction to get to Rome so had to suffer a long day to make time for the nice stuff, getting home took us much much longer as we took a very scenic route as you’ll see

We learnt allot on this trip, We will do a video at the end of the series and share what we learnt. It seems other people also found ways "Around" the tolls on here
Well done to both of you, that's some distance in a day. Particularly when you add night riding to it as well. Loved the fact you got lost and struggled at toll booths as its something I have done many times. It never bothered me but a few times I was with others that would whinge & moan but weren't prepared to lead. Thankfully I now mainly tour by myself. Looking forward to your next video and roll on Spring 2024.
Thanks! We try to be as real on camera as we are in person and not just show highlights but the whole story, mistakes included! This is the true reality of motorcycle travel not the instagram version 👍 Travelling is only enjoyable in the right company, we are very lucky we get to do what we love together and share it with you all on here. Hopefully we will keep everyone entertained until the sun comes back out!
Are you on something or what ! Who' s complaining. If you've ever used them, or are you a keyboard nerd, you would know that it's quite common to have ticket problems going through the booths. It's part of the whole experience what is unusual is for TH-camrs to show the reality of it. Bit easier in the 60s !
@@johndaniell887 The toll road is great if your sole goal is to get from A to B as quick as possible, which is why we were there. The reality though as shown in the video is that they just don’t work for bikers particularly well.
@@2wheelsrbest327 Strange how the traditional for TH-camrs has been to edit out these realities of motorcycle travel only highlighting the great…. Maybe this will be to our mistake but we want to show the true story on good days and bad. When we watch other videos online we get bothered by not being shown how or where they got accommodation for example and any issues we may encounter there….. what did you eat for lunch, the local food options and costs etc…. We love to watch others on their travels but we want to learn from your lessons and mistakes too before we go there!
Doing 500 + miles on bike is no fun if you arrive late at your hotel! I have done that year's ago. This time i did about 400 for 2 days then about 550 for the last bit back to UK,would of got a hotel around Folkstone but prices were too high so i did the extra miles back to Cambridge, weather was ok.Yes the motorways are boring in France but there are some nice places there,it's a big country,i like it,UK is always congested with traffic and the French roads are really good,UK roads are rubbish.I drive to Italy each year, even Italian roads are better than UK roads.I stopped at Beaune near Lyon, very nice place, lots of hotels and good food.I take Tunnel de Frejus route to Italy then to Turin.Good luck with holiday rides and take it easy!
This was our first go at the French toll roads, and probably our last! It does save time but definitely not money and it’s no fun, we need to find a better route to cross France each time we go away! Any suggestions? There must be some good places to see…
Only watched a couple of your videos so far but what is appealing is that your experiences are relatable. Probably like most of us all my trips are on a strict budget so McDs suits me along with budget hotels.Like you arrive late leave early so all I need is a clean & tidy room.Sadly now too old for camping !.
Thanks so Much, This is Exactly what we are going for! theres allot of content out there for people with deep pockets, but what about the rest of us who cannot afford thousand pound Jackets and gear, or Fancy eateries at each stop.... We would rather out our money into our petrol tank and have Experience over luxury, although like you we tried camping and i am not a fan lol! You should see our two camoping videos if you want a good laugh! Next Episode will be up at 6pm
We love them, I found the seat a bit uncomfortably hard on this trip but we do ride them for very long periods of time, I hadn’t noticed a problem before this epic trip
Do you think you’ll miss your old bike then? I haven’t ridden a Guzzi yet, il have to change that! Yes definitely film your trip, we love to watch other people’s and see how your adventures go…
Did a tour from Milan to the Dolomites last August. The tolls always seem to be a colossal headache. The motorway tollbooths were anything but intuitive to an American. Cash? Apple Pay? Credit card? No two seemed to work the same. Drove me and my riding buddy crazy.
yes we had the same story, have you seen our summery video on this tour ; What we learnt.... There are some useful solutions in that video for the tolls
Thanks so much for Joining us in the road, we really appreciate your comments and glad your enjoying the series. We will put out new episodes every weds, Friday and Sunday but there’s lots more content on the channel to fill the gaps! We go all over the place! What do you ride?

These bikes 🤤🤤🤤 fair play making an engaging vid of just motorways! Not easy but ye did a great job! Yer lovely new tires will be nice and square now ; p Roughly how much did the tolls cost for one bike to cross France (not including petrol)?
Hi, yes the square tyres thought did cross our minds too lol but bikes are for using, they are consumable so might aswell use it and abuse it for as long as possible! I love to see high mileage bikes, they always come with stories and memories attached. Not sure on the overall cost of tolls yet we will do a video soon talking about the trip with a break down of costs etc and see if it was actually worth it
We did Limoges to Dieppe avoiding tolls in 1 day, definitely much cheaper than your journey. I agree about the boring scenery in France. We were there in July 2018 and it was mile after mile of flat virtually straight roads and 100s of miles of SunFlower Fields. 14 hours in the saddle........ouch. Love this video
I agree, we live near Limoges and sometimes not using the toll roads can be just as quick, all it takes is a bad trip around Paris and the toll roads cost you so much time. I can't believe you went to Italy without a couple of inner tubes and tyre levers
Congrats bud, it’s nice to know when you put out content people are interested in seeing, maybe this bike will turn out to be a huge boost to your channel too!
How can you say france is the biggest coubtry of F all. Its hugely diverse, best off motorway roads, great village's, mountain roads and more. Id like to know where you think theres vastly more...
We found on previous tours going through France the slow way to be a problem finding places to stop, cafes etc are often closed. Northern France I like due to the history stuff. I’m sure France has more to offer but we have not found to much as of yet, we much rather blast through and get to Switzerland etc. What would you say are the highlights of France, must see places? I will add them to our map for the next time we pass through
I have stopped travelling through france when driving to Italy. IT'S BORING! my prefered route from the Chunnel is to head up to Bruge, Ghent, skirt around Brussels to Namur, Luxemburg, Mets(only bit of France), Strasbourg, Offenburg Freiburg, Basel, Luzern then across Switzerland. no tolls except for Metz bit. It's been a while since I last did this route but its tons better than the monotony of French motorways and Switzerland is a great way through to Italy. Only bind is the road tax you have to pay through switzerland. If you can, try and get hold of a electronic motorway account to ride italian motorways so you don't have all the faff with toll booths
The old bike was faster and higher revving. I find that one rides to the type of bike. The Guzzi is much lower revving and can cruise easily at 80 to 85 so fast enough in the real world. I love the 22 litre tank too. My Kawasaki was an excellent bike. It’s hard to compare, equal but different. There is a saying ride a Guzzi for five minutes and you will hate it. Ride one for an hour and you won’t go back. Done a video on my first impressions
I’m new to your channel, clearly France “took its toll on both of you” towards the end of the journey! Your conversations are ‘entertaining’ and sometimes bordering on disagreement which is pretty normal. As a matter of interest are you aware of ‘Sean & Emily’, a biking couple on TH-cam? ….nice couple and excellent content but the polar opposite of you two !! …they agree on everything all the time!). Both channels excellent in their own way🤪
Lol thanks so much, we are unapologetically ourselves, we don’t do fake, we love to have a laugh and wind each other up in our own fun ways. Glad you can join us on the road. Yes we watch a great deal of TH-cam and know of Sean and Emily we watch so much motorcycle travel content, we are Moto obsessed, when I’m not at work with bikes, I’m riding them or watching them on TH-cam!
Those tolls aren't cheap! We decided to stick our two bikes in my van to do the journey from Caan to Bourg st Maurice in the French Alps. It probably cost us €100 each way on the toll motorways. We did ride all the way around Mont Blanc, France, Switzerland, Italy and back to Bourg in France in one day. Love that area.
Stunning place to be to ride bikes, we have done it in the summer and again in October, we were amazed to find we had the passes to ourselves in October, don’t know where all these adventure bikers are at?!
@convertorx I've ridden that 530 miles before but had to break it into two days. We were at our accommodation by 5.30pm after starting at Caan ferry at 7.30am. We then rode all week in the Alps. What's wrong with that? We ride an MT10 and Street Triple and that toll road journey is zero fun on those bikes and Multiple fuel stops. It's all explained on our channel
@@Banditmanuk Is it true those tolls know if you been speeding between them and charge you more if you have? That would be a problem on the MT10, that bike likes to go!
Got a trip to Australia next year Brisbane to cairns & back on motorbikes some wild camping with the critters :)😅 . 4000 miles never riden that far . Adventures are a life time of Memories Ro
Sounds amazing! You will love it, here’s my advice, plan as little as possible, it matters less than you think, have an adventure not a script. Take each day, or 50 mile way point at a time, don’t think about the total journey until you’ve done it 👍
It will be my 4 trip to Australia 🇦🇺 that all have been motorcycle hoildays . I have a friend that I met on TH-cam & invited me over . We go for rides out for Brisbane . The longest ride we did in one day was a 12 hour ride down to a place called Texas & back . He has a channel called Roads I've Ridden . You will see me on there . I am riding a R3 which one would say that's a small bike but it is been brilliant. Super fuel Efficient & comfortable for me .
Get a toll tag, 20 euro deposit for the tag, 2 euro a month for max of two months in a year. pay by direct debit about two months later and all the tolls are viewable online so you can request a change if you've been charged the wrong rate. I've had to press the button once in about 100 tolls so it's pretty reliable except if cars drive up your arse as it confuses the sensors. No taking gloves off which is great if it's raining! I wouldn't back to paper tickets again.
Excellent Tip, We will do exactly this next time if we have to do toll roads again. Youd think the locals would know not to follow bikes into the toll booth as it just holds everyone up everytime
@@ontheroadadventure you'd think! Sometimes with the tag it can take about 30secs to register but a fair amount of the time I ride without putting my feet down 😁 Don't use the tags in the lanes with the 30kph sign as that's for cars only, or rather you'll be charged full whack if you go through those.

There’s definitely a story to be had there….?! It did save us a day travelling through France which we needed as we set off so last minute and had to be in Rome a few days later, but yes absolutely for what’s to come next sit was definitely worth it
@@ontheroadadventure if you are lucky with the weather like I was, all four routes are brilliant. One tip though, check out where cafe's and petrol stations are before you head out on each route, because some of the loops avoid major towns and take you down scenic roads. You occasionally need to leave the route by a mile or two in order to find food / petrol. On other loops there are plenty of opportunities. I am going back up in May to ride the North and West loops again. Also, Kona, who runs the web site and designed the routes is super nice and super helpful.
French Autoroutes, great tarmac, lots of services but those godamn toll machines! I usually go to South Brittany and the A84 from Caen to Rennes is free, no machines at all. Awesome adventure I'm envious
Honestly the tolls were not only Costly but a real pain in the Butt! Messing around with the machines that rarely worked without needing help, Gloves on and off searching for the phone or card to pay, just all very problematic. The cost of the tolls and getting ripped off at the motorway fuel pumps means it is probably more cost effective and enjoyable to just take another day and do the Scenic route through France and stay in a hotel.... Our route home was much better, but youll have to wait and see how that went...
I hope to ride to the Guzzi factory next year through France then into Italy. I will avoid all the toll autoroutes. You’ve confirmed my opinions of them

Great video, also great to show what not to do really! ..on the negative side ... why do so many many miles in one day if you are not going to be able to enjoy the ride? If you had to be somewhere such as - ferry/event/hospital that's different, but if you are not going to able to enjoy the ride then the mile munchin' seems pointless and wasted money on tolls plus then having to ride even longer to accommodation when you are already tired!!? Also riding at night unless you absolutely have to is a big no.. You don't get to enjoy the scenery and it takes the risk factor even higher, why put yourself in a situation you can avoid ? .. I thought it was supposed to be a nice tour to enjoy? Even those who are experienced biker vloggers on utube avoid riding at night unless it's absolutely essential...please take care and enjoy your trip, love to hear your stories and adventures, but cant do that if you take too many risks 🙂
Hi, we absolutely agree with what you say. We wouldn't normally use motorways and tolls but the time scale meant we had to. Sure most normal people would take the logical option and fly but we set ourselves a goal and we had a blast doing it...... Most of the time lol
Bloody he’ll they no how to charge on them tolls😮. 500 miles that is some distance you have covered. Motorway riding so bloody boring mate. You will soon hit the good stuff , keep safe both of you 👍👍
Thanks Andrew, Yes this was our First and last time doing the French Toll roads on the Motorbike. We thought we would save a days travel and therefore the cost of a hotel for an additional night but with the cost of Service station fuel, and us both paying tolls every few miles we soon realised it was a mistake. Literally Highway Robbery! Cant wait to show you all some amazing stuff on Friday, it gets amazing here on in....
You are absolutely correct. This is the first and last time we did this. The home to Rome series is based off of an idea a day before we were supposed to fly to Rome to ride instead which meant a tight time schedule on the way there. We did the alps, Black Forest etc on the way home and did our usual go slow see more approach
My original comment appears to have got lost so, like I said if you ride side by side into the toll booth you only have to pay for one bike rather than two! (Down there for dancing)
Fancy explaining your actions in French and having your holiday interrupted by going to a cash point with a gendarme to save a few quid? And make them more difficult for bikes in the future? Maybe do less dancing 😂
I've enjoyed watching your videos, but I'm afraid i am having to unsubscribe.. my grandson watches them with me and the unnecessary swearing is the cause. We watch lots of motorcycle videos and there is no need for the language. Apart from that, they are great. I'll check in now and again. Enjoy the ride. Stay safe. 👍
We have travelled through france a few times, We The motorways obviously we expected and accept to see nothing, but we have done the small roads a couple times the length of france and often finding a coffee shop etc is a nightmare. We Must be taking the wrong areas or roads or something! We havent yet done the balcony roads yet which do look good
How can you say "France is the biggest country of fuck all". If you think that, you obviously somehow miraculously, ride your bikes with your eyes closed. Perhaps because your touring style is to ride through France on motorways doing nothing but moan and not take in all the brilliant changing landscapes through France on A roads. And if you insist on using motorways to do your travels, just pay the tolls and less moaning.
You are not following the tour from the beginning so don’t understand the reason we are travelling this way on this tour. This is however the first and last time we ever travel like this on motorways!

You two are really good together!

Another great video guys, this is great to learn from. Keep up the good work guys, go safe.
Hi you go on about the toll roads but thy have been there more year then you're age what are you complaining about
Are you on something or what !
The uk roads are becoming dangerous in their condition sadly
I agree the roads I saw in France and Italy this year are alot better,UK road's are a disgrace and poor condition for motorcycle's!
I’d be absolutely fuming having to go back to find the accommodation 😂
No sense in getting upset with these things, all part of the journey in the end ain’t it… We live and learn!
What are them areas with the barriers and the traffic lights? Never used them on my travels in Europe 😅
This was our first go at the French toll roads, and probably our last! It does save time but definitely not money and it’s no fun, we need to find a better route to cross France each time we go away! Any suggestions? There must be some good places to see…

Not sure on the overall cost of tolls yet we will do a video soon talking about the trip with a break down of costs etc and see if it was actually worth it
Thanks so Much bud, We will be making a video very shortly with total costs etc and we want to answer any questions you may have for us?
We did Limoges to Dieppe avoiding tolls in 1 day, definitely much cheaper than your journey. I agree about the boring scenery in France. We were there in July 2018 and it was mile after mile of flat virtually straight roads and 100s of miles of SunFlower Fields. 14 hours in the saddle........ouch. Love this video
Ahh yes we had a similar experience crossing France last time, who knew there was so much need for sunflowers?!
I agree, we live near Limoges and sometimes not using the toll roads can be just as quick, all it takes is a bad trip around Paris and the toll roads cost you so much time. I can't believe you went to Italy without a couple of inner tubes and tyre levers
Yeah, ive always been prepared with tubes tyres carrying plugs and foam but got complacent on this one! Live and learn@@alexanderclarke2774
It’s on the channel now. 6000’views which is a lot for me
Congrats bud, it’s nice to know when you put out content people are interested in seeing, maybe this bike will turn out to be a huge boost to your channel too!
Stay Tuned we do a similar Route on the way back, We saw SOO Much! We wont be doing the French motorway again thats for sure!
Il definitely have to test that theory! Glad your enjoying it bud, will look for your vid on it 👍
I’m new to your channel, clearly France “took its toll on both of you” towards the end of the journey! Your conversations are ‘entertaining’ and sometimes bordering on disagreement which is pretty normal.

This occurred to us on the journey but didn’t know where to get it or maybe it’s only for residents?
Those tolls aren't cheap! We decided to stick our two bikes in my van to do the journey from Caan to Bourg st Maurice in the French Alps. It probably cost us €100 each way on the toll motorways.
We did ride all the way around Mont Blanc, France, Switzerland, Italy and back to Bourg in France in one day. Love that area.

Sounds amazing! You will love it, here’s my advice, plan as little as possible, it matters less than you think, have an adventure not a script. Take each day, or 50 mile way point at a time, don’t think about the total journey until you’ve done it 👍

I am riding a R3 which one would say that's a small bike but it is been brilliant. Super fuel Efficient & comfortable for me .
We have done some off road riding in the Bush up at glasshouse mountains just brilliant . That s on his channel as well
Get a toll tag, 20 euro deposit for the tag, 2 euro a month for max of two months in a year. pay by direct debit about two months later and all the tolls are viewable online so you can request a change if you've been charged the wrong rate.
Sometimes with the tag it can take about 30secs to register but a fair amount of the time I ride without putting my feet down 😁

If you had to be somewhere such as - ferry/event/hospital that's different, but if you are not going to able to enjoy the ride then the mile munchin' seems pointless and wasted money on tolls plus then having to ride even longer to accommodation when you are already tired!!?

Motorways on a motorbike? No thanks. And I travelled all over Europe. Couldn't be more boring, especially on a bike. Just my point of view.
You are absolutely correct. This is the first and last time we did this.
