    A friend asked me to get his MS171 running properly. It would start ok, but bog and stall as soon as you touched the throttle. This vid helped me sort it out, it now runs brilliantly....thank you for posting.

    I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle th-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.

    Hey Matt,
    Appreciate the simple explanation. Saws usually run pretty good. Sometimes they run real good and in the back of my mind I'm thinking 0000
    I hope this thing is holding adjustment and not gonna let go on me. I feel better about zeroing then out occasionally and making sure everyone is where they are suppose to be.
    My Brother snd Dad are not matinance people. It kills me to watch them guys run them saws out of gas. (BTW I'm a dumbass, ask em) I always say "Did ya check the crank case oil when you gassed it up?" Lol tear em up, it'll quit when I got it. Lol
    Brother: "How many years have we been running saws out of gas." I reply..." about as many years as dad has been buying chain saws"

    My MS 280 has the high speed adjustment blocked off. Instead there is an electronic connection to the carb. It is running way too rich on the high end and there is no way for me to lean it out. It's tough cutting logs at 1/2 normal rpm, any suggestions? (ps - it's been to the local dealer, new carb, new plug).

    • @btarb242

      Sounds like you still have the limiter cap on your screw. They're there just as a way to stop inexperienced people from blowing up the saw with incorrect settings.

    • @avalanchereviews2352
      @avalanchereviews2352  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Single screws are reverse thread. There is no individual adjustment for high and low. Turn it all the way in (counter clockwise) then turn it out two full turns. Start the unit, and turn the screw eithwr direction until you reach the desired idle.

      kiwi farmer anti clockwise should give it more fuel and increase the revs. The bottom screw adjusts idle

    So 2800-3000 idle and 12,000-12,500 full? Definitely going to get an rpm reader. I have a Stihl 271

    • @shortfuse43
      @shortfuse43 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stihl recommends a MAX of 12,500-13,000. I'd keep it down to 11,500 for general firewood cutting and 12,000 at MOST if you want to have a chainsaw race.

    Im able to start and idle my saw but it bogs on throttle. seems to stay that way either screw i adjust one at at a time. Carb is clean and fuel is fresh, what could be the problem on the ms210c?

    • @avalanchereviews2352
      @avalanchereviews2352  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The first thing i would check, if you haven't already is compression, needs to be around 120 psi. if that is good, the next thing I would check is the screen in the muffler. Sometimes it will plug up and cause the unit to not throttle up. If that is good, then the carb might need a slight more adjustment on the high side. The factory installs a limiter cap on the adjuster that sometimes needs to be removed to get the correct adjustment to run properly. However, you want to be careful not to go too lean with it or you could burn up the motor.

    • @avalanchereviews2352

      Could be a few things. Carb could need a slight adjustment, check the spark arrestor screen in the muffler, coil could be cutting out on a load, or it could even be a dull chain. Hope this helps with the diagnosis of your unit.
