    Excellent! I’ve read the manuals and seen many videos on chainsaw carb adjustment but this was the most succinct and helpful demonstration I’ve seen, including the counterclockwise for more fuel, clockwise for lean. I get it now. Thank you!

    Very good video💙 I didn't realize for the longest time that the little stihl screwdriver they give you, it has a little triangle on the end of the handle, its really helpful in knowing how many turns you've made when adjusting a carb💙💙💙 good on stihl for actually putting some thought into the tools they include with equipment 💙

    I’m ashamed to admit it, but I have to tell the truth. I haven’t watched one of your videos now in 2 to 3 weeks. Simply because we’ve been so busy here where we live in NW Montana. YAAK MONTANA.
    Snow removal and working on equipment to get it ready for spring. Logging season. In winter it’s simply too much work to try logging. Between getting stuck, And, tearing up equipment because of getting stuck, it’s simply not worth it.

    To anyone just learning how to adjust their carb, if you have to really adjust the screws to get it running good, then you need to check for intake boot leaks or etc, the screws shouldnt be super far off from each other example - one screw turned a 1/4 turn and the other turned 3 full turns... that is a sign that something else is wrong with your machine💙💙

    With all the complete nonsense floating around TH-cam it is ultra refreshing to see a video that basically anyone can use, and explanations as to WHY the adjustments should be done how they’re done. That 460 is pretty snappy! Very well done, and with the confidence in what you’re doing to give others the confidence to do the same! I would add…clean air filter, properly mixed fuel and known good plug, but these are givens to the experienced user. I’m a bit late on the comment but the video will be useful forever, just excellent!
    Question…what oil do YOU use? Have you seen all the oil videos?? Whaaaat??? I’ve used HP Ultra in saws, trimmers, blowers,etc for decades and never blown an engine in anything. I probably log 100 hours of “2 stroke time” a year. Why does it get such a bad rap from some if its that bad? And why would Stihl have you buy a 6 pack with a new machine to extend the warranty if it was going to cause failure which they would then have to warranty? Or….or….is this just a bunch of axe grinding on these videos I’ve seen about HP Ultra? What’s your choice and why?

    • @iffykidmn8170
      @iffykidmn8170 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      100hrs a year would be about equal to 2-3wks of regular work so it might take you 20-25yrs to equal the hours put on a production saw in one year.

    All of my spark plugs are a bit darker than anyone else's around where I live. Had one that I rebuilt, a Stihl 391, that had an almost white plug. Pulled the limiter caps off the carb, set it a bit rich, and haven't had any problems since the rebuild. My 881, which I use for milling, has a pretty dark plug, but it'll pull through anything without going lean.

    Gordy I have seen a lot of tuning videos. I mean almost all of them. I learned more in this one video than I did from all the others. Specifically about the low jet. Most every video says you want your low jet leaned out for max throttle response. But I didn’t know the low jet is feeding the high. I am going back to 1-1/4 on my L and re-tune.
    When you start tuning the low jet what position do you have the idle screw? Just at mid range?
    One other thing I’ve not seen out there is tuning of a rev limited saw. It’s real hard to do the ear method for me because the 4 stroke and the rev limiter sound so similar. Maybe you can give us some insight on that

    Awesome video. I just recently got a 461 and should be getting my Bark Box and Maxflo this week, so I'll have to adjust the carburetor. With the 461 having a rev limiter, would I be correct in assuming that I'm simply going to have to rely on a tach (which I have already)? Or, in a pinch can you just bounce it off the rev limiter and adjust the needle to the point where it doesn't hit the limiter and then turn the needle back a touch to where it's just tickling the rev limiter? And suggestions would be appreciated.

    • @westcoastsaw1368
      @westcoastsaw1368  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The low jet will adjust the same as this video
      If you are at sea level and you end you pulling the limiter caps out you should land around
      1 1/8 turn low jet
      1 turn high jet
      That will be enough fuel you can tune it down from there
      You want it to hit the limiter it won’t hurt a thing 👌

  • @videocardzrule354

    How did I get here? Okay let’s start. First of all, I need a saw! I landed on the STIHL 261 with a 20” bar as my choice. I have never even owned or used a chain saw before. Now I feel like a seasoned pro over here after researching for a week straight (Kidding! I have never cut down a tree before or used a saw before) lol. Okay, so Stihl Mtronic or Stihl Non-Mtronic. My local dealer has both 261 flavors, and both with 20” bars. I have lots of 2 stroke tuning experience with my Nitro RC car days as a kid and adult. So I might go with the Non-Mtronic model. 😊 I’m still a little undecided.

    I guess its the same for my little home owner saw. 120 huskvarna my really wraps hard too hard after I leaned it out like it could blow up. but when I richen it up it really bogs. I cannot find the spot your talking about with the miss. It either too lean or waay rich. I will have to mess with it more. I did a turn and a half out on the high. the low wont even idle. 1 .5 out on that too. One guy said on youtube go 1.25 out old bucking billy says. that would be reall lean. Scary lean for this little saw. I ordered a Digital Non-contact Laser Photo Tachometer RPM Tach Tester Meter Speed Gauge I may have to wait for that to get here.

    What I did with all my saws and it worked great, was to pick the idle up till the clutch is engaged, and then tweak the low jet to optimal, this way there is some work it has to do but not enough for the high to come into play. You can even tighten the chain, so the chain doesn't spin but is still forced to work just the same, probably safer to do it like this. The high jet is easy to tell, the low can be tricky, but not now. Then just adjust you idle till it's just off the clutch.

    Why does Stihl charge $200 to put a wrap handle on the 362? $200 for some bent tubing an pre drilled holes. You should undercut them an make something of your own to sell, some hopped up fancy boy handlebars lol

    Problem is that anyone that doesn’t already know how to adjust a carb isn’t likely to have a non limiting coil saw. It’s probably also going to have limiters and that makes the low jet harder as well. A new consumer is doubly screwed and will probably never learn to adjust a carb correctly. 🤷🏽‍♂️
