- In this woodturning project I further my skills using wood dye . The wood used is ash and the teal/turquoise blue dye I used in a powdered dye that can be mixed with spirits but in this case I'm using water. Is this the best wood dye?
This woodturning channel, explores the uses of wood when combined with resin, epoxy, to make woodturning projects, that are easy and can be classed as art. A lot of the wood turning projects I make can be completed by the beginner through to the more experienced wood turner. If you have any ideas for artwork, wood inlays, epoxy projects please get in touch. Collaborations are always welcomes.

That light colour turquoise is stunning! Brilliant work Mr Holt! ❤️
Thanks Dick, appreciate it. Great work on your last art piece!!
Such a fun color. Makes me think of a 1950s fruit bowl. lol
Haha thanks, it certainly has that look!
i am re-watching all of your old content, and i just adore this bowl. the colour and shaper are wonderful. thanks again for all you do.
Awesome! Thank you Dee, I really appreciate it 🙏
Nice bowl nice colour
Many thanks
Ash has always been one of my favourite woods and this bowl ended up gorgeous with your dyeing and shaping. Good job (and lovely choice of music by Emmit Fenn), Mike!
Thanks so much 👍
Lovely bowl mate I think I shall try one nowthank Mike Ian from Christchurch New Zealand
Thanks Ian, have fun 😃
What an eye catching colour!
I’ve probably said this before on your posts that I prefer natural wood finishes. Sometimes I don’t mind a subtle colouring. Still horses for courses as they say.
I'm the same, I much prefer natural wood but I do like to have a go at colouring every once in a while 😀
Very nice! Looks like something from the late 50s or early 60s when space themes were prevalent.
Never thought of that but I think you're right 🤔
Very good is bowl
Thanks 🙏
Great shape on the bowl . The color came out real nice. It looks great with the natural color on the inside of the bowl.
Thank you so much 😀 that's what I was hoping for.
They all look great Mike, well done.

Very nice. Now you have to make a pink one and sell it as a set
Haha interesting idea Brenda 😊
Another beautiful piece Mike.
I was hoping you wouldn't colour the inside. Love the contrast.
I smile every time I hear you say, in these earlier videos, "when I reach 1000 subscribers" 🙂
Look at you now! 17 500! 💫
I might watch another one this evening, so look out for comments lol! 😄

“I’m not panicking yet.” Sounds almost like panic. No need! This turned out spectacularly!
Ha, yeah, it was a leap of faith.
good colours together
Thanks Rachel, I don't do a lot of colouring, perhaps I should do more.
I'm not usually a fan of coloured wood, but when done well it is definitely very attractive@@MikeHolton
@@racheldray1057 Thanks Rachel, appreciate that 😀

Lovely piece and I’m taken by the simplicity of it’s lines. I’m interested in using dyes but confused with all the different types etc on the market. Mind if I ask the specifics of the make, colour and availability of the dyes you use. I like the idea of being able to make up small volumes and possibly mix as needed.
Hi Pete, thanks for the message. I use a powdered dye from amazon, just mixed it with water. easy to use and you do not need to use much. This is the link to it.

Few questions, do you pop the grain with water at any point in your sanding process? Also is there a cut off for coloring woods, such as over a certain density or certain woods you wouldn't because of natural oils within the wood, perhaps woods that don't take or retain color well?
Hi, the alcohol helps to pop the grain before sending. Very dense woods like ekki are harder but they can all be coloured. But darker woods are harder to get the colour you wish for. Ash as you see here is a very light wood so fairly easy to give it a vibrant colour. If you watch the witchers bowl video you will see me struggle to get the colour I'm after.
Speaking in pounds, you must be in the UK
Yep, born and bread :)
