  • What is it like to go to Philmont? Join us as we journey to Philmont Scout Ranch by train and embark on our 12 day trek adventure through Philmont's famous backcountry property. This is the fifth and final part of our adventure including our morning at Ewells Park, our hike to Miranda staff camp for our programming that included tomahawk throwing, black powder rifles, and a game of mountain ball. It also captures our final day on trail as we hike out to meet the bus & our final night at basecamp before heading for home the following day.

watching this video sure brings back my time there at Philmont back in 1968 or so. remember climbing Mt. Baldy at 12,441 feet. I still have my neckerchief from there

Awesome series Andy! It brought back great memories. Our crew (628-I-01, itinerary 31) started a day earlier than your crew. It was fun following your trek on the Philmont map and seeing if our crews crossed paths. The closest we came was when you were at Iris Park and we were in Little Costilla camp. We had summited Little Costilla Peak the day before. Anyhow, thanks for taking me on your journey. It really took me back.

Awesome series, loved watching it. Also this my be the craziest coincidence, but me and my crew from 2019 was in your video! We were the guys with the red shirts at Miranda, and I was the one with the yellow beanie. I’m going back again in a week, this time as a crew leader and with one of my little brother. Awesome experience and crazy coincidence! Best of luck in future videos!

Fantastic...I wish there was 5 more episodes. A couple of questions if I may, what was the game the crew was getting instructions for? Any post trip feeling after going back to the "real world"? Are already signed up for 2021 trek?

At Miranda they were taught a game called mountain ball. Similar to baseball. And they played it while the Advisors had coffee and watched from the porch. I can't wait to get back on the trail myself. I'll be doing a few different trips around the Midwest this year. We are at the Summit at Bechtel this summer, boundary water most likely in 2021, and philmont in 2022 if we get it. My younger son would be old enough by then. And my oldest son would have one last chance to go if he chooses...
