- After having their trek postponed twice, crew 706-Y from California finally got their chance to experience Philmont. A team of videographers joined the crew to document their trek, giving you the opportunity to see Philmont first hand through the eyes of a crew. This is their story.
One more mountain mile, a Philmont mile is longer and more memorable than a regular mile. Another mountain mile was my favorite answer to "how much further?" 😊❤
My name is Major William C Maples. I went to Philmont in 78, 79, and 80. We didn't have much way to record our experience beyond Kodak cameras, but we saw and experienced what you did. Philmont is such a special place, and I am pleased that you were able to experience it. The Scouts did so much to prepare me for success in life. 20 years in the USMC, dozens of ultra endurance runs, and even as a high school teacher for a few more years. I will NEVER forget Philmont!

I went the summers of ‘81-83, then was a Rayado woman in 84; all were amazing experiences and I wish every child could go there. You learn so much about yourself and what you can do, and it’s an amazing adventure. I have much love for Philmont, still have my Philmont mug! ❤
What a great film. If it was an hour long, it would be fine with me. I went 4 times as a scout, 2 of those were Rayado, and came back in 2006 as a Ranger and was selected to be a Rayado Ranger for 2007, but that was the last time I was there, until 2022 when I brought my son to Philmont. Sadly, I couldn't go on the trek because of an injury. But I went to see him off. There is something special for everyone, and coming back to Philmont always feels like coming home. As the rangers yell, "I WANT TO GO BACK TO PHILMONT!" Go back, it will fill your soul.
Our crew made the trip in 1983. Still is the best experience of my Scouting career. Great film!
My 40 year old son, Eagle Scout, and his 15 year old son, leave on Sunday morning for this adventure camp.
My family has a long scouting history.
And I’m so excited for this life changing journey that are about to experience.

Just got back from Treck yesterday. We hiked south country and it was an experience I can only describe as life changing. I often find myself quoting Philmont, like calling my younger brother a minibear, or whenever I make two peace trash, saying I believe in forest fairies. After 72 miles of hiking together, I have made new friends, created bonds, and as they say, I wanna go back to Philmont.
Hey! I worked at Head of Dean during this time I don't recognize your crew but I hope you enjoyed it. My trek was in 2017 and I worked 2018-19, & 2021. I agree that despite the hard work and the soreness you cannot help but desire to go back. IWTGBTP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lol I’m an old lady now, was there forty years plus ago for a few summers on a regular crew then Rayado in ‘84….those were some of the best times I ever had, and I wish i could go back!!❤
Philmont is a life highlight for anyone who attends. What a wonderfully produced video for this group to remember their experience.

Thank you! You will never know how much this Documentary means to me, until you can remember back 33 some years ago when you were there for the first time. I was adult advisor in ‘88, ‘91, ‘94 and ‘97, each time with 8 youth and 3 other adults. We watched 32 scouts become men on those 4 treks. I check the Philmont web cam 4 or 5 times a week and watch all your vids (which are usually too short). Each time we left, I looked back at the ‘arrowhead’ - but I did not look back in 1997..... I guess it’s true.

I've been in this troop for 5 years now and I'm going with 5 others in 413 to go to Philmont in the summer, looking forward to it as these guys in the video are literally friends and inspirations for life.
I know I can't wait. I think all of 413 is inspiring and incredible.
I was in trek 706-U. We ran into these fellas a few times and they were some of the nicest I’ve met. Glad to see their trip went as well as ours!

I went to Philmont with 3 people from my troop and we joined another troop. I unfortunately only have one or two pictures of it. I'm 29 now I went at age 15 and unfortunately lost the cd of photos the leaders gave me and no one I went with has one either so my point is cherish this film cause you will want to look back when you're my age.
I was in 630-Y 02 for 2021, it was an amazing experience this year.

I was crew 705-CC in 2021 and we left from ponil, so we must have been just a day before this crew. I cannot wait to go back. Watching this made me nostalgic of summiting Baldy.
i was lucky enough to be apart of a 12 day trek with patrol 7-23F. it has been one of the greatest moments of my life
Truly a place, and a set of memories, that I will treasure for the rest of my life. I was an adult advisor for crews in 2012 and 2016 (the first times our troop had ever gone to Philmont). Both were great trips. My son would say the same thing: It really is the peak of the Scouting experience.
This is amazing. Getting to see a crew going to the peak of the tooth after my trip standing where I once did is touching to me.
Man, can't believe I was there just a month ago.My troop itenary was 17, ago. Diahrea on the trail and had to be brought back to the infirmary for 3 days, and it sucked, missed the hike to Baldy, but atheist got to go up the Tooth. (I would kill for a propelling course off the Tooth)

Woah that was my trek this summer as well! It's funny watching it, I knew exactly what was coming up but couldn't help but watch anyways. After I saw the trailer I was going to use this as inspiration for my mini-doc of my crew, kinda convenient it's of the same exact trek lol.
Thinking about it more, God the more I want to go back. Maybe once I graduate this spring. Y'all hiring videographers?

God I want to go back. Went this summer 615 trek 12-26. It's amazing to think that I hated it the first days. But wanted to good back the second I got on that trail back to Illinois.
I saw a handful of Illinois folks. Which dates did you stay through?
Is there a “Philmont” for just old guys? I don’t think I could keep up with young folks, but that looks amazing. ;)
I just got off the trail and I see how much in common my trek was.
My experience in Philmont is one of my most deeply treasured memories. But I am concerned by the drinking the potwater challenge I'm seeing in this video. As long as it is voluntary and in good fun that's great but it concerns me. Especially when the one kid said he was about to vomit and the other kids told him to keep going. That's not healthy and not what I experienced with my Crew back on my trek.
The top of baldy did not look windy for them it was really really windy for us

This was absolutely amazing except for one small thing. This documentary didn't capture the context of any of the back-country programs. Thus the casual viewer doesn't know anything about the significance of the mountains that they climbed and they didn't get to experience any of the interpretive themes or campfires. We only saw a brief view of the challenge course but without any explanation, it didn't make any sense to those who don't know what's going on. So if another 15 minutes of all that footage is added to the mix, then this would be about as perfect as a Phil-documentary could be. :)
(Plus, where's the opening and closing campfire programs? And where's the Ranger training?)
