Bobby was Elvis, Sinatra and Dion rolled into one package. His style unmatched, his voice perfect. He was a flaming star of immense musical talent who left us too soon.
Except, of course, he's obviously miming here. Maybe today you could get away with hidden radio mikes, but when this was recorded, it would be impossible to capture his voice without a microphone.
There's a bunch of ladies in their late 70s remembering the time Bobby Darin pulled them out of the audience to dance with them. What a great memory for them.
This is an amazing visual performance. He truly was Sinatra for Teens in the 50s and early 60s. The stage presence, style, confidence and voice was a consummate performer.

When Bobby Darin recorded this song he owned it….. In a few short years Bobby would remix the words a little in his performances, he always kept things fresh and in his own words, "Try to stay current"….. If Bobby were alive today and came down the aisle singing, then dance with his fans he would be totally over run by fans trying to get to him….. Bobby was a genuine person and he perform purely because he loved doing it, plus it was so deeply imbedded within his very soul, he just wanted to give back to his adoring fans what they gave to him…. Man oh, man did he and how…. Having this God gifted talent Bobby just wanted to share it with the world…. Bobby always performed 1,000 percent perfection each and every time never leaving out the smallest of details….. Thank you for the precious memories Bobby Darin because you have thrilled us all the world over…. REST IN PEACE BOBBY DARIN….. LOVED, REMEMBERED AND STILL MISSED !!
I am from the 60's generation. I was one that wanted computers to go away when they first came out. I am SO glad that technology set us where we can see Bobby Darin's performances. I am a Black Female Musician of over 50 years. I grew up hearing these songs on the radio. Then I studied music through College. Today there is NOTHING on the radio that can stand up to the musical arrangements or voice of Bobby Darin's style. He left us so soon in his life. He's crooning in Heaven.
Always love hearing stories from people like you, who KNOW what they’re talking about. Love this music and the people who sang it. This is actually my go-to song if ever I’m at a party or just with friends, I always get told I sing this very well. But I just love it for the lyrics and the jazz-vibes it gives. Thanks so much for your comment.
@@scotia7326 If your associates are telling you that you have a voice for crooning they are not kidding. I pulled the music to this song and wish I had someone, preferable a man's voice to run with me on this song. If you can carry Beyond The Sea, than you can reinvent Mack The Knife. Bless you and keep singing. It's food for the soul.
Of the almost 200 clips I’ve seen of this show, I don’t think I’ve ever heard the audience scream like that. Usually they stop after 15 seconds into the song, but they don’t even calm down in this one. Really goes to show you how much of a presence Bobby Darin was on stage.

No, sorry, he didn't write it. The melody is based on the French song La Mer by Charles Trenet. The English lyric (Beyond the Sea) was written by Jack Lawrence.
In addition to NOT writing it, Darin did not ARRANGE it neither. Written by: Charles Trenet/Jack Lawrence - Arranged by: Richard Wess - Produced by: Ahmet Ertegun/Nesuhi Ertegun/Jerry Wexler

Bobby really did love his fans. Back in '65 I was a lighting technician and Bobby was the guest star on the series 'Run for Your Life' with Ben Gazzara and Bobby came right up my ladder while I was working and kibitz with me for 5 minutes. He seemed to just love everybody he was around.
Reminds me of my mother the way she was in 1959 on Sunday afternoons in the fall of the year.
