      I couldn't agree more. Nobody could ever do justice to this song, like Bobby Darin. It's hard to believe that American Bandstands, Dick Clark advised Bobby Darin not to record Mack the Knife. Clark told Darin that the song would be a flop & ruin his career. I don't think anyone was ever more wrong than Dick Clark. So happy Bobby followed his heart and ignored his good friend. May they both RIP.

    • @StormyDay
      @StormyDay 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      He didn’t push it though, that was him. That was natural ease. I find Buble forced. Darin is smooth as honey.

    • @patkelley8293
      @patkelley8293 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@StormyDay I have noticed Darin really pays close attention to closing every phrase with intent. It's his personality but also his commitment to do his personal best. I noticed it listening to early versions of Mac and Clementine. He hadn't quite dialed them in. But perhaps gauging his audience at the time he added emphasis on certain phrases for maximum effect and took it to the next level. That IS what Darin does better than his contemporaries. He's was a master performer.

    • @StormyDay
      @StormyDay 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      @@patkelley8293 you’re overthinking this. As a performer I can tell you his ease and vocal delivery on stage is really beautiful and he is absolutely not doing anything planned. The only intent here is extemporaneous fun. If the recordings sound colder, well, he has a producer and a boss, i.e., the record company, holding him back.

Take a listen and you’ll have to admit that it’s obvious he’s studied Bobby Darin’s to the hilt. Great singers have one signature song that is associated with their persona. Mac the Knife is Bobbie Darrin’s song and just cant be replicated by other talents. Greats such as Peggy Lee ( Fever), Phoebe Snow ( Poetry Man), Glen Campbell ( Wichita Lineman), James Taylor (Sweet Baby James) etc are all forever associated with their breakthrough songs and no other singers can cover them and be as good. Just is. PS….I always loved seeing Bobbie Darin stepping out with Sandra Dee. What a time and what an era to live through.

  • @BobAndersonMusic

    In this video, Michael said that Bobby Darin was his favorite artist of all time, hands down. He is simply trying to do a tribute to Darin and his Grammy winning song. This is a stupid question. It's like asking: who does Jail House Rock better than Elvis Presley. Obviously nobody would be the correct answer. Who sings New York NY better than Frank Sinatra...nobody. Michael is a wonderful singer and performer. He isn't trying to out do his favorite artist. Sammy Davis Jr. told me that Bobby Darin was his favorite performer. That says it all.

    To see Bobby Darin do this song in 1970 and still just nail it, WOW! No monitors, no props, no BS, just talent and style. Notice that he doesn't try to reproduce it exactly like the great recording, he took some chances and improvised. Bobby never quite got the acclaim he deserved, a true talent.

    Of course this is Bobby's song! He adapted it and made it his own 60+ years ago! And there was no one quite like Bobby Darin! BUT, Michael Buble isn't trying to take the title away from his hero. He's paying homage to Bobby Darin! And he does a fantastic job of it! And regardless if any of you commenting here want to accept it, the truth is there is no one quite like Michael Buble!! He's fantastic!!
