It just so happens I was Bobby's guitarist for those years and I can tell you I've never worked with a finer performer than Bobby Darin before or since. This clip is from "The Bobby Darin Amusement Company", a Summer replacement show that aired on NBC (you can see me in many other clips from the show). This incredible performance was the closing number of the show and at the time Bobby was very ill. He died from heart complications in 1973. He was the best of the best.
What a gorgeous tribute post, but very sad also. You would have absolutely no clue looking at Mr Darin here, that he was so unwell :( May he rest in peace knowing that we still adore his voice/music. Thank you for sharing your special memories with us ❤
Yeah, a Master's Class all right! If you would be a nightclub performer, here's the task: break down every move and gesture he makes here, every breath he takes, every word he sings or ad-libs. In this short performance, he manages to cram in just about every move and trick in show business. and he does it so masterfully that it doesn't look contrived. Like a parody of a night-club singer- except done so skillfully he takes us in. He holds his performance right the line where it would become overblown, a satire, if he blew one more breath into it. And he knows when to quit inflating it. He was one of the all-time greats of Showbiz, Classy Division.
The days when people entertained. They stood out there and gave you their all. No autotune, no lip syncing, no back up dancers. Just raw talent and a love for your audience! RIP Bobby 🌹

Just pay attention to how many notes he goes between, roughly. Stays in the same vocal register all the time, slowly strolling across the stage every now and then. Singers of today should learn from this. There's absolutely no need to over-do a performance in order to deliver top-notch. A singer like Bobby Darin could pull it off using nothing but a solid voice, confidence and a coolness that just can't be replicated. A true performance, if there ever was such a thing.
To think of the major health issues he was facing when this was filmed, it is amazing how he could give such an outstanding performance of his signature song!

Lady Suzette We all love the first version of a song better than the original. I am glad you like it. Yes you were. Great singer
To Blinstrubsgal:Wow! When & where? Now I'm not a happy camper 😁.
You sure was fella , well done .....!!!!!
It was Kevin Spacey's idea to do the movie because he's a big Bobby Darin fan. He's the Executive Producer and sings all the songs himself. Oh yes the man CAN SING! And as for Bobby all I could say is Heart, Soul, Style and Flair!
Such a great entertainer. Bobby could do it all, sing, dance, act, you name it. So sorry we lost him so young.
love it, always have.
I read and saw your comment. It's quite impressive! This message is to actually express my desire to be one of your friends. Can we be friends? If yes, will you mind sending me a message back . God Bless you.
I never knew Bobby passed away at just 37 years old. I am now 38 and find it hard to take in such a talent was taken so young.
Had you met bobby darin in person have gone through knowing him in his younger days?
One of the greats. Left us far too early!
Nick Huber hi! Hope you're on his FB fan pages, let's keep his music and memory alive!! for the next generations:-)

@@RiRi2023_ I am. Bobby was the greatest entertainer ever. Better voice and showman than all of the others.
Not a wife beater, not a shit, ALWAYS kind to me. Tremendous loss.
Just amazing. The greatest performance of one of the greatest songs. What a find here!
The greatest jazz singer ever
I remember watching Bobby Darin's summer TV show when I was a kid and being absolutely riveted every week. What a wonderful performer and special memory.
