+valentin armenta He suffered rheumatic fever as a child about age 9 and it severely damaged his heart. But oh did he make use of the little time he had on earth. What a star! Amazingly, most Americans were unaware that he had a heart defect until it was too late. He died after his second open heart surgery on December 20, 1973. The world was never the same after.

Bobby Darin was a great singer and entertainer. I loved his dancing. No other singer/entertainer could sing and dance across the dance floor like Bobby Darin. Now days you won't see as many chewing gum. Especially, in high society. It's considered rude. Oh well, guess I'm rude. I still chew gum at home, in the car. My choice is Wrigley's. Other than kids, you don't see as many people chewing gum these days. Dentist's' say it's bad on the jaws. Especially, those with TMJ. Remember Bazooka bubble gum?. Back to Bobby. He and Sandra Dee were so adorable together. Their only son looks just like Bobby. He's nice looking, like his father. Bobby suffered with an illness all his life. He wasn't suppose to live past his teens. He was like 40, maybe a bit older, when he left this world. Sandra Dee died at 63-years-old. Her health wasn't the best. She struggled as well. She was the dearest, most darling lady. And, Bobby, was a great man. They both loved each other very much. Sandra never remarried. Even though they divorced, they did get back together. May they both R.I. P.

What an all star lineup, this video is worth a million great memories. BTW, Bobby Darin like Dion is also a Bronx product. Top dresser and very original were his trademarks.

I saw Bobby perform at the Sahara Hotel, Vegas in 1961. He was introduced onstage by George Burns. They did a 'soft-shoe-sand-dance', whereby Mr. Burns and Bobby had 'sand' in their suit coat pockets, sprinkled it onstage, danced and sang together. After the performance, I wanted Bobby's autograph. Mr. Burns was standing out in the lobby, surrounded by lovely showgirls. Mother pushed me up to the front where he was standing. When I asked him about garnering Bobby's autograph, Mr. Burns commented, "Wouldn't you know she'd ask about the kid!" Everyone laughed and I was royally taken aback! No, I never did get Bobby's autograph, as Mr. Burns said Bobby was resting up back stage for the next show. Ah, well....A night to remember!

This is genuine rock n' roll. I recall singing this as a kid along with Sugartime by the McGuire Sisters and Lollipop by the Chordettes. I was only about five or six years old when this tune came out. As a boy, I never missed Dick Clark's show. Bobby Darin was a genuine talent. He moved into more adult music a few years later and Mad Magazine did a spoof, insinuating that Darin was trying to be Frank Sinatra. I never agreed with that. To me, Bobby Darin was just being himself, singing the music as he felt it. I remember when he died. It saddened me. Today, they might have been able to keep him alive. He was a real talent and overcame much hardship in life.
