I was always told to touch all the buttons, especially for digicodes for doors (garage door, front door, etc.). Because we don't tend to change our codes often, we can wear out the buttons, so after a while, it can be easy to guess the numbers in the code and just try out all the combinations. Touching all the buttons means that you'll wear them all out, and you don't need to press other buttons because the hands heat and oils are enough to wear them out ^^
Simply carry a butane blowtorch with you and blast the keypad after you use it. Also prevents the spread of COVID, so you’ll be something of a hero in that store.

Rene D if you have SOMEONES pin you can run off a fake card and go to an ATM and draw out loads of DOSH from there account every day until you get your bank statement in and see your diminished nest egg has been hemoraging your money daily but alot of banks have cameras pointing at the face of the user from behind the screen and the time is in the video so they can look up the withdrawals an see who the perp is who took your DOSH and the cops can put them where they belong hope this helps you to make sure you keep your pin hidden from view I only use two fingers as my four numbers are repeated with is great ,like 7474 so if you can change your pin do it its not 7474 by the way have a great day

I remember testing a Flir camera. I spotted a man walking with his dog about a mile distance from me. The dog stopped to urinate and I could literally see the heat signature left by the steam rising.
but this wasn't a consumer camera, was it? because for a MILE distance you need at least 640px resolution or a zoom objective, and those cost at least 5000 bucks
no one can do anything with just the P.I.N. they need the data that's stored on the magnetic strip. here the pin to my Debit card "5585" now go and steal all my money.
FWIW, if you rest your fingers on the whole row, not only will it stop this method, but anyone who is watching won't know which key(s) in the row you pressed as the movement of a single one of those fingers is *very* subtle. I've been doing that for over thirty years.
Cool so now you have the pin number. Still need to the actual card number and security code on the back to buy something online Or need the actual card to buy something in the store.
Card skimmer. The card is the LEAST secure thing of the entire process. A thief puts a skimmer on a gas pump, the mark swipes their card, the skimmer takes the number of the card, they put their super duper secure 4 digit pin in or their zip code. Bad guy comes back with an IR camera and retrieves the skimmer. Bingo bingo bad guy has your card and your pin and the victim doesn’t even realize what happened.
Mostlyharmless1985 well tbh and a nice and pre setup way but for on the fly I believe they’re a device out there that can read the information from cards that have the wireless option like when you wireless auto pay on device that have it. Most cards have that by now so it’s easier then the way you mentioned
yeah but gas pumps have the metal keypads. People who skim cards from gas pumps only care about the info on the 3 tracks which theyll use to clone the card, sell the info online, or use the info themselves to make online purchases
+Adam Milne make your grey matter work dude, what they actually do is they follow you and steal your card by force or pickpoketting or other. you won't have time to report the card as stolen because they go right away to an ATM
its a lot easier to steal card info such as the Exp date and the number, sec number The PIN is the hardest thing to get on a Debit card as a thief... this turns the process backwards..grabbing the hard to get pin first... he is already using a camera.. he could just snap a pic of the card as she swiped it...
Vertoxis HammerSnatch Not true, the swipe reader forces you to place the card so it faces away from the guy behind you and upside down. And your hand is moving fast, too fast for a picture of it.
On door entry systems where the same code is punched in over and over again, you can see oily residue from the finger presses. you can then try different combinations of those keys.
One additional way to avoid this problem: Use a pen (capacative stylus one if it is a screen that requires the touch of skin) to input your pin....it's a good idea during flu season to not be touching stuff other people are touching anyway!
It seems like a good idea to use a pen. But you forget that the naked eyes can see what numbers you typed. Crooks explore the scenarios thoroughly before they actually go out to do the crime. In this case they memorized the order of the numbers on the keypad. A tall person can easily see the actual number being pressed. You still need to block the entire keypad to be safer. As for getting the flu. You won't escape the flu. By what you are doing will prevent getting the flu less frequent. Don't forget the how many ways one can get the flu. Still better than not doing what you do. This is what I do. I don't touch anything. Stores have antibacterial wipes for customers and I take advantage of this every time I am in the store. Sorry about long writing. Not mean to hurt anyone's feelings. Just help reminds what you forget.
***** In his video he did not actually got the pin#. One person somewhere in here prove it. But I'm going to tell you why it didn't work here. Because the keypad are used by so many and not cleaned there is no way he or anyone can tell what pin numbers was pressed. The sleeve does help a lot. I have witnessed a crook using binocular from a far in his car looking into the outside of bank ATM. This bank has this problem a lot so now they have security man standing outside of the is ATM searching the outside looking for such crook during business hours. They also got cameras everywhere outside and above the inside of the ATM. The bank came up with more tighter security. Picture ID on the ATM and two plexiglass walls on both side of the ATM. This place used to be the safest place for all business. It is in a rich neighborhood. Other banks installed an enclosed box where only one customer at time can enter this box. There are so many ways that thieves can get access to your person information. But using the information present a little challenge for them. Because banks has many clever methods of preventions. When you all know how easy it is for crooks you will so be scare. I have been victimized by crook who worked for bank. I am to blame because I was tricked and couldn't proved so I lost $3,000.00 in cash. And I was a victim of credit card fraud. The credit card fraud was a horrible experience for me. In store I used two carts. One for putting things and the other to keep the one who came to close to my body. I keep a good distance away from people. Simply I don't like stranger being that close to me. I'm well protected by my method so I have no need to block the keypad.
Sharon, Your comment is the best. I had the same thought which is just use the eraser end of a pencil to push the buttons. No thermal signature left behind and no germs picked up off the keys.
for a pin, you know it will be 4 numbers. you can detect multiple uses of a number, if there are less than 4 hot buttons. the duplicate will likely be hotter, as it had heat transferred twice. if you have a repeating number, then transfer heat to more, until you have a fourth. this will lead them in the wrong direction, as they try to incorporate the fourth number.
But now you can pickpocket them. Or if you're in England or anywhere that has contactless cards, you can just walk by then with a magnet and a reader and swipe their info that way.
It's called electronic pickpocketing that thieves are using. www.click2houston.com/news/thieves-easily-stealing-credit-card-info-by-electronic-pickpocketing/25026758
Getting someone's pin code is like finding a key laying on the sidewalk. If you don't know where the door is, it's useless. You need their credit card number too, right? You'd have to somehow find someone's credit card number before even considering stalking them for their pin number. Then again, if someone looses their credit card, they would hopefully have alerted their bank about it and be sent a new card. I guess a thief could get your pin and then follow you home and break into your house or mug you and steal your card. At that point, hopefully you can scream for help, call police, or use something like stun gun or a firearm you may have on hand. And if someone steals your pin and card number, perhaps from a hacked business network, some banks will probably reimburse you for anything stolen and cancel the stolen card.
but as he showed in the video he just has to be standing behind them in the line, so after he got the pin he could have just followed the woman to her car and mugged her
Curtis HD Indeed, indeed. That's what I was getting at in my previous comment. A thief would have to steal your card from you and figure out your pin code. Basically mugging is not a new thing, but luckily now it's usually a two step verification; a card and a pin code, possibly a signature or photo ID proof if you've written that request on your credit card. I believe even RFID scanned credit/debit cards still require a pin code as well. Moral of the story, don't get mugged or be prepared to defend yourself :-P haha If you can't defend yourself, simply give the thief your card and pin, and hope he doesn't kill you. If he doesn't kill you, immediately call authorities and describe the suspect and then cancel your card.
The hardcore killers will follow you outside of the store, and club you over the head in the parking lot, and take your wallet/purse and haul off. Pretty scary...
***** They explained that the scientists performed the test and were only able to guess 50% of the time after taking the photo a full minute after the pin was entered and it rarely takes a person less than a minute to ring up their order and pay. The thermal signatures dissipate fast enough that the thermal signature from the person prior would have no effect.
NO they do not need the actual card itself. The data on the card is NOT encrypted and is transmitted in the clear in plain text when you swipe the card. ONLY the PIN is encrypted. Just rest your hand on the key pad after entering your PIN and you are just that much safer.
I bet you 100 bucks that there are more criminals watching this that WILL TRY TO STEAL an ATM code than the number of people that will try to use Marks "hiding technique".
Thanks for spreading the word on this. It's amazing how much miniaturization (and cost reduction) FLIR was able to do on their tech after so many years of being way more bulky than near-infrared detectors.
No problem. Let's say you choose 1112. You'd see the code consists of only "1" and "2". and the 2 will be lighter. Since there's a differece in brightness between the 1 and 2 it is impossible that you chose 1212 which would cause equal brightness, so my first guess would be either 1122 which would be no success and then the only second possible would be 1112 which would be correct.
As for 2021 I would suggest using your card or a touchstick to press the buttons instead of using your fingers. This should leave no thermal signature and is more hygienic in times of a global pandemic (also without pandemic). =) Anyway, is this method still used?

I actually make sure to touch multiple buttons at a time. It confuses thermal readings.
And that’s why your PIN number should repeat numbers like: 1176 1311 and 2542
Good advice. Not just for this reason, but it increases the possible numbers a lot, making it much harder to guess.
When some random stranger online correctly guesses your 4 digit pin 😨
Uncle Addy did you just publish yourpin?

Simple solution: Put warmers under rubber buttons so when the infrared camera sees it, its all gonna be red.
That would be pretty expensive, though. An easier idea would be to have a metal keypad (or to heat the store to human body temperature)
Hailey DeBruin ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ ah, yes. All stores should now be kept at 98 degrees. It is the only logical solution XD
Hailey DeBruin ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ Let me say something, it’s not really expensive
But that costs money and stores don’t like to spend money
Hailey DeBruin ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ if we heated the store to human temperatures we would overheat
I was always told to touch all the buttons, especially for digicodes for doors (garage door, front door, etc.). Because we don't tend to change our codes often, we can wear out the buttons, so after a while, it can be easy to guess the numbers in the code and just try out all the combinations.
Touching all the buttons means that you'll wear them all out, and you don't need to press other buttons because the hands heat and oils are enough to wear them out ^^
Who's this rad skater dude and what have you done with Mark Rober??
Simply carry a butane blowtorch with you and blast the keypad after you use it. Also prevents the spread of COVID, so you’ll be something of a hero in that store.

There is no possible way this go wrong.
@@JohnDoe-on8gl yeah but the heat would still be in the keypad after it freezes its best if it were in lava

Cool so now you have the pin number.
Still need to the actual card number and security code on the back to buy something online
Or need the actual card to buy something in the store.
Hahahahahaahahhahahahahahahah bruh
Waddles Bell is keypad doors are problematic in their own ways
yeah but gas pumps have the metal keypads. People who skim cards from gas pumps only care about the info on the 3 tracks which theyll use to clone the card, sell the info online, or use the info themselves to make online purchases

If you can get the card maybe?
It doesnt have that much use if you cant get to the person tho
What's the point to know the pin if they don't have the card? In that case, then worry not to lose your card.
Because its much easier to rob a card from a person than it is to force them to tell you the pin.
its a lot easier to steal card info such as the Exp date and the number, sec number
The PIN is the hardest thing to get on a Debit card as a thief... this turns the process backwards..grabbing the hard to get pin first...
he is already using a camera.. he could just snap a pic of the card as she swiped it...
Frankty Lopez Then once you get robbed call your bank and tell them about theft

But how does a thief use the info without the matching card, short of stealing a person's wallet or purse shortly thereafter?
So what good is a PIN without the physical card, anyway?
Nothing, you would need to steal the card or its numbers.
In the example you just mentioned, the PIN is completely irrelevant.
MurdochEx sense . you make none

press the keys with an object
much less risk
or touch other keys at random so that there will be more warm keys
You're a FUCKING genius... Wow! That is an amazing idea!
No thermal signature left behind and no germs picked up off the keys.

if a digit repeats...like ..
1 5 4 1 8 ...then how to guess it
Sidd G Nice question
You’d still have the digits
for a pin, you know it will be 4 numbers. you can detect multiple uses of a number, if there are less than 4 hot buttons. the duplicate will likely be hotter, as it had heat transferred twice. if you have a repeating number, then transfer heat to more, until you have a fourth. this will lead them in the wrong direction, as they try to incorporate the fourth number.

This isn't really a new concept. I remember having to use thermal imaging in Splinter Cell to figure out the keypad combo back in early 2000's
How does this even matter if you don't have someones code? All you have is a random 4 digit number great job!
But now you can pickpocket them. Or if you're in England or anywhere that has contactless cards, you can just walk by then with a magnet and a reader and swipe their info that way.
It's called electronic pickpocketing that thieves are using.
www.click2houston.com/news/thieves-easily-stealing-credit-card-info-by-electronic-pickpocketing/25026758
because the first step is to steal their pin code, the second step is to assault/rob them and take their card. Do you not know what criminals do? :S
Then it wouldn't matter if they had my pin or not I'm dead.
Today wallets are shielded to prevent this.
Remember when this was his newest video? Time flies
Back when this video was made, tap to pay was already widespread in many countries, which completely avoids the issue.
I'm too tight to use tap. They put two and a half percent on the bill here.
There are still places in the US where tap to pay is not available or does not work.

Criminal: How can I repay you mark
with the money from someone else's bank account
This video also just helps people who want to steal the code.
So if they get your pin number... wouldn't they still need the card itself?
Of course they do.
That's what I thought.
Thats why they have a buddy who accidentily bump into you right outside or attach one of those magnet signature copier close by.
I'm happy I live in the Mark Rober timeline where he tells us these things versus the Mark "Robber" timeline where he steals our pins.

Thanks for spreading the word on this. It's amazing how much miniaturization (and cost reduction) FLIR was able to do on their tech after so many years of being way more bulky than near-infrared detectors.
What if the person used same number twice.....???
That's a good way to secure your password .
Anyway, is this method still used?
