Years ago I was an extra in a commercial playing carnival games. We threw hundreds of rings that day and not a single person landed one on a bottle neck....
I won the ladder climb when I was a young teen. Got a giant angry-bird plush almost as big as me, proper soft fabric and proper stuffing none of that styrophone ball stuff. The financial and business side of it is interesting too. It's a business, with employees and the job is to make money, and certain venues are more or less popular and have better or worse expected values
How to win giant prizes: 1. Bring a long stick with a hook 2. Get the toy 3. Naruto run as fast as you can out of the carnival( with your new toy/toys of course )
You should go to different carnivals or look different if you go to a same carnival just in case you don't get busted if they recognize you. Then you can get a toy for free each day

At a Carnival I once saw an old man in a wheelchair at a shooting booth where you shoot with BBs. He somehow had problems to reload and handle the rifle but he had perfect aim. Ten shots and ten hits. Even the booth owner was a bit surprised. And so this guy rolled away with a teddy bear. I imagine him as a retired sniper and he just wasnt used to BB guns.

The milk bottle one also may have an added trick where only the lower bottles are weighted. So you ask to feel the weight of the bottle, they hand you the top one, and it will feel totally normal, but the middle and bottom row are still super heavy and hard to knock over.

This is basically a math and science lesson taught in an interesting and relatable way to understand. I swear i learn more on TH-cam by choice than school by force
school by force is a bad way of doing things. just let students watch youtube and they'll stumble upon education and they feel engaged and not feel forced into something they dont want to do
As a teenager, I worked the rope ladder game, and I don't remember ever having anyone win. The funny thing is, the guy that owned the game would sometimes walk up the rope ladder with no hands, walking up the middle of the rope ladder. Whenever he did this we would get a huge crowd to watch and then everyone would try to win. All he did was increase his profits, lol.
My older brother found another way to beat it when we were kids actually. He'd climb up the ladder half way, then interlocked his hands and feet, and then intentionally flipped the ladder over until he was hanging upside down from it. After that he just slowly pulled himself to the top to reach the prize. He never went pro though, what a shame :)
30 And Hating It When I worked it, if it flipped over you automatically lost. maybe it's different in certain parts of the country though. I worked it in NY.
I won this one at a Ren faire by jumping about half way up, then pressing my hands and feet outwards to the side ropes. Then, after it was done spinning, I made a couple of smaller jumps the same way and reached the bell at the top. (The ladder there was about at a 45° angle off horizontal.)
At the PNE in Vancouver, I won one of the huge prizes at one of their "impossible" games. They had a weighted baseball that flew like a knuckleball, and you had to break plexiglass bottles. I didn't tell them before hand I was a pitcher who threw an amazing knuckleball. Needless to say after I missed my first throw and realized the pattern, things didn't go the way the carnie expected. I still have my 6 foot tall penguin to this day.
I’m so glad I came across the one TH-cam post that sums up 100% of our favorite things in one video - we love the boardwalk and are there all summer, we are fascinated by the science of carnival games and my son has even done school projects on the subject, and we are NY Mets fans too! Thanks for the perfect video!
Once when i was really young (like 7 or 8) I actually won the ringtoss off of a super lucky bounce and the person running the booth had to call their manager because they had no idea what to actually do
I don’t even go for the games and prizes…..I go at night time for the lights, the sounds, the smell, and there’s something nostalgic about being at a fair or carnival with someone you love being with. Can’t beat it. It’s very romantic.
The education system is broken this is a perfect example. In fact some people learn better by teaching themselves rather than learning off another individual. It depends on the brain, however it's why this guy is so much better at explaining these concepts because he is not focused on any particular subject but the world as a whole. It makes a huge difference. It's surprising cause engineering grads should have recognized this over 20 years ago and somehow the courses have only been changing to be more hands on. Schoolhouses from the 1800s and before actually offered better education than today's systems, however to a degree. There are benefits and disadvantages to both sides however the idea of learning at own pace to get all details is an important detail the universities should adopt but also all other levels of education. The more it's talked about the faster change might occur but your response is a perfect example of what all engineering students experience. At least it more noticeable for us and probably any med students.
The ladder climb is one of the only carnival games I ever won when it flipped near the end I just hung on and crawled upside down without touching the ground
"any kind of legitimate investigation needs to start with solid data as the foundation" You'd be surprised to know how many people believe this step to be optional.
My sister came and saw me watching this and saw your profile in the comments and said “That looks like a green skittle.” Then I saw it and I was like yeah 😏
I must say that after having worked in an amusement park and in several of these types of games there is a better way to handle the peach basket one. Throwing the ball at an angle (at least 45 degrees if you can manage it) so that it hits the side of the basket will dissipate the kinetic energy by having the ball roll around the inside. I was told to encourage players to do the very same thing and would demonstrate for anyone who was patient enough to listen to me before making their first throw (Not many). I would spend all day in the corner of the booth throwing the ball into the baskets and making every single one no matter how far away. It never ceased to amaze me how few would ever listen.
But they do want people to win. Win at the games they still profit on even if you win first try. They need people to walk around with stuffed animals because they are very visual prizes. It encourages others to try because it's visual evidence that people are winning games.
Thank you, this was immensely helpful. I am writing a story in which a character beats one of the 'impossible' games (the rope ladder, in fact,) and this was very useful in helping me figure out how he does so. Also I shout-laughed at your wife's reaction - the only reasonable one. XD
The trick to the rope ladder is to one, practice anddd two: This may sound very odd but going backwards makes it SO much easier. And three, ALWAYS keep both feet and one hand on the bar when moving backwards to climb up. Hope it helps!
@@fahimalam2562 you just don't expect it and for the reaction to come out like that, so subtly as opposed to loudly like you'd expect, made it even funnier. I just thought it was funny because, it made me laugh, but there's an explanation I guess
This guy should straight up teach physics for all the poor hs kids who are stuck at home getting a terrible online education rn. He’s definitely better than the physics teacher I had
I've been asked to leave the ring toss several times. Yes it takes an accurate throw, and the large bucket gives you more than enough to get a few, but there is 2 ways to win. First random luck. get the ring bouncing across the bottles and it has a small chance to tumble onto a bottle. Second, go for the closest bottle to you, throw the ring flat, not endo over end, and have the trailing lip hit the bottle first. This created a rattling motion on the bottle not a deflecting motion. I've walked out with 7 bears on a day across two bottle games.
Look up on google----global truth project----click The Present. It answers all of life’s biggest questions and can turn this world right side up from the beginning of it. Nothing is more important than reading it.
Big facts, verified it myself while the guy was busy attending a customer I saw it and it was, still gave it a try 3 attempts and only had to make 1, on my 2nd and I made it in but I really needed to hit the center of the backboard to make it
Children (especially with loads of outdoor play, like climbing trees) generally have insane amounts of control because they don't think about it, their brain just does it and they might have that experience/stimulation which I am JEALOUS of
Legasov Or their weight does not affect the rope too much so the rope stays quite stable. I mean you’re not completely wrong but you make it sound like kids are superhuman in terms of balancing, most kids are not like that too.

That last comment your sweetheart made and your facial expression made me spit laugh. Wonderful, informative and funny vid. I lost soooo much money as a kid at these games.
Update: Thank you for putting real captions! Looking forward to using this video with my students :) As a physics teacher, I love these videos and would love to use them in my classes, but the auto-captions that they currently have do not meet ADA standards for my Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. TH-cam makes it pretty easy to go through and edit the captions for grammar and accuracy (ie adding punctuation and correcting any words that did not transcribe properly). I know some of your videos have full and proper captions, would love to see that for this video as well!

le véritable but pour celui qui va à une fête foraine est de s'amuser. Peu importe le ratio chance / coût / du lot à gagner . Mais le documentaire est quand même bien fait
Saying someone has a 10% chance on the cup game (because there are 160 winning cups out of 1,600 total cups) assumes that every toss will end up on one cup or another. However, a large number of throws bounce or roll off the field altogether, making the odds of winning much lower than 10%.
No, he's right. You have a 50% chance of getting tails or heads on a coin toss too. Doesn't mean you won't get 10 heads out of 10 tosses. Odds are different than probability, or chance in this situation.
Actually, the 10% number is based off the observations of his churro-fueled friends who sat around and watched people play the game all day and some math. But it lines up well with the ratio of the colored targets.
I remember winning at the ladder climb, but during the entier time I was calling for the person to look at me, he didn't, on purpose. Crossing his arms and turning his back to me. He only looked at me when he heard me fall. I was 13-14 back then, I'm 23, still piss after that person ...
I saw a dude working at a Renaissance Festival that did the ladder thing, walking up the thing with no hands. It was impressive, it genuinely looked like he was walking a tight rope.
Zach Caudle i work at my local amusement park and we have the game it’s super easy if you learn the way to crawl up it and feet only isn’t hard bc you just step in center and you good to go (i cant do feet only yet but my co workers can)
I was formerly a mechanic at a large amusement park for about a year, and after my inspections I would go over to the rope ladder and try to make it to the top. Despite hundreds of tries I never made it to the top regardless of my technique. I nearly made it by using only one hand and one foot opposite of each other and moving rather quickly. Those miniature milk bottles you knock down weigh around 10 pounds a piece. All those games are a scam.
Traveling Tom There’s a guy at my local six flags who has been working at the ladder climb for years. He can walk up the ladder backwards, while spinning a ball on one finger the entire time.
I just go to amusement parks for fun like once a year and try to win as much stuff as possible, ya I could buy them but it’s fun to try and win them. Just don’t go often then your wasting your money! Love your videos! Love looking forward to coming home and watching them❤

Don't they say if it flips over, you lose?
30 And Hating It Nah, you only lose if you touch the ground. But it's REALLY difficult not to, even if you're holding on for dear life.
30 And Hating It
When I worked it, if it flipped over you automatically lost. maybe it's different in certain parts of the country though.
Moral of the story:
Just ride the roller coasters
Lmao
@Donut Productions really? When i was in Poland in energylandia i paid like 20€ and was able to be in the park do anything till it closes.
Or the carousel bc I hate roller coasters. Yes I know I’m weird. Don’t tell me that. I already know :)

Omg love thatt, penguins are cute 🐧

Thanks for the perfect video!
Once when i was really young (like 7 or 8) I actually won the ringtoss off of a super lucky bounce and the person running the booth had to call their manager because they had no idea what to actually do
What ended up happening?

The last time I tried peach basket I learned that one of the balls is weighted differently so it's almost impossible to get it to stay in the basket
Now you know why our country is the way it is now, no one will listen.
Although, most of them are not expert throwers and are probably happy it even went into the basket at all.
*only in america*
You can see that's exactly what the professional pitcher did, and the ball stays in the basket at the end of it.

I've walked out with 7 bears on a day across two bottle games.

le véritable but pour celui qui va à une fête foraine est de s'amuser.
SunPower Guru he probably went off the idea off throwing it towards the middle
No, he's right. You have a 50% chance of getting tails or heads on a coin toss too. Doesn't mean you won't get 10 heads out of 10 tosses. Odds are different than probability, or chance in this situation.
But then, with the skill of aiming your throw into the correct cup, you'll somehow increase the chance a 'lil bit.
So... 10% pretty much?
Actually, the 10% number is based off the observations of his churro-fueled friends who sat around and watched people play the game all day and some math. But it lines up well with the ratio of the colored targets.
