If you suspect that you or a loved one has been the victim of fraud, you can call or visit the National Elder Fraud hotline (stopelderfraud.ovc.ojp.gov/) at 833-372-8311 and report it to the FTC by visiting the agency’s website (reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/) or calling 877-382-4357.

I relate. After my bike was stolen, I really wanted to get a GPS tracker and put it on cheap bikes in the same location and hunt down the thieves. But the cash investment was more than I could really justify. Would be way easier and cheaper to pull off than this though... I don't know why police don't just always have like 50 bait bikes around town waiting to get stolen.

I used to work in fraud. Unfortunately, it's true how a lot of victims are older folks.
One woman had a really sad story. A friend of hers stole her information when she was grieving the loss of a family member. She was saying how this woman held her hand at the funeral & how she comforted her & all that. The "friend" somehow got ahold of her info & used to do her own dirty work

My grandmother was called by a scammer saying there was an issue with windows on her laptop and she led them on for 45 minutes pretending she thought they were talking about the windows on her house.

You really get the impression from watching scammer exposed channels that they not only don't think of the people they're scamming as people, but they don't even have the concept that anything they're doing is wrong. To them this is just work and they're just earning money.

When I was younger I worked grocery and had to talk an older gentlemen out of spending thousands on visa gift cards to “mail to someone for a refund”, this is way more common then people might think
I may just be being overemotional here, but I cried a little bit when the scammer told Phyllis she reminded him of his grandmother. The fact that a person could build the trust of such a sweet, innocent old lady just so they can steal her life savings and ruin her life is just heartbreaking.

Me neither, I feel like him getting a package stolen has made a positive impact on his life overall. After getting just one package stolen, he has gotten revenge on many package thieves and now a scammer.

My grandad is 76 and messes with them😂 he spent about an hour on the phone to a man talking about his laptop and at the very end my grandad says “oh yeah I don’t have a laptop” 😂😂😂 around an hour after they first called him😂

We organize similar sessions as part of our comp sci degree. Not only about security and fraud but it's the one our group chose. More common scams here are call scams. Where they trick people to call back to a pay per minute number. A little understanding goes a long way for these victims.
I'd love to know how you got the FBI to lift a finger. I've contacted them repeatedly over the years and they did nothing.

My great grandma got a call from a scammer and she was going along with what the scammer was telling her to do for about 20 minutes. then the scammer told her to click on an icon on the screen. she told the scammer that she didn’t see the icon on her screen. The scammer was confused about why she didn’t see the icon until my great grandma said “maybe its because I don’t have a computer.” So basically my great grandma had wasted more than 20 minutes of the scammer’s time, which i think is great.

Lmfao same. Not only calls but also on Whatsapp voice recordings ! Just few weeks back I got a voice message from an unknown person ( had a pfp of a boy between age I think 23 -27 ).
The voice message was that KBC has a giveaway in which 200 numbers are chosen from like 5000 phone numbers who will be given Rs.10,000. The voice recorder said that to call only through whatsapp to "recieve" the money as KBC has partnered with Whatsapp for this lmao. Also said that my bank account details have already been send from Mumbai to Delhi.
Laughed for like 2 minutes straight and then blocked that no. Lol
