    She obviously started life as a base level El Camino. That looks a lot like mine. She's a real animal now.. Mine still has her original 350 in it And is a great everyday drive.

    I have the same tci controller got to have an electric noise filter for the tach signal if you are not running a msd controller it has a clean tach signal coming from it to run accessories like that and on the 4l80e it has 2 speed sensors you need to use the sensor closest to the driveshaft that is one amazing sounding and looking project brother great job!

    Really enjoying watching you do this car Taylor. I did a frame on restoration/mild hot rodding of 70 EC in the early 80's. Loved that car until some drunk towing a trailer sideswiped it. It was fixable but prior to the calamity it was totally strait, rust and bondo free. I just could've live with it anymore.
    Some ideas I have for you:
    You need to protect the rubber trans cooler lines from chafing against the radiator shroud and tank seems. The vibration will wear a hole in them. Clamp them down somehow and cut larger rubber hose (or some other armor) and put around them at key chafe points. You did a nice job routing the Trans cooler lines bit they need to be secured more. Even if they don't chafe the vibration could eventually make them leak at connectors. Lock'em down Bud.
    B&M, Hurst and a few other companies make floor shifters you can use with the bench seat or buckets. If you get buckets skip the console. Mine had buckets but there was more than one time a bench seat would have been handy since the girls loved the car. It's a ticket to something other than traffic court if you get my meaning. ;-)
    Love your project, it's a beauty. Be safe.

    13% advance timing gm love that timing set. Try it and see ull lik it. Plus gas mileage will be a lil better too.

    • @Sword5000
      @Sword5000 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Initial timing of 13 is bad advice. TOTAL timing of 34 to 38 at 2500 to 3000 RPM. I set my street/strip car ignition up at total of 36 degrees at 2500 rpm with an initial of 10 degrees. Never set a performance engine by initial timing. 13 degrees at 800 RPM is 15 degrees at 1200 RPM and could be 45 degrees at 3000 RPM. So initial should stay low for easier starting. So set your ignition up with 24 to 28 degrees in the distributor and 10 degrees initial gives you 34 to 38 degrees total. One of the first rules in performance engines. And then if you run a Turbo or NOS then all that changes. But never go by initial except on a completely stock vehicle. Then never more than 2 degrees above factory specs.

    Nice car!
    Use an afr guage to tune the carb jet up or down according, sounds like you need 33-38 idle feed restrictors, its a big engine and it needs fuel off idle. Also when you turn it off and it diesels that means the throttle is open too much at idle, may be tour secondaries may need to be closed, thats how I closed mine on my holley vacuum secondaries.

    • @TaylorSmithAutomotiveChannel
      @TaylorSmithAutomotiveChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Frank da Tank thank you for the advice! I need to get back to working on this car. It really needs a 2800+ stall converter. The idle has to stay high for the car to idle in gear, and then it diesels when shutting it off in park. It is far from finished haha!

    THOSE HEADERS THROW OFF A LOT OF HEAT MY FRIEND AND YOU JUST HAVE RUBBER LINES, GET SOME GOOD HEAT WRAP AND BRAIDED LINES OR MAKE YOUR OWN METAL LINES, THATS DANGEROUS, THOSE LINES BURST VERY EASY ESPECIALLY WHEN GETTING BAKED WITH HEADER HEAT AND PRESSURE
    468 CUBES WITH HUGE CAM AND VALVES NOT GOING TO BE FUEL EFFECIENT BUT LIKE YOU SAID IT MAKES YOU SMILE.

    For your hoses you should buy this to protect them from the heat of the headers on Amazon : Design Engineering 010233 Ultra Sheath MA Lightweight Extreme Heat Protection for Hoses, Fuel Lines & Electrical... also the pressure from the transmission is at 145 psi to 225 psi. I dont think your hoses will last with that much pressure. Every city has a shop that specializes in making hydraulic hoses. You should try them and they also sell the fittings too that will match up to the psi and temp of the trans fluid. Trans fluid also runs between 115 and 185 depending on weather and other factors. Those hoses won't cut it

      This is the hose I used. It looks like regular rubber line, but it is actually reinforced high pressure -6AN line from Summit Racing. It just doesn't have the braided exterior lining. It is rated up to 302 degrees of temperature and 250 psi. It has been perfect so far.
