We were at Epcot Center about ten years ago and were going past the Canadian pavilion. Outside there was a stage and a rock band in kilts telling us they were going to play the traditional music of Canada and as GBS fans we wanted to hear them, even with electric instruments. To our surprise, the first song they played was this GBS arrangement of "Run Runaway". Good show.
i can remember dancing around to this as a kid all of the time, and watching this now at 20 years old i couldn’t help but bop along to it in bed while my boyfriend thought i was having a seizure
Just showed this song to my 7-year-old son and he's hooked! He's got Newfie blood, but born in Alberta. This song brings me back to my high school days growing up in central. Man, do I ever miss home. Thanks for the awesome tunes and the great memories, b'ys!

this was the first gbs song I ever saw on muchmusicusa years ago. 20something concerts later, I'm completely hooked. planning a trip to nfld next year :)

There's something refreshing every time I hear a canadian folk song, I'm not the patriotic type but whether it's GBS or Spirit of the west i feel something stir inside.
@Bladedshrew Yep! Though I checked after and found that the Toronto team was a parent company to the St. John's team... so you were right too ;-) You can see the the St. John's bit at around 0:45, partially obscured by the strap.
Nice that they put their own spin on the song, rather than trying to be Slade. Because they aren't Slade. Two awesome bands, awesome for totally different reasons.
@mach7mach10 Totally agreed! ...and to think they're both Canadian. The difference is... we have a more refined mature taste for REAL CANADIAN music, compared to the pop and hip hop minds of today's young generation. This is a cover of Slade's (a British band) original version in the early '80's. Well done by GBS!

Great taste!
As a kid I'd rock this cd on trips from Ontario to Novia Scotia, then out to Bc.
I love this Country!

that realization that half of your childhood songs were from Great Big Sea. AWESOME!
GBS went across genres. They made folk songs sound almost punk rock. Proud to be a Newfoundlander
it's so hard to stay still when listening to this song
I hear you!
Oh man, I love this song, and I love Great Big Sea. This is the best thing in the world to stumble across!
I have no idea how I found this song.
But okay. I'll roll with it.

And Allan Doyle is cutest than Noddy Holder, of course!!!🤣🤣🤣
I can barely tell, honestly. They age REALLY well--must be all the good times and good vibes.
Who knew Folk Music could sound so awesome??!

Great song from my childhood that always made me want to dance! Awesome!
I loved when I found this band and song 8 years ago. And I just found it again and I still totally dig this song!!! 🍻🍻🍻🤘🏼🤘🏼
It's an interesting version that makes it sound like a traditional tune, but it's not: th-cam.com/video/VTj3dh78Zlo/w-d-xo.html
I was today years old when I realised this song perfectly describes being in/getting out of a relationship with a narcissist.
when you realize half of the kids today grew up with this awesomness

Great cover of the song...doesn't replace the original, just earns applause alongside it.
I think Slade would approve :)

Great Big Sea broke up in 2013, which is unfortunate considering how I missed the chance to see them live in 2011.
Anything Great Big Sea does is awesome.
I had heard of this band (from the CBC), but had never actually heard any of the music.
So far, I like it.
First song I ever heard form them..was on much music usa late 90s..have since seen them more than a dozen times.
This song is so great
one of my favorite songs, good times
its been a long time but still the best song out there
Well it's great, but the best song out there? What do you think of the Slade original version?
Just watched Alan and his new band in concert last night, so GREAT, this is the only song I would add to the concert
He led with this song when we saw him five years ago.

great cover of the Slade classic
Not often that a remake can outdo a classic, but these guys did it.
@@AllRequired i wouldn't really say they are comparable its just two different styles that both work very well.

This music makes me wish I was down home :(
I like how they use traditional instruments such as the tin whistle and that funny drum thing that seems like a shield to make modern music
It's called a "bodhran," maverick--- a skin stretched over a frame. Kind of a prereq for those of us who play Celtic-style music lol!
It is similar to the drums that the First Nations (Native Canadian) people use

Slade brought me here. Fun version.
I actually prefer the Slade version but saw GBS live and they played this... Had to listen to both!!!
@@darrentylor5473 I prefer this version over Slade's. At least this version doesn't have Noddy Holder shoving his tongue against his cheeks.
How can this song only have 6k views, yet people like Justin Bieber have billions of views... I worry about our future as a species.
GBS was one of the best east coast bands ever. They kept Nfld music alive while the Canada government killed Canadian culture.

But then the Newfies latched onto it, and... you've got this.
