Nicest looking EV sedan on the market. It’s beautiful. I test drove an i5 M60 and it drove great on freeways and on backroads with a lot of curves. I have owned my car almost 2 months and I have not been as much in love with a car for 40 years.

I would usually prefer a sunroof but in this instance I would spend the extra $900 for the fixed glass because it’s much bigger view or more light. As for the fresh air, crack the windows.

This. People rarely actually open sunroofs. Majority just want extra light and airiness. OEMs realized this, hence why glass roofs are starting to replace sunroofs on many luxury cars.

When I first saw it I thought it looked like a big Corolla, and was not joking. But I now like precisely because of the thin C pillar. I just saw the outgoing 5 on the road today and it looked a bit gym-daddy to me. This new one looks more svelte, though it is bigger. I've yet to see it in the flesh though.

Completely agree on the last comments. About the car, finally we see an ev that looks like a car people may like and got traditional setup when it comes to design. It makes the EQE look like a bar of soap.... in fact a bar of soap makes an EQE look like a pretty used bar of soap. Love almost everything BMW is making for the last 5 years or so. Prices are up but design and finish is really up too.

This has got to be the most painful episode I’ve ever watched because I allowed every commercial to play through without hitting skip. With that, let me say that a sunroof that opens over the driver seat versus having a vision roof on an IONIQ 5, that we prefer the panoramic for the following reasons. My passengers enjoy the open feel of the cabin and we don’t miss the fresh air because there are four other windows that have always let more air in, regardless if there’s was a fifth window up top. I wholeheartedly agree about the M5 Competition tinkering and I’m sure they do too. Great review and a thought I just had: I bet Tesla is selling less carbon credits than ever before. No wonder they are advertising a whole lot on this platform for the first time ever.🤔 18:49

Thank you for your review! I have a 2024 i5 M60, and I am going to share my experiences with you.
There are several features and equipment that we do not get in the U.S. We tried to work with BMW US/NA and they were terrible to work with. Very disappointed.
    Examples:
    1) We do not get M seat belts. This is a piece of standard equipment for all i5 M60s everywhere else but in the U.S. We tried to add it and even pay for it and they said no.
    2) We do not get the Digital Rear 4-Zone Climate Control. Again, everyone else gets it, but us in the U.S. We tried to get it and even pay for it. First, they said yes as a stand-alone option for $650 (crazy) and then they changed their mind and said no.
    3) We do not get the Integral Active Steering. Again, standard on all M60s, but in the U.S. First, they said yes as a stand-alone option for $1,150 (crazy) and then they changed their mind and said no.
    4) We cannot get comfort or multi-contour seats. They call them Luxury Seating Package. So, in the U.S., we get manual headrests, manual leg extenders, and no other seat options.
    5) The panoramic glass roof is a joke. It is a plain glass with no Sky Lounge LED lights. We can’t open it at all. I am glad to see 2024 Mercedes-Benz C, E, and S Classes have them and are fully operational.
    6) The lower door panels and window switches are cheap plastic. Kia has better-quality buttons.
    7) No door sills. Even the Honda Accord has illuminated door sills.
    8) No front seat massaging.
    9) No soft-close doors.
Keep in mind that some of the options mentioned above are available on the 530i, 530i xDrive, 540i xDrive, and 550e xDrive in other countries. More and more, BMW US/NA is cheapening their product. Worse, here in the U.S. we are treated worse than in other countries when it comes to standard features, options, and packages while they keep raising their prices.
After a while looking at the interior, you feel something is missing. There is no door or cover to cover the cup holders. The car looks cheap, unfinished, and not so luxurious.
I am also not fond of multiple-color seats. I have seen BMW do a better job with other models. I am not sure what happened with the 5 Series. I miss Tartufo, Coffee, or just simple black. What is up with grey and copper? It doesn’t look good at all. It appears that we are looking at some cheap car.
As for the range. It is awful. If we have to watch how we drive, then that’s not an “M”60 car. And it takes a very long time to fully charge the vehicle even with the Level II charger.
I am trying to get rid of mine. Not what I expected.
    Love to see your reviews!

I purposely ordered copper and gray. It looks fantastic together. I live in a constantly rainy area. I love the skylounge roof. It lets in light and I don’t want it dark with fake stars. My range is good with the 20” wheel. Getting 3.6mi/kWh in the winter. It should be over 4 by summer.

@@user-gy7cy2it4p I have been driving cars since 1973 and have always been an enthusiast. My previous vehicle was a Jaguar and most parts were nicer than the BMW for instance having carbon fiber instead of piano black. The Meridian sound system was better than the Bowers & Wilkins in the i5. But, complaining about M stitching on the seatbelts is ridiculous. I ordered an i5 M60, but as soon as one came in, I was offered an extended test drive because you aren’t forced to buy what you order. They wanted to make sure I still wanted the car. Didn’t go for the panoramic roof, but I would like it. Why not? I pick a rather basic 40e M pack pro since it had a 10k discount and I didn’t want to go overboard on the price.
For me it is not a sports car. It is a comfortable cruiser with adequate performance. This has to replace a Volvo XC60 T6 recharge hybrid. (In my country hybrids are no longer fiscally interesting, neither are combustion engines).

the Motoman George narrative (that he erroneously keeps repeating): "BMW's late to the EV party..." BMW's advanced all Carbon Fiber M.Y. 2013 i3 and M.Y. 2014 i8 (so now 10 years old): What am i joke to you...?

Riiiiight. The i3 was a toy car, and nobody could afford an i8 ($135,925 starting price in 2014 dollars)...if you could even get one, so there was certainly a heavy dealer mark up. Oh, and it was a hybrid, not an EV.

Hi Greg! Always appreciate your thoughtful comments - even when we disagree. However, in this case, absolutely don't want to drive past a large point you are alluding to here: EV mandates, how they came about and media support. I have been very clear over the years that no one is going to argue about clean air, clean water and trash not piling up in growing cities. However, what many regulators around the world have done is lump everything into the orthodoxy of 'global warming', 'climate change' or as of late, the 'climate emergency'. By changing the tone of the conversation they have been able to push what used to be very fringe ideas as now a one size fits all solution. Say anything to the contrary, you are seen as defaming their religion . . . which in some ways it has become. Instead, what is needed is to deconstruct the problem you are trying to solve and reason up real solutions from there. Yes, we can agree or disagree as what the individual solutions are however the big issue that I experience every day are the other folks I see on these media drives as well as those claiming to be 'journalists' reporting on the beat of automotive industry. VERY few question the EV mandates, their viability, their timelines and if they have any relation to the problems they are trying to solve. In fact, I too, am guilty of not being more vocal about them sooner and posing the questions I do now - which led to the ridiculousness we are facing today. Yes, I live in a place that is probably the most egregious of the 'one size fits all' mindset and can see what happens when you don't even pose the question 'why' or task lawmakers to define the problem and how are their actions a real solution? That is my long winded way of saying 95+% of the folks I see covering this beat are pro EV mandates/timelines and don't acknowledge the current, near term or long term damage they cause.

We for sure are not on the same page.
So many people do not take climate change seriously and some of your content seems to encourage that. Of course it is not free to society to minimize the effects of all the CO2 and other greenhouse gases that we are emitting. If you want to have videos about climate change and the affects of it that is fine also and would be enjoy them also. Auto enthusiasts seem to be more indifferent than most to climate change already. Too slam the mandates without discussing the costs and benefits and only saying they have costs does a disservice to society and your followers. I assume the people that enjoy your content are here for car reviews. Opinions really do not matter when it comes to climate change or any science. I have not seen air and clean water discussed with climate change myself but I can see where people that care about the future of human kind would be more likely to do that. I do not think it behooves you to make the comment on it during reviews. A dedicated video about the mandates would be interesting but of course require a lot of research or a guest that is knowledgeable about the cost benefit analysis. I am not that person for sure and do not know if the mandates are justified or if they are too lax which may be the case in the US since they do not exist here. IMO it is likely too lax in the US. The laws here are like give it a good approach angle and departure angle with a higher ride height and call it a truck and the rules suddenly are lax. It is like the oil companies and the SUV manufacturers lobbyists had a hand in it.
      Best Regards,
      Greg
