certainly not as good as a model s. even the "high performance" i5 m60 is worse at being a performance car than the model s dual motor, with FAR less range, practicality, and reliability to boot, while being more expensive. or you could spend $5k more and get a plaid.
this cars only real market seems to be for old people and bmw stans. i really dont see who else this car is for, its only better in 1 way and even that is counteracted by poor longevity and reliability which bmws are famous for, specifically electrical issues... and this car is literally all electrotonics.
it doesnt even have design going for it against the model s. just quality interior, which im sure will be worth it when everything starts breaking.

U say that but bmw has skyrocketed in sales since their new gen of cars. The new m3 and m4 g8x models have sold TRIPLE the amount per year then their old f8x models. I actually love this design it looks like a big bulky bmw muscle car. The m5 will look insane. It definitly has presence. If someone wants the more gentleman's m5 they will get the previous gen and if they want this one they'll get that. Better then having the same exact design every single year. Then you could rather buy some other random electric sedan or even a crossover. They might sell a few of these, but the appeal of the brand is rapidly descending with each car like this.

Im guessing it’s because most of these cars are built on an ice vehicle frame first and adapted for EV! Not offering AWD on the base model of the electric model is a big mistake. Lots of potential buyers for this car live in areas that get terrible weather and an AWD model that sits between the 40 and the 60 would sell pretty well, especially in NY, Northern CA, MA, Washington State, etc. Almost all of this cars competitors offer AWD without requiring customers to purchase the top performance model too.

Hey Doug - I like your video and I agree with the score that you gave the i5, but there are a few important things that I want you and others to be aware of when buying a 2024 5 - Series (incl. i5 and gasoline models):
    1. iDrive 8/8.5 is *ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE* ; the controls for the self-driving feature (Driver Assistance Professional) are no longer on the steering wheel, they are now buried within the iDrive system! I find myself having to take my eyes off the road to adjust things like the cruise control distance! I've also noticed that some of the features/options/settings in iDrive 8 and 8.5 seems to vary between models (For example - The purple colored ambient lighting is not available in the 3/4 series, but it is available on the X1...??)
    2. That Ambient Lighting bar, which is also called the "Interaction Bar with Ambient Lighting", is ONLY available (as of now) in the i5 and NOT in the gasoline 530i's! The 530i's will still have ambient lighting, but the design is both a joke and an insult and will come in the form of two lines -____-
    2. You did mention that changing the driving modes will change the ambient lighting.... However in other models like the X7, there is a setting that will allow you to change driving modes without changing the ambient lighting color...??
    3. For those of you who like to open/close your sunroof, I would highly suggest you *AVOID* any 5 series that has the *Sky Lounge* option or any 5 series that has the *Executive Package* , which will include the *Sky Lounge* option! Why? The Sky Lounge is basically a panoramic sunroof, but you CANNOT open/close the glass and it does not have LED's - all you can do is either let in a lot of sunlight or no sunlight at all; I find it useless as I would rather have the option to open/close the glass to let air in.
    4. As of now, new i5 owners get 2 years of free charging via Electrify America (owned by Volkswagen btw); the only model that get 3 years of free charging is the i7
Besides the Ambient Lighting (on the 530i's) and that horrible iDrive 8/8.5 system, I think they did a good job on the 5!

It's disappointing that with all the advances in battery tech, 240 miles is the best BMW could come up with, especially at that price. I'm no EV fan but there are several similarly priced EV sedans that destroy its range for the same money or less. You did a smart thing by keeping your 540i. 240 miles is a dealbreaker for me too when I can get double that out of my gas car and refuel in five minutes.

Countach is cool but it's just old italian car that has been produced for over 25 years. It's not even last of a kind so it's not really anything special about it apart from crazy styling which I personally don't get. And it only goes up in value so it's scary driving it in traffic.

The interior is definitely impressive. The fact that is longer than the older 7 is also a great change. Eventually 1 out of every 3 homes will have a EV. This will definitely make the value of the classic 5 series (V8,and V10) go up in value.

I have a 2016 550i 40k miles. I can’t wait for that thing to go up in value, I’m already getting crazy offers for it. I’ve taken care of it like a baby.

Doug! I’ve been waiting for you to make this video for a year! My husband and I were looking for an EV for a year now… searching and searching, test driving and test driving. Well we just started a build for the BMW I5! And low and behold you finally put this video out! I’m shocked. I thought you were gonna skip this car! And then we were iffy on the cape green color, so we went with red! Still happy with red but you reviewed the green so we might’ve picked it 😅

Why on earth would you wait for Doug De Muros opinion on a car? He basically knows nothing about them. There are so many more competent reviewers out there.
Watch the Harrys Garage video about this car. It's a pretty bad car.

4:15 I wouldn’t be surprised if Hans Zimmer composed the revise beep-beep sound. At this rate I also wouldn’t be surprised if they release a BMW music album.

It sounds like the seatbelt warning sound in the i4, except it's being broadcast externally.

I really love that Colour and am curious to see one in Person here on the Autobahn or parked somewhere, because in Person is always different than on Pictures on a Video
And as you said Doug, i'm 100% sure People will still complain because it's a BMW

      Leider 😔

The little problem I see here is: If you wanted to have a comfy cruiser, you'd go for a Merc. Now you can cruise here too but: The 5-Series always was a car which not only in the top model had some sportiness. Even a 520i E34, a 535i E39 or just the very first ones always - maybe were not all fast, but all had better handling than a merc and were more engaging to drive.
