    I remember watching the agony of the victim's brother who just wanted to get in to try to find his brother. They wouldn't let him in, and you could just feel his pain. Very sad. We all would have reacted the same way about someone we loved.

      Most people are overly optimistic about where they locate their homes. People usually feel safe until they realize that they are not. Otherwise you wouldn't see millions of people living around active volcanoes, building their homes on rivers' edges and cliff edges, and choosing to build upon ocean-front property. You were wise to relocate, IMO.

    Pssst.. the sinkhole will continue to open up no matter how much you fill it in, a sinkhole formed by an underwater stream slowly eroded away the sediment and everything above fell into the void. I'm sure you've all seen what happens when you dig a hole in the sand on the beach and you hit the water line. That's exactly what's happening when the water line underneath the loose soil erodes away the supporting sediment. Once it fills in it'll take probably the same amount of time until it erodes it away again

  • @adillpickle6762
    @adillpickle6762 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    The cavity that is allowing the surface materials to funnel though is larger that anticipated. There are instruments that can determine the magnitude of the subsurface void. I don't understand why this hasn't been done to this point. The Karst conditions vary from location to location and the size of the subsurface void would help to determine the remedial action needed to stabilize this funnel type sinkhole. After 40 years of investigating sinkholes I learned to determine what I was dealing with before trying to come up with a remedial action plan.

    Filling it with gravel they need to fill it with some large rocks and boulders the smaller gravel will be washed away as well as the screenings from the stone. There's an underwater water source that's carrying away the sediment. But even if they put larger boulders in there the water current flowing around the boulders will make more settlement disappear and carry it along with the underwater stream. And the big boulders will just sink lower it lower in the hole. It's nature's Way of removing sediment through the process of erosion and attrition

    The earth is recycling itself: we live in northwest Florida and we have some sinkholes in the area, but to my knowledge they're much smaller. I remember from either my freshman chemistry or physics class learning about the movement of atoms (protons, electrons and neutrons]: paraphrasing "in order for something to move there has to be open space aka "a hole", I think they called it "Hole Theory". Florida has had a lot of rain, so the water has to runoff somewhere? Wherever the water drains it impacts something else.

I have called out the governing agencies several times for violating their own laws by introducing chemicals into water sources connected directly to the aquifer. Clean limestone gravel backfill is fine but the majority of the time it’s not what they use. I have been diving in several cave systems under neighborhoods and you can see where sinkhole repair companies have pumped grout/cement into bore holes directly into the aquifer passages. These create blockages which increase water pressure causing more sinkholes to form. Certain unnamed government agencies say this practice is under investigation.

    Its a grave. I'm sure if this family had the money or if gofundme was a thing back in '13 there would at least be something there in memorial. Shame. RIP.
