The problem I have with the GOAT debate is that people try to diminish the accomplishments of others to make the case for their guy. Once you do that, you’ve disqualified yourself from the debate, in my opinion. Whether you have Jordan or LeBron as the GOAT, the only way to make a legitimate argument for your guy is by acknowledging how great the other guy is and THEN make the case why you believe your guy to be even greater. For instance: I could write an entire thesis on the things LeBron has done to be the GOAT and I truly believe that LeBron at his absolute peak is a better NBA player than Jordan at his absolute peak. The only reason that I have Jordan as the GOAT is the fact that, even if he had bad games in high stakes situations, Jordan never choked as badly as LeBron did in 2011. Jordan, from a storybook perspective, has the perfect career. Jordan is the greatest individual player ever, but LeBron at his peak is the most complete player ever and better in a 5-on-5 NBA game.
The thing that I don’t know is why does everyone forget 2014? That’s what eliminated them from the goat conversation the Spurs trounced them there was never a point in that series where you thought Miami had a legitimate chance to win why doesn’t anybody ever call that into account?

When they spoke about aura I think they are speaking from a general star power and impact of a player on the game and stuff around it. That makes sense.
Which is a stupid argument because all those things would apply to someone like AI and I would not put him over the likes of Kareem and or Tim Duncan that don’t have that “aura” of which these niggas speak of
-- Hot Take? I would put Kawhi in the Top 10-15 but...he has zero MVPs -- despite having 2 Finals MVP along w/ 2 DPOYs. Me? My OVERSIMPLIFICATION GOAT list has to have: 2MVPS and at least 1 FMVP. There's only a dozen players that meet this criteria: Steph, Bird, MJ, Lebron, Jokic, Giannis, Duncan, etc -- leaves out guys like Shaq, Kobe, Hakeem, Dirk, KG, KD..
Low put it plainly. The only two criteria that matter is skill and winning. Even though winning is still team related and that's where it get's complex in determining which player had a greater impact toward those W's. i.e. Shaq/Kobe, KD/Curry, Lebron/Wade or Jordan/Pippen, you can probably see which players had the biggest effect and better skill set of those combos. And what really solidifies the debate is when you cross reference players across those combos i.e. is Curry better than Pippen (and extend it to their whole team). Basically how much help (which all players need) did you get to obtain all those wins. If you had 3 or even 4 stars together then you can't put the player who won with all of that above those who won with less or even less superior talent. Forget all the coulda woulda shoulda talk and look at what happened. Still heavily simplified but I'd start there
@luisdominguez1153 under normal circumstances I agree however KD has yet to prove he can win without the warriors while Jokic and Giannis along with Bron and Curry have won in the 2020s era.

@@mareklame8589 Bus driver talk is crazy because people are just quoting Barkley who failed with his own superteam . Wilt only stood out only during the regular season , meanwhile KD scores the 4th most ppg all-time in the playoffs. Also Wilt doesn’t have KD’s longevity. Durant would be retiring this year if he was on Wilt’s pace. He’s still averaging 30 on 50%. And I remember Steph having a healthy team in 2019 outside of Durant but still needed KD to come back from injury to save them from the Toronto Raptors in game 5. I wish they would stop with “real hoopers don’t care about accolades” narrative. All of the greats cared about getting accolades and especially winning. They cared about their legacy
The only things KD has ever done well is scoring and hopping from team to team chasing money and rings. And his scoring isn't even particularly efficient. In every other offensive stat besides raw scoring he's mediocre or poor considering his size and positions he plays on the court, and ditto for his defense. He shoots a lot, he scores a lot, and cashes checks a lot. He is literally Carmelo Anthony + the two rings he chased in Golden State.
Durant's a great player. But he's not that guy. But also a funny thing... if I imagine a Jordan & James on the same team (in the NBA, not Olympics, etc.), they could play together. Obviously they would do great in the Olympics and stuff but a full season is more intense and tough. And I think they'd thrive because they're just that different. AND I think LeBron would be even BETTER than he was if he could deal with playing with a guy so obsessed with winning.
What a prime lebron and MJ duo would be insane. I also think it would benefit LeBron more and would end the Goat debate with LeBron being clearly better.

@antoniocartel8177because lebrons ability to lead and keep his team number one or two in the east was preventing him from getting a decent draft pick. And the teams free agent signing never was good enough. They always signed a sub par good role player but never a number two. All while that was happening for Lebron in Cleveland. The Celtics, lakers and magic was signing good role players number twos and or big 3’s all while the spurs was a machine. Now look at KD was on a team that had three future mvp’s, and great role players, got to the finals and lost, and was never the same, why? Because he wasn’t a good leader, just skilled. Was in a great market, because if KD was in a big market like New York or La, I mean the dude was creating fake accounts to argue for himself 😂 imagine him being in a big market. He teamed with the team that beat him that he had down 3-1. Imagine if bron joined the Celtics or the spurs 😂 what sealed lebrons legacy was the fact that he went back to Cleveland and won a ring. Kd been all over the league trying to find that next ring to seal his career. All while Lebron went to another organization, and won another one, and Steph won another one, and kawhi won another one. That’s why Kd will never be top 10 and or ever be in the goat debate.
“I’m gonna wait until their careers are finished before I compare” as if Jordan wasn’t the consensus goat his 3rd year in the league. Saying you need to wait for lebron to finish his career is all you need to say. They’re admitting he’s not the goat. Nobody was saying “let’s wait for Jordan to finish his career before we say he’s better than Kareem.” No. He was recognized as the greatest player ever after his 3rd season. And then he went on to play 12 more seasons and win 6 finals MVPs
@user-lh8zz6st5r. He didn't lie at all. Most players, coaches, and fans considered Jordan the best they gad ever seen BEFORE he won a title. The MINORITY of critics and the media got fully on board with it after his first chip. Then he won 5 more....
Stats tell us the most, frankly. Postseason stats relative to league averages, that is. This isn't everything, but it's the most valid argumentative framework. Within that, there's room for more subjectivity regarding how you're weighting different stats (wins/success, production as a percentage of team, efficiency, longevity, prime, clutch, etc.) before cross-referencing them. Regular season stuff doesn't matter by virtue of its nature. Awards decided by voters definitely don't matter when they can often be disproven thoroughly with statistics. But this is how you honestly engage with the question: you use the numbers that provide data accounting for what happens in a basketball game during the postseason relative to league average, and you maintain a static interpretive framework. Would be very easy to make an algorithm, if you feel so inclined. Also doesn't need to be a strict body of work basis, you can use stats to somewhat account for active players' trajectories by projection. Of course things happen and projections change so you can't put too much stock in it, but pace still matters in and of itself.
MJ really is the clear pick 6 rings in 15 seasons 10 scoring titles DPOY Two 3peats Always available, 82 games almost every season, huge impact Clear GOAT
I like the point you raise about how people learn how to have these conversations from those in sports media (I wouldn't just lay it at the feet of former players though, as I think people like Skip Bayless, Stephen A. Smith and co haven't helped either. in fact I would argue that cohort are even more to blame because I believe former players learnt from them in order to survive in the sports media landscape) The standard of sports conversation even in everyday life has taken a nosedive in my opinion. Everyone seems to talk about sports as if they're on a podcast trying to boost its engegement by having deliberate bad takes, and insisting on speaking on things they don't have enough information to speak on. It's soooooo weird. I genuinely have conversations with people not just about basketball but soccer as well (I'm from the UK, so calling 'football' that nonsense word hurt me just now, just know that) and I will see sooo many inconsistencies in their arguments I struggle to even understand what they actually believe in, or how they see the game. At which point, I start looking around the room for the cameras or podcast mics they must have hidden in the room. Soo many normal ass people talk about these things now like they're trying to make content Also, I hope KD knows not being the G.O.A.T doesn't mean you can't be widely respected and loved. I agree with you Low as far as these goat convos, and even your main point on the lack of consistency as to why so and so player belongs is the goat or top 10. I do not believe KD has done enough and impacted his team enough to be in that convo. Even though he was one of the greatest players I have ever seen play basketball. I just don’t understand the inconsistencies between KD and a lot of fans of the game. One minute KD wants to just hoop and play the game, and these list do not mean anything, the next minute I wanna be in these goat convos. Also, a lot of fans and media hold and discredit his time tenure with the warriors, even though he was their best player in the finals, yet nobody discredits Lebron’s tenure with the heat and what accomplished with the heat. That time with Heat, the media, and what Lebron has achieved individually has been essential to putting him in the convo.
It’s simple to me. There’s people that base their GOAT on different criteria which is fine and understandable! However, People have a lot of criteria (whether it’s championships, accolades, scoring, impact, etc) I think the average of all those criteria combined will lead to Lebron.
Awards and accolades matter 100%. You can't be the best player in the world and have never won MVP/Titles/etc. It's fucking stupid to bring up a goat debate and not bring up accolades.
KD has been to more "Big Three" teams, then any other Superstar within my lifetime, that being said... The only "Big Three" that he won with, was the one that was already built, before he got there..... Lebron got a chip, with BOTH of his "Big Three" teams. Kobe got 3 with Shaq, and 2 with Pau Gasol. AND OF COURSE MJ got TWO 3 peats with Pippen (and Rodman/good players). My point is this! One of these players just AIN'T like the others...
taking into account that the league changes so much each decade and most players in this debate never played in the same periods. a GOAT debate is honestly silly in retrospect. it’s an endless debate that people keep MJ in the throne spot by default to not go insane. rules also change from era to era, competition, and the overall league. a GOAT debate is an endless question like what is the meaning of life 💀 just say your favorite player and compare players who played against eachother 🤷🏽♂️

@@thelaw2348cuz Chris Bosh and wade avg 14 & 15 and the role players like Allen were terrible all series while lebron was up 30 a game. Only criticism was young kawhi give him problem defense other that there is much to say bad about him that series.

KD is more of a BOAT than a GOAT. He’s undeniably one of the BEST players to ever play, but he’s nowhere near the greatest.
Still heavily simplified but I'd start there
Personally i feel like Jokic and Giannis careers are better than KD
Maybe Jokic but not Giannis.

@footonthelineNBA I just think it’s all subjective. Most NBA players care about rings but others care about skill and what it lead too or even how it looked like. Consistency matters though because for every argument you can make for one, 5 others make the same argument. I have Kobe as the greatest because I just think his skill set is unlike any other. 06 Kobe is closest thing
You can get to a complete ball player, but that’s just my pov and I can make the same argument for 92-93 Jordan and 2012-13 lebron. It’s all about consistency
How about 2002-03 Tim Duncan and 1999-00 (or 1994-95) Shaq?
Exactly what I’m talking about. Completely Forgot about those two as well. That’s the whole point. One argument for one can be made for at least 3-5 others on the list
And I wouldn’t necessarily say complete b-ball players for those guys but it’s up there as their best ever seasons

Nobody was saying “let’s wait for Jordan to finish his career before we say he’s better than Kareem.” No. He was recognized as the greatest player ever after his 3rd season. And then he went on to play 12 more seasons and win 6 finals MVPs
You just lied 😂 and very confidently they were cooking Jordan for having no rings and just looking to be a scorer
It’s only LeBron and Jordan in the debate. No matter how much lebron haters want to hate, it’s only them 2.

Im sticking to there's more than One or two Goat and whatever order you have
If lebron came 30 years later he would unanimously be the goat. But people ain’t ready to give Jordan up fr
A debate doesn’t just have to be 2 people think about the presidential debates
KD has the argument for greatest villain of all time.
Kd is that good. If the brooklyn experiment works and kd / kyrie wins 2 -3 rings he’d be in my goat conversation but it didn’t the opposite happened
If KD was that good, he would’ve got it done with Russ…
Low was not letting that aura comment slide 🤣🤣🤣
You’re crazy if you think kd ain’t in the goat convo but hey your opinion is for you
Awards and accolades matter 100%.
Kobe was never in the debate y’all only put him there because he died I wasn’t hearing anything of that goat talk
How can KD call himself the 2nd best in everything for this era, blame others for that, and then expect to be considered in the GOAT convo?
taking into account that the league changes so much each decade and most players in this debate never played in the same periods. a GOAT debate is honestly silly in retrospect. it’s an endless debate that people keep MJ in the throne spot by default to not go insane. rules also change from era to era, competition, and the overall league. a GOAT debate is an endless question like what is the meaning of life 💀 just say your favorite player and compare players who played against eachother 🤷🏽♂️
I still don’t understand why FlightReacts isn’t mentioned. Cameras on or not, he should be included.
Low spittin’ 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
Low eating 🥜
nah so even if you remove MJ & Kobe. You still have kareem, magic, bird, shaq, duncan, curry, shit the rest of the top 10 all time. Kd AINT CLOSE
