The fact he went further with this on Instagram is hilarious.
Has he added new skill to his game? Yes. His court vision has gotten better and he's become a better passer. The way he plays defense, shuffles his feet, and disects plays has gotten better. He has gotten better as a dribbler - Giannis wasn't able to run point coming into he league. He rebuilt his shot form. He's also expanded his post game.
Has his 3% gotten better? Not yet. You have a point.
Mid range? Yes. He shot 42% last year - ABOVE LEAGUE AVERSGE. Has his FT's gotten better? Yes, 72% last year when he was in the 60's before. Has his back to be basket play gotten better?
Yes. He added the drop step. He added the base line fade away. He added the hook shot, to go with his insanely elite quick spin.
The only "flaw" in his game is he shoots 30% from 3. That's it.
That's the flaw. He's improved everywhere else.
And that 30% from 3? That's better than 4 of Arenas seasons shooting 3.

Saying Giannis doesn't improve is an insult! And I mean it... no super star I've seen has been willing to incorporate so much more facets to their game than Giannis has. He has a tireless work ethic and he's always improving. His minutes is for strategic purpose for the Bucks not for him if anything there are times Giannis is on fire and they take him out which I disagree with but in that window he still manages to put up equal or greater numbers than anybody in the league with less time. You don't want this monster playing more minutes.

    • @RecapRico
      @RecapRico 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

It's all relative and depends what aspect of ball he's referring to. I'll extend an Olive Branch. Cp3 and Lebron are the 2 of the best passers we've seen since the 2000s. Cp3 just learned how to play off ball and Lebron still hasn't. In today's NBA those skills are much more valuable than anything Giannis brings to the table individually and it's no wonder that as soon as Giannis starts setting screens and rolling to the basket OFF BALL he wins a chip and the Wall defense no longer works. I disagree with Gil bc he's clearly gotten better at that though so to say "no improvement" is weird.

Giving Giannis his props would, in a roundabout way, invalidate these guys' entire careers lol. He came from literally nothing from the other side of the world, was never a touted prospect and wasn't even a prodigy from day 1 like Luka.
He's literally grown leaps and bounds every season to the point that in 8 years, at age 27, he's not only a top 75 player but he belongs in the top half of that list and he's got the better part of a decade to keep climbing that list, while bums like Arenas had entire careers with priveleges that an 18yo Giannis would'nt even have dreamt of but they never even made the list.
Truly great players like Shaq and Chuck love Giannis because they see the guy's hard work and hunger, while they're secure about themselves, while almost-greats and has beens hate on him at every chance they get because they see in Giannis everything that they never were.

I like how his reasoning really shows that he clearly doesn't understand. The reason why Giannis only has to play 32 minutes a game is obviously the fact that Coach Bud has him on a minutes restriction. Also Giannis plays harder than about 95% of the league in his 32 minutes and plays both sides of the court at the highest level possible which is something you can't say for a majority of the league (or Gilbert himself). Its not like Giannis is any different than a large portion of todays stars who load manage to lower the risk of injury. His team is still able to win games with just those 32 minutes so who cares. Also he only plays so few minutes in the regular season which in all honesty doesn't matter all that much.

Gilbert would not know what's it like to be both the best offensive player the being the defensive anchor of the team for at least 30+ minutes. He don't know the burdens guys like Giannis, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Kawhi, and Lebron, not to mention he's a big man not some small guard. That Iverson clip hit home. Iverson was literally telling them whats what and they were trying to change his words. Its something a lot of media guys/ hosts do. Sometimes they say its a way to give the person they're interviewing an opportunity to walk back what they said. But if the guy gives you a plain answer, didn't stutter or seem unsure. Take it as his answer.
Redick did the same thing when Perkins admitted that back in 08-09 he wanted LeBron to have an injury to miss the final game of their series. Perkins said he literally wished that it would be an injury to keep out for that 1 game. They tried to flip it or look at him like its a terrible thing to say when the guy was just confessing how he felt in that moment going up against LeBron.

If Giannis had Kris this past run, I believe they would have been in the Finals against Steph's Warriors. I don't think Boston beats Milwaukee when Giannis has a legitimate secondary scoring threat, as Boston is a great defensive team, but they couldn't handle him at all. With Kris holding it down and providing a legit secondary threat, with them double and triple teaming him all the time, Milwaukee will always come out on top. That was the only thing missing this year, and Giannis would have proved, again, that he's the most dominant player in basketball.
Gil's got that Merica-only hate for Giannis, everyone knows that. There's a lot of former and current players that will NEVER say a player that wasn't born in America is the best there is. With Giannis, they like to go hardcore, all the time. Doesn't matter what he does, they'll never say he's better than a Merica player. That's how much they benefit from pick n rolls because they have spot up shooters on Pat and Greyson.. that play frees up the shooters or ensures a 1 vs 1 on the paint.. either gang up on the big man and free the shooters or guard the shooters and let the big man steamroll.. without pick n rolls, the Bucks offense will get hindered

Giannis is one of my favorite players but I agree with Gilbert Arenas's take. Giannis should be able to score without using pure physicality by now. His post game isnt there yet, floaters, hooks, back to the basket just aint there. I personally don't think he needs to shoot 3's at all. His Mid-game is what he should be working on, scoring easier would make him last more minutes is what Gilbert is saying. One point that Gilbert overlooked though is that Giannis plays hard on defense unlike most NBA players.

Don’t know, it’s like Low said, if players don’t check certain boxes then they aren’t skilled
But him being able to out physical everyone at the rim is still a skill, cause you’re forgetting people in the NBA are also not bums(physically)
So he’s not out of doing it to regular people
He is doing it to NBA players who train and work on their body too
Giannis might not be an Embiid in the post or something but he has an arsenal of post shots and finishing around the rim and even a developing turnaround jumper in the paint
He has improved his passing, handling and knowing his work ethic is still improving
He might never be a solid 3 point shooter or never have flashy post moves doesn’t diminish from his greatness
I mean Shaq never gave people Hakeem level post moves
He used physicality combined with some moves, a drop step, mastering the hook shot and boom - one of the most unstoppable players to play the sport
So y’all need to kill this narrative please….

      - Giannis may not have the repertoire of Hakeem or Kobe. BUT he's a great a player despite the lack of certain "skills" like a hesi-step-back-3.
Most of the NBA can't really stop him from scoring. A bucket is a bucket so...does that mean the rest of the league is inadequate? Hardly. Giannis may not be the most skilled player but whatever he's doing, he's crushing it. The whole 38mpg by Gil was not a wise take (considering the greatest PF in Tim Duncan by age 28 started avg 33.4mpg).

  • @Roman__King

People forget Giannis came in as shooter at the 3 for the Bucks. With Giannis' frame and his struggles at shooting from the start, he had to find other ways to be effective so he became a slashing big man with a lean frame who's impossible to stop when his size and momentum is on his side. He trained and transformed his skill set so much so he has become a better shooter and has better offensive awareness to the point he has become a playmaker for his team. I think Gilbert should do himself a favor, watch some tapes of Giannis and bare witness of how the Greek Freak lived up to his moniker.

    Two things LOW
1.) I love AI I grew up watching him he’s one of my favorite players ever, but I would never argue that he practiced hard. Older generations do just make excuses for their players to romanticize how good they were.
2.) I think peak Giannis is up there with all time greats. Do I think he could overtake Bron all time, as interesting as that would be to see, no I don’t. I do think he has that potential and mindset that if he does I wouldn’t be like Damn where did that come from. To say Iverson didn’t practice hard is such a false claim that random people run with because of one interview. He was dealing with a death in his circle that same day which is why he didn’t go to practice. Iverson used to be bruised so badly from games and practice that when he took his shirt off his teammates were concerned for him. He played through all kinds if injuries and against the refs

Assists don’t count unless the assisted player makes the shot. Iverson was an undersized guard and one of the best offensive AND defensive players in the league. He’s averaged over 30 multiple times in the NBA. He had the worst team to ever make an NBA finals period. He went through the east with literally just him. The second highest scorer on the team was a 15-16ppg scorer. What the hell else could he have done? Iverson has to be the most misunderstood and underrated player to play in the NBA.

The minutes thing confuses a lot of people . It became a thing when he was subbed out of the game after 4 minutes of the 1st quarter , in the finals . Giannis was hyperventilating and cramping all finals and pretty much since the game 7 of the brooklyn series . The reason behind this is not conditioning , it's anxiety and it's very real . He has anxiety seizures during games , if you know anything about this condition in pro athletes you can see recognize all the signs just by watching Giannis . I think also Shannon sharpe told that in his podcast . In this playoffs he was good . He probably works with a sports psychiatrist.

I love when Gilbert talks about this stuff. He literally had two seasons where he played 40 minutes. Arenas is still mad because he thought he should have been better and it's his coaches fault.
And the reason they aren't playing as many minutes is so they can in the playoffs. That's the way it used to always be. Giannis gets by on pure physicality .. thats what folks mean.. the Bucks whole offensive system is setup around getting Giannis a chance to score and dominate.. thats why just putting up a simple wall against him was/is so effective.. well since jrue got there the wall is not gonna work bcuz they have another option who can get to the bucket off the dribble.. Like .. lets not sugar coat things.. Giannis is a hyper-ultra Athletic dude.. ive watch .. Giannis literally take 4 long strides .. to get from one end of the court to the other... just 4 strides.. who else could do something like that.. hahaha... it is what it is .. Giannis has no true basketball skill set .. like back to the basic.. float game.. jumpshot .. foot work off the dribble.. etc .. etc. and cant shoot free throws..
